The story behind this as told by Paul McCartney: he was asleep in bed one night during a hard time in his life. He awoke in the early hours to see his deceased Mother, Mary, standing at the foot of his bed, and she said to him very simply, 'Let It Be'. He wrote the song the following day.

There's a reason Paul McCartney is in the Guinness Book of World Records! And to think that when The Beatles first started, neither he nor John Lennon played piano in any of their songs. They both became very accomplished in it. So The Beatles won an Oscar for this song and it was The Beatles final record release b4 their breakup! I was 20 back in 1970 when LET IT BE was released! I remember buying the single GET BACK (off of that album) w/DON'T LET ME DOWN on the B side. At the time, had no idea that'd be the last single I'd ever buy from the group. It was a sad & shocking day when we found out The Beatles were no more! To this day, I still listen to the music of that era, from all the artists that made the '60's so memorable! Good job on ur reaction!

Paul’s mother died of breast cancer the day I was born. His wife Linda was treated at Sloan-Kettering hospital in NYC in a final attempt to save her life. She died of breast cancer in the late 90s. My only sister, Lynda, was also at Sloan. She lost her battle with breast cancer almost 20 years ago on 12/31/2000. We were Beatles fans from the first time we saw them on tv in February of ‘64; and our mother took us to our first concert, The Beatles, in August of ‘66. This song, more than any other, reminds me of Paul’s losses and my own, and everyone else who’ve lost loved ones. Beautiful and bittersweet. Thank you for reacting to it.

Hey Jude 👍🤪✔ From memory I believe there are over 300 beatles songs & I can't think of one of them that is in any way obscure, or little known. You give them much respect, and it is only right that you do so. They were such an uplifting backdrop to our lives. When I was 4 my sister was 13 and would bring home their latest hit and in no time their was a mad scene of sunbathing teenagers listening to her portable record-player which only played the single 45rpm vinyls. Six or so years later we had a drive-in theatre as the reception for her wedding & the movie "Help" was playing on a loop. What music does to people, for people, as I observed as the youngest was simply magical. When John Lennon was killed I first knew grief and these songs consoled me but then my incredible brother passed away so closely after and my memories were of him consoling me over Lennon's passing. It felt as though my brother was preparing for me to be okay with what was to come. Such highs and lows right there. A mere month before his accident my brother bought me a music book of ALL the Beatles songs (300+?) and we both sat on the edge of his bed as I strummed the chords & we recorded us both singing over half of them. Such a treasured memory - the Beatles were there for births and deaths, happy and sad & for the inbetween they brought so much excitement. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE! And perhaps a yellow submarine, lol thank you for that ( I'm not sure your brother quite heard what you were saying - that you are grateful for HIM! Sometimes you just have to spell it out, cos u never know. You can lead a horse to headphones but you can't make it listen, lol Just for you two "Two Of Us" ❤❤

Great second Beatles selection. From an Old Beatle Freak, may I suggest; Early Beatles, "When I Get Home", "No Reply", "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" & "Ticket To Ride. Mid-Beatles; "Norwegian Wood", "Nowhere Man", "Taxman" & "Rain". Late Beatles; "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me and My Monkey", "Yer Blues", "Come Together", "Revolution 1", "I Want You", "Dig A Pony" & "Get Back". Enjoy your search.

Very perceptive comments. For many of us who love music and so many bands and musicians, The Beatles will always be in their own category. What they created in six years will never be matched. And as young people who were there when they exploded on the scene, we could not have foreseen where they would get to, but somehow we knew they weren’t of this world and were so far ahead of everyone else.

I grew up in a strict house hold, we barely listened to music, I got married in 1979, my husband had all of the Beatles albums, I listened to them all over and over until I knew every word to every song. I must say "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" made me laugh so hard. I know it's kind of dark, but I'd never heard anything like it, I would like to see you guys react to it.

I've heard this song perhaps…several thousand times since my childhood. I think no other song title has more profound meaning than this song. Many people say "Let It Be" means "Leave it to the flow", but it is wrong, because Paul wrote this song in 1968, when The Beatles were in danger of breakup. He wanted to say "Let's not break up. Let this band BE". He also sang this song in "LIVE AID" in 1985, because he wanted to LET IT (children in Africa) BE. Truly, Mother Mary whispered words of wisdom to her son.

greetings from Argentina again (if my English is weak it is because I use Google Translate) I have seen that you have reaction of several artist And you just added The Beatles all of this is an excellent example of your musical openness That's why I want to propose that you include the Swedish pop group ABBA, a true icon and world leader of the 70s, in the post-Beatles decade ABBA was formed by two couples and they recorded between 1972/82: Anni Frid Lyngstad (mezzo soprano vocalist, 1945) Benny Andersson (keyboardist singer-songwriter, 1946) Björn Ulvaeus (guitarist singer-songwriter, 1945) Agnetha Fälkstog (soprano vocalist, 1950) (the couples divorced in 1979 and 1981 and the group could not continue together but recently they reunited in the studio and after more than 35 years they recorded about five songs that will be released post pandemic to celebrate 50 years of their first single: "People need love") In their career they have an extensive series of world hits, they led rankings in Europe Australia New Zeland South Africa and Latin America (Only in the U.S. they were less successful, because they did not settle there as the North American market requested, although they did make presentations on TV and a tour in 1979) They especially led in England of so many and such good groups and English singers, with nine # 1 singles and albums and a series of 18 consecutive Top 10 singles (only surpassed by THE BEATLES) ABBA currently has their album GOLD (compilation of singles released 10 years after their separation) is the second best-selling in history (only surpassed by QUEEN Greatest Hits) and the current longest on the charts with 970 weeks (and continues to add ...) Extraordinary marks for a non-British, non-American music band The validity of his music was maintained and perpetuated through generations by the success of some Australian films with his songs, the musical "Mamma mia" produced by composers Björn and Benny (20 years on the bill) and the films "Mamma mia" 1 and 2 (and a third soon) with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnann as protagonists singing their songs they have a thematic museum in Stockholm 6 years ago, tribute bands etc. (the list is extensive to try to mark the influence of ABBA's music)

That little high-pitched tone Paul uses at the end of each stanza is something he picked up from his idol Little Richard. John Lennon's idol was Elvis Presley. George's was Carl Perkins.
