This is one of the best TV series ever made, Welcome to the best Televised WW2 Rollercoaster ride. The Acting is superb by a cast that was mostly unknown with a large majority of them being British actors playing Americans for whom this was their breakout roles such as Damien Lewis as Winters, Marc Warren as Blithe, Dexter Fletcher as Sgt. Martin, Ross McColl as Liebgott, Shane Taylor as Doc Roe,Michael Fassbender as Sgt. Christenson,Tom Hardy as Janovec and many more

If you're going all the way with this...be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters. The first episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead for these men. This was when their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup." I love the power move Winters makes by literally grabbing the pen out of Sobel's hand while he was abusing his...it's brilliant, and a true story. Hard to call this a TV show honestly, it's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE! ♠

Great Review, and welcome to the best mini series ever made! What makes it great is what you talked about at the end the attention to detail and the committment they had to gettng the history right. All the actors playing the parts were given dossiers on the men they were portraying, based on research, records, and stories from survinging members of the company. Some of the real men were still alive when the show was being filmed and those actors where encouraged to reach and and speak with the men directly, to get first hand sense of him and the things that happened. That contributed to the actors desire to make the show as good as possible, and as you watch the show you can see that committment come through.

This came across my feed and since I'm a HUGE fan of this series and I LOVE to watch people REACT to it for the FIRST time I clicked!! A little HARD to believe that someone like yourself HASN'T seen the series already!!😮😮 Anyway this is based on a true events taken from the memoirs of the men that you see being interviewed at the beginning of each episode!! Is focus is mainly on the European theater of operation but another series that came along 10 years later called the Pacific focuses on that theater!!! Then you have a third edition which is recently been released and is still streaming called Masters of the Air!! Masters focuses on the 8th Army Air Force, specifically the 100th bomber group, and their missions bombing occupied Europe from bases in England in 1943, 44, and 45!!!❤ Their nickname was the BLOODY 100th because of the casualties that they sustained!! All three series are top-notch and extremely educational.

I'm so bad when it comes to seeing stuff, especially if it wasn't on regular (hell even if it was) tv. This being an HBO show (Along with True Detective which I plan on getting to as well) I never had HBO until we got their streaming service and even with that it's only been used for DC animated movies and stuff like Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and some other animes that Netflix didn't have. There's a ton of stuff that due to either doing youtube and the time it requires or when I was working 40+ hours a week I never got around to, and there's a lot of movies thanks to being raised in an independent fundamental baptist church that I've never seen that I will be getting around to going forward on this channel. I mean, I've watched the first 2 episodes of breaking bad years ago when it first hit Netflix but that's all I've seen of it. There's shows like Power, Better Call Saul and others that I've never gotten around to that I'll be hitting in the near future on here along with a lot of anime that others either grew up on or are popular right now that I want to personally watch. A lot of stuff I want to watch and discover.

In the early 1900’s flight was invented. The first flying machines were made out of wood. That’s about 10 years before WWI. By the end of WWII, man dropped nuclear bombs out of an airplane across the world. The advancement in technology during that time was both spectacular and horrifying.

This was a brilliant series, I loved it. I also read the book that the series is based on and a lot of things are explained in greater detail. The men do give Sobel credit for the training he gave them at Camp Toccoa, he did indeed train them to be the best soldiers in the regiment but he did so only to make himself look good. Sobel was very jealous of Winters because of the amount of respect the men had for him and he convinced himself that Winters was trying to get command of Easy Company but Winters had no desire to command until after the court martial. Winters was aware that the sergeants intended to resign their ranks and tried to convince them not to go ahead with it, but as we saw in the show they did. It's a book I highly recommend.

I read Ambrose's book, Winters book and several others by the men in Easy, Sobel did get credit for the training but as Winters said he was mean, there was something in his character that led him to go too far and beyond that of enforcing discipline, he was also as shown an awful field commander.

It's a great accounting of events, from men that were there. Stunning cast. * There's a definite core of people that really despise Friends (I'm one), but Schwimmer's really good in this and I've seen him good in a couple other roles too. You can easily see his role training Easy Company as part of them being as good a unit as they were, even if he was a dick. You've also got Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender in very early screen time for them. It's a stunning series and a real benchmark in serialised drama. It's supposed to be VERY historically accurate, Winters was there after all and I believe the crew worked incredibly hard to get things correct. I think it's worth everyone watching at least once. Historically, an immense sacrifice.

