    @@CasualNerdReactions For the love of God, please don't. The AvP flicks are cheap, incredibly dumb and badly written, and they actively take away from your enjoyment of the Alien and Predator franchises IMO. Predator 2, although not very popular (which I'll never understand, it's a fun ride, a worthy successor, and it keeps true to the tone of the original) is very watchable, and after that one you need to stop. Nothing good awaits.

    I think the Predator taking off his mask (and for the most part disarming himself) works because it's him showing respect to Arnold's character for being the most dangerous game he's come across. In that moment he's challenging him to a man vs alien one on one combat. Thats just my thinking though if it doesn't work for you then it doesn't work. Loved the reaction either way!

    Removing the mask is also another way to even the fight. The fact that the predator's blood glows when exposed to air indicates that its homeworld has no oxygen in its atmosphere, at least not in considerable amounts. And this is confirmed in the second movie when the city hunter uses a respirator.

    The Predator showing his face is like honoring Dutch's courage. To show him who he's up against. I love this scene. Also, it's one of my favourite "faces" of all alien antagonists. Great movie!

  • @iKvetch558
    @iKvetch5582 жыл бұрын

    20:58 If you look carefully, the Predators shot hits Dutch's rifle, which is why the shot did not blow his arm off. It is not that the Predator's weapon is getting less effective, it is just that this one time he got unlucky with where his shot actually hit. Take note that he was shooting basically the same spot as he did when he blew off Dillon's arm, he just hit Dutch's rifle and that absorbed enough of the energy of the shot that Dutch kept his arm. So the rifle acting as armor was the plot device. 🖖💯✌

    My number 1 favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie of all time! Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit which looked like a giant lizard insect hybrid. He even wanted to kickbox Arnold but the producers refused. Stan Winston Studios designed the PREDATOR suit for the film Kevin Peter Hall, 1955-1991, was cast as the titular alien, being 7'2" he was an intimidating opponent for Arnold's character, Dutch. Sonny Landham, 1941-2017,whom plays Billy in the film hired a bodyguard to protect people from him as he was prone to violent outbursts. Half the cast and crew suffered diarrhea and food poisoning except for Arnold and Director McTiernan, whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches. Landham said in an interview, "we weren't making a movie, we were making a survival story." It was 110 degrees in the shade ,while it was 40 degrees at night.

    20:30 We already know Billy views this creature as certain death, so by running they are only delaying the inevitable. Billy chose to stop running from death and face it head on. You could also say he's facing his fears. Fun Fact: That actor had to have a bodyguard during filming, to protect others from him. Sonny Landham didn't have a reputation as a "calm person" lol

    One possible explanation for the mud being so effective is that it wasn't so much heat it was seeing. Infrared is more what the predator was seeing WITHOUT his gear. Everything in the forest was 80 to 100 degrees, except at night. I think if you look at his visor as a scanner or a tricorder, the scanner was fooled by the outer shell of mud, and didn't target it as prey. So basically, it was too smart for mud. In the very pathetic sequel, which sets up Alien vs Predator, we see how it can set its visor to scan different wavelengths. If this one had tried, it could definitely have seen Arnold covered by mud. If you look back, Arnold does show up in the scan when he's first tensed up. He was just the wrong color. Not highlighted.

    Those hunters ... the entire culture of this alien race revolves around hunting. To achieve honorable victories against worthy opponents. The hunters travel through the universe to compete against the most dangerous indigenous life forms on different planets and to make trophies from their remains that testify to their heroic deeds. That is why a hunter does not kill someone who is considered unworthy because - for example - he has no weapon or is physically weak and inferior. The hunter follows his prey, he follows the heat signature of the body and remains undetected - thanks to an optical camouflage field. If he thinks the time is right, he strikes. Arnold put up the most resistance to him and proved himself to be a worthy opponent in the course of their duel, which is why the hunter discards all his weapons at the end and faces his prey in an unarmed fight.

    This is in a long line of uber manly/masculine films from the 80's, and is the perfect follow-up to Arnold's 1985 action film Commando. This is a massive franchise that consists of movies, comics, graphic novels and videogames. The latest entries are the online multiplayer Predator Hunting Grounds and the upcoming prequel Prey. The Predator, or Yautja species are interstellar, technologically advanced tribal warriors and trophy hunters. They only hunt species that can present a worthy challenge and have a strict code of honor, which is why the titular creature didn't attack the woman and took off its mask when facing Dutch, which was a sign of respect. The director of this, John Mctiernan, also directed Die Hard, which I highly recommend watching

    @@CasualNerdReactions I can think of a few options. 1) Your crashed/parked. 2) That's what actually exploded at the end. Since Arnold went to the predators territory it may have been close to the ship. 3) It's parked elsewhere and he is but 1 of several Predators on Earth safari at this time. Maybe others are in Africa or hunting Yeti or Bigfoot. Or chillin' down in Antarctica. 4) He was just dropped off and the ship will return later. Kinda like 3, but just no longer on Earth at all. But like Jim said - not many people seem to ask that question.

Arnie is known during this era for the cheesy one-liners. It just tips the movie over the edge into awesome. I am glad you had fun with it. Predators are hunters, yes, as others have said. Predators or Yautja as their called in the comics and novels are a race of aliens that go around the galaxy to hunt prey and prove themselves and take trophies mainly the Skulls Predators live by a strict code of honor they don't hunt and kill unarmed, children, pregnant women and sick people like people with cancer. The average height of a predator is 7 to 8 feet tall sometimes bigger both male and female. Thier much more physically stronger than a human and dispute their size they are quite agile.

    Obviously you're not a horror fan since any one who is would say the reveal of the Predator is definitely what you want to see! If not for the amazing creative work by the late, great Stan Winston (who did the first 2 Terminators w/Arnie and ALIENS among dozens of others). In fact you could even say the pitch for the film is RAMBO Vs. ALIEN. But you got the gist of it and as usual have a good reaction. Also for me its top-notch bonus to have someone like John McTiernan fresh off DIE HARD and at the top of his game at the helm.

    The group blazing away into the jungle on full automatic - aka 'Full Rock and Roll' - with no visible target doesn't look at all odd to those of us who grew up watching news coverage of the war in a certain other jungle. If one man on a patrol saw something and started shooting, well if it was a mistake you wasted some ammo you were not going to have to pay for anyway by joining in,. If it was an ambush you had nearly walked into you just saved your platoon. See also "The Mad Minute".
