Her scream, snuffling, crying, is very distinctive. I didn't notice it my first watch of IOTBS, but it was clearer on subsequent watches. She can induce a low, crawling panic just by using her voice.

@@michelegraham1181 Veronica was not attacked by real birds. The studio would not try that with a minor. The movie's lead character was played by Tippi Hedren-- an actress who was mistreated by Hitchcock, in more ways than one. Hedren had live birds hurled at her during the attic sequence where Melanie Daniels foolishly goes upstairs alone with a flashlight.

This scene - 8:22 - was brilliant, because it was a homage to the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers from 1956. That actual actor (Kevin McCarthy), who was freaking out and banging on their car windshield, was the man from the original movie who figured out everything that was going on, and that movie (if I remember correctly) ended with him running the streets screaming and warning anyone who was still human that everyone else were no longer human.

I came here to comment that. His cameo in the middle of this movie trecreating that secene towards the end of the original was brilliant, and told you then and there tyhis movie wasn't going to just be a copy (so to speak).

This is why I would like to see this done like a mini-series. To see the changes through 2 - 3 episodes. Slowly 1 city is taken but the pods are slowly and quietly moved outward, expanding. Building the tension and dread.

In the movie, the switch from the invaders having to operate covertly to the humans having to do so seems to happen (literally) overnight. There's a lot to explore there: Who do the invaders target and how do they avoid being noticed, maybe the humans do some research and discover something about the pods that helps them, etc...

​@Jay_delachance I wholeheartedly agree. My only complaint with this movie is that, for obvious time constraint reasons, the invasion and take over feels rushed. Logically time has lapsed for the characters, probably a week to 10 days, but it does feel like the entire movie, save the last few minutes in D.C. at the end, happens in 3 days.

Its interesting that Matthew was capable to kill his own replacement clone, but he couldn't bring himself to kill Elizabeth's. Thats a very human trait and a definite advantage for the body snatchers.

The man-faced dog that only makes squeals and banjo noises has haunted my nightmares for _decades_ now. And that ending still gives me full body goosebumps, no matter how many times i see it. Not just because it's a horrifying image, and it means our last character is doomed. But because i've always gotten the impression that she really was the last human on earth, and we just watch our species die out at the end.

This is an intensely creepy movie, and it’s so unsettling to realize that you can’t stay awake forever, so you’ll eventually get replaced as well, but you still fight it as long as you can.

@@Corn_Pone_Flicks The majority of those critics reviews that are calculated in the RT score are from modern day reviews, not contemporaneous reviews when the film was first released. Sure it's held in high esteem now, but back then it had its share of detractors including from very prominent critics like Janet Maslin and Roger Ebert. Furthermore, when I was growing up back in the 90s most people I know swore by the original 1956 version - I hadn't heard of the 1978 adaptation until I went to college.

The one that catches a little more flak is the 90s one, since it had a more direct-to-video quality...but I think it's still a great film (and used the more modern techniques to do some pretty gruesome stuff with the pods and play around with the concept a bit more)

Now you're ready for The Faculty Kat! It's a great 90's teen horror with an A+ cast (Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Clea Duvall, Famke Janssen), a rockin soundtrack of cover songs, and directed by Robert Rodriguez.

I'd say the original was the Cold War analogy, and this one involved more of the 1970s growth of psychiatry, self-help therapy and questioning personal identity. Nimoy being the perfect embodiment of that particular paranoia and untrustworthiness, in that it's impossible to tell when he first became one of "them"!

This movie is a masterpiece of suspense that gets better on each watch as you pick up on clues you missed before. I’ve seen this a dozen times and I still see more each viewing. The priest on the swing is Robert Duvall!

When I was about 5 I woke up at night and walked out into the living room and my parents were watching this movie. I walked in right when the man/dog came on screen. That thing gave me nightmares until I was about 12. I’m 38 now and that thing still creeps me out.

yes, the original 1956 version, then 1978, saw both on network TV, 1993 and 2007, which I saw both at the theaters. the pod people need this message. for those going through the comments, I've got good news. God is good because He gives His blessings to everyone, whether they be good or bad. but everyone has at least, told a lie, or stolen something in their life. and that makes them sinners, and God will not allow sinners in heaven; in His presence, because He is holy. so, God has to punish the sinners in hell, because God is severe and just. but God is also love and He made a way for some to be saved from His wrath. here are the steps: 1. admit that you're a sinner and are lost. 2. realize that the penalty of sin is death (hell). 3. believe that Jesus (who is God) died on the cross, was buried, then rose from the grave, to pay the penalty for man's past, present, and future sins. 4. trust Christ alone as your Savior, and not on your own good deeds to get you to heaven (nor a combination of your faith and self-righteous works). 5. pray to God NOW that you're accepting Christ's free gift of salvation because if you die before making this decision, it's too late, and you'll 🔥🥵😈 6. and to be a disciple, tell people about Jesus, read the bible, go to church regularly to know God's will for your life.

The late 70s to late 80s were a real golden age where remakes/reboots exceeded their predecessors (Body Snatchers, The Thing, The Fly, The Blob). There have been a whole lot of forgettable remakes in the years since (Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Poltergeist, Psycho, and I can't even track what version of Halloween is currently being re-recycled again).