Lost on most people is Dale Dye playing Robert Sink. Let me rephrase that... 57 year old Dale Dye playing 38 year old Robert Sink. Capt. Dye does a great job in the role, but it always gives me a good chuckle, knowing the history of these guys (and still learning). It's funny you mention the troop ships being in danger of U-boats. There's a guy in Easy company named Roy Cobb. You'll see a little more of him in some of the later episodes. Cobb was actually at least ten years older than everyone else in Easy, having served in the army since 1934. He was with the 1st Armored Division in Africa in 1942 during Operation Torch. I bring up Cobb because while on the way back to the states after Operation Torch, the troop ship he was in was torpedoed and sunk. He survived, and signed up with the airborne when they were formed. He was already a professional soldier with combat experience when he started the training at Toccoa along with the rest of Easy. It's always great when someone new gets to experience this series for the first time. Just keep in mind that, while a true story - this series, throughout all of the episodes presents the story with various degrees of accuracy & inaccuracy simultaneously to help tell the story in a way that the viewer can follow better. When Easy left England for D-day, there were 139 guys making up the company, and the company would shrink with casualties, and then beef back up with replacements throughout the war, so the neighborhood of "120-ish" is pretty much how many guys were in the company at any given time. Because of this, it would be logistically impossible to depict the experiences of every single guy in a ten episode series. So a lot of stories that happened to Easy company guys we're never introduced to were attributed to a small core of characters that we're going to be following. Looking forward to your enjoying this series!

Super insightful reaction, absolutely loved it! In the mutiny scene, Harris and Ranney were the two getting demoted because they were the senior NCOs at the time and Sink suspected they were the ringleaders of the mutiny. Ranney was sent to another company but managed to rejoin Easy not long after.

All these men have been through basic training. Some are already serving in the army. They have volunteered for airborne and can quit or be washed out at any time up to deployment and return to the regular army. Out of 5400 volunteers, they need 1800. It's Sobel's job to eliminate 2/3 of these men and only keep the best.

In Europe US Army forces did not engage in combat until Nov 1942, Operation Torch, the Invasion of North Africa. Also Sobel's most damning trait IMHO was that he could not listen, he knew all. If Winters or anyone junior to him tried to offer advice he wouldn't/couldn't listen to it, to see if the idea was worth taking, he immediately rejected it and anyone who would dare advise. A good officer listens to all of his men, takes the info on board and synthesizes the best plan from ALL the available info.

The follow-up series The Pacific is also very good, although it lacks the continuity that Band of Brothers has. Where BoB follows a single company from bootcamp to VJ-Day, The Pacific jumps around a lot, depicting the stories of different men, in different locations, at different stages of the war. So it does feel a bit disjointed, but it's still a must watch once you've finished Band of Brothers.

Everybody laugh their asses off when Horton reassign Sobel to another school - and I get the sentiment of vengeance, I hated Sobel's guts as well - but I think it was actually pretty graceful how he resolved this situation. Everyone had their part in this endeavour, and Sobel was good to train recruits, but not to lead soldiers on the field.

Cracking series which has just finished it's umpteenth UK airing a couple of days ago. Doesn't seem that long to me since it was released...but it's only 18 months shy of 25 years!

Sorry the Hitler performance was in the equally good "Downfall" which was another German made film how the two films merged into one is perhaps because I have watched them both recently and at 75 I have a touch of Biden which is common in us old folk.

Dude, you did not declare war on Germany - Germany declared war on YOU (which was nice of them, considering Japan hadn't). EDIT - great reactions, you've spotted a few things here other reactors don't - subscribed, will follow your journey on this roller-coaster ride :)

My dude.. you've used the "take me to my profile" link for facebook in your about, so anyone clicking that gets sent to their own profile. That being said, looking forward to your reaction to this show. This is the one WWII show I think everyone should have to watch at school.. or something like that

I watched the series for the first time about a month ago, I was away at sea when it came out. Bloody fantastic. Now watching Masters of the Air, which is the Bomber Command one.

As I always say..better late than never! It's always awesome to watch people experience this masterpiece of a series for the first time. I've seen it so many times but it doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, I still get the same feelings and emotions. Can't wait to see you react to the rest.

Episode 9 WILL affect you deeply. This whole series is one of my favourites. At no time does it glorify war or combat. But it does hold up courage and commitment.

You should do some research on the Burma campaign. Band of brothers is a fantastic series though. From what i heard, the TV series painted Captain Sobel in a very bad way because it made a better story. Opinion amongst the men who served under him was split into two camps because he would never order his men to do anything that he wouldn't do himself only better and there might have been a bit of antisemitism as he was jewish and the true horror of the holocaust and the camps were as yet unknown. You might want to read his Wikipedia entry and make a comment about it.