You got the original 50s one, then this one, then one in the 90s called just "Body Snatchers", and then Nicole Kidman's "Invasion" in the noughties (Kinda the odd one out because here it's a virus that turns humans into aliens who can turn others by vomiting their acid onto them, rather than plants creating replicas). Only seen this and Invasion, so I can't exactly say which one is the best (this IS better than Invasion, which is OK but nothing on this film), but this film is one of my favorites ever, so there.

When it comes to horror-movies of that time period, you always get stuff like The Omen, The Exorcist, Halloween etc. (not saying those are not good movies too), but a lot of people down even know Body Snatchers. What I meant was, it's not as popular/well know, or it's been"forgotten". IMO it would deserve to be right up there with the other 70s classics.

I can't remember if it was 60s or 70s but Cronenberg had one about a gated community in a highrise, and it holds up surprisingly well especially considering it doesn't have the cast this movie does... it almost makes it feel more real when you can't recognize most of the actors though, feels like you're watching a snuff film or something (especially first five minutes or so)

The dog person was the homeless guy playing the banjo in the beginning of the movie and his dog. The pod combined the two, probably because it malfunctioned when Matthew kicked it.

Imagine seeing that ending as a 13 year old kid. Traumatizing, heart wrenching even now.

At 4:38, Kat inadvertently gives us a voiceover for the trailer of a horror movie that doesn't exist, but really should: "They're working together in an intricate system. They're communicating...somehow. It's not even... (music swells as the movie's title is revealed) GARBAGE DAY!"

This movie came out "before" John Carpenter's The Thing, so more accurately, The Thing would be more "Invasion of the Body Snatchers-Esque", LOL.

Kat’s freakishly large smile gives me life

One of the best ending scenes in film history, such a great twist and shot. I also love how it is for the most part an oppressively 'silent' apocalypse. Other movies that while very different do the same thing extremely well are Pulse(2001) and the recent When Evil Lurks(2023). It is such a hard thing to pull off but Invasion does it so well. Great reaction as always.

Kat's suspicious of everyone, then trusts Leonard Nimoy who just moments later shatters her trust! lol This isn't the original and I know of at least one remake, but this is still the best one in my opinion.

A landmark in that special little genre, the *paranoia* movie. :) Rosemary's Baby is another in the group.

This here is a great idea and I second it. "A hotel room" is a fairly easy on-location reaction.

The surprise ending was hidden from the executives on the film. Director, writer, and Sutherland came up with it the morning of the shoot and decided to do it.

Actually the term “pod people” originated in the 1950s film, which was the first invasion of the bodies snatchers. This movie is just a remake, but very good. Body Snatchers which came out in 1993 is a fun watch too.

The timing at 20:15 is hilarious

I think that the Dog/human hybrid was because Matt damaged the seed pod, or it could be because the dog and the human were close together. If you like Donald Sutherland and want to watch another good horror film, try "Don't Look Now", a very scary film. Not many people have reacted to it, so you could be the second! :)

Maybe the damaged pod had trouble separating both individual beings and just went with whatever it managed to get, hence that abomination.

I first saw this in the theatre when I was about twelve. I didn't get scared, largely because I kept having to tell my younger friend sitting next to me what was going on in a very loud voice. He was too short to see over the seat.

I don't know if I'd call "Under the Skin" an arthouse version of this film, per se, but it's one of the most underrated sci-fi films in recent memory. So unique and definitely trippy, but great.

When I first watched this movie, the dog freaked the hell out of me. Greatest jump scare I've ever had. So intensely disturbing.

At 39:13, this is exactly why I will never ever approach Donald Sutherland for a autograph or picture because he might (to my mind) turn to point to me and scare the crap outta me and do that sound. 😂

As a kid, I would never watch horror movies. Everything scared the crap out of me. So when this interesting looking SCI-FI movie comes on television, I think... this will be cool! Little did I know... that ending? Nightmares for years! Even watching with you now, I still had the same chills. As I got older, I started embracing horror movies and watch regularly now, looking for something to scare me. One of the best, and my recommendation to you, is another John Carpenter movie (who directed The Thing), try PRINCE OF DARKNESS. Soooo many great concepts and also nightmare fuel. Very underrated I think.

Philip Kaufman did a masterful job of creating one of the most unsettling, unpleasant, paranoia inducing, creepy, and depressing atmospheres in film history. I’m even feeling it now just by watching this heavily edited reaction video

True. That last scene alone is one of the most bleak, hopeless moments I ever watched. Has stuck in my head since I first watched that movie back as a teen in the early 80s.

You really are a joy to watch from your genuine reactions, to your puns, to your excellent observations and predictions. I consider this a 'perfect' movie.

The real horror of this movie is that Kat never found the REAL horror of this movie.😆

Something really genius about this one and how it taps into some kind of primal fear that everyone has about the people around them being replaced by emotionless monsters. Great reaction. Interestingly, the glove Leonard Nimoy's character wears is the kind that people might wear to cover up a burn or other injury. It was added to make the character stand out and be more distinctive.

I like it when Kat yells, “Snatch!”

I was 11 years old and saw this movie theatrically when it came out. To say the ending messed up my head would be the biggest understatement ever.😂
