Hot Fuzz is set in 'The West Country' - Nick Frost is doing a really good Bristol accent. 'Col. Mustard' is Edward Woodward who is famous for playing 'Callan', and also played 'The Equalizer'. It is a real town, Wells in Somerset, the director Edgar Wright's home town, he used to have a Saturday job in the supermarket. Now you need to do 'The World's End', the final Cornetto film in the trilogy
Have to respect your recognition and naming of all the brilliant British actors. All your watching has paid off!
The entire climax shootout was a culmination of every single errant question that they asked Nicholas when he first came to town. Who's got guns? Farmers. And farmer's mum's. And that's the first thing he runs into. Then Danny asked him about all of these specific scenarios, like have you ever fired two guns at the same time, have you ever jumped through the air while firing a gun, etc. The entire climactic battle is just going down the entire list of things that Nick said he's never done because police officers would never do that in real life.
Two other guest appearances that are easy to miss are Cate Blanchett, who plays his ex at the crime scene, Peter Jackson who made lord of the rings films played the santa that stabed him in the beginning

Just got back from a week in the REAL Sandford, Gloucestershire (Wells, Somerset). As a HOT FUZZ nerd who watches the film every year it was just as awesome as I hoped it would be. I even had a cornetto from THAT newsagent. Fun fact: in the newspaper window there’s a wanted poster for the missing swan.
In response to all of the reviews where people say that the villain was so obvious he may as well have had a neon sign pointing at him saying BAD GUY, Edgar Wright initially planned to do that in the scene where Skinner is introduced, but the camera movements were too complex for it to be viable. Also this movie holds the records for both the shortest high speed chase and the longest non-fatal shootout in cinema

Glad you enjoyed Hot Fuzz - it was filmed in my home town of Wells in Somerset. The director Edgar Wright lived here and went to the local Blue School. The superb cast is entirely due to his fast growing and thoroughly deserved reputation. The running joke of the swan is based on the fact that they inhabit the moat of the Bishop's Palace and regularly leave and turn up in odd places. The pub was not wrecked and is a popular watering hole. Wells is the smallest City in England and a beautiful Cathedral amongst many other glories. A visit will not disappoint.

I think this is the best thought out film ever made. Its a constant barrage of references, in-jokes, Easter eggs, etc. You need to watch it a few times to catch them all.
All the older actors are really famous too. The guy with the cctv room is Edward Woodward who starred as the original Equaliser series in maybe the late 1980's. This movie has a huge cast. The copper you sort of recognised (twins) is comedian Bill Bailey. He was one of Sean Lock's best friends in real life. Also check out the comedy series Black Books, which he is in. I think you would like it.

Rafe Spall (Other Andy) played Noel in Shaun of the Dead (The fat lad who worked in the shop with Shaun - you've got red on you)
Impressive how well you recognize all the actors in this movie.....Paul is fun movie the pair did in the US about an alien.... Sandford is fictitious but the the city they filmed in is Wells Somerset a very lovely place with a historic cathedral and the Bishops of Bath & Wells palace . We visited the market square where Simon Pegg was shot while they were filming and it was a fun time for the city.
Colonel Mustard was played by Horror Icon Edward Woodward, whose final line of "Oh God No!" was his last line from the greatest English Horror The Wicker Man which co-stared Christopher Lee. All three films are great in they're own way; SOTD = Funnier about friends, HF = Great-Balance about making friends, The World's End = Best Production/Action about reuniting friends. the characters are so funny, you almost wish the genre gimmick didn't start!
If you like these two in this you should watch them in the first thing they did together. It's a series called Spaced. Two seasons well worth it.

I loved Spaced. 😂 So good. I grew up in 90s London so it makes me feel really nostalgic. That and Resident Evil kicks ass.
Love this film - next up is 'The Worlds End'! (Shaun of the dead, Hot Fuzz and The Worlds End is the Cornetto Trilogy!)
"Nothing like a bit of girl on girl!" Best line. 😂
Love this movie so much, I've watched it so many times and it only gets better each watch. I got to meet Nick Frost in Dublin and Paddy Considine in Liverpool and they were both absolute gentlemen.
I love this movie. The girlfriend who dumped Sgt Angel was Cate Blancett and Santa was Peter Jackson. Lots of cameos in this. You should finish up the trilogy with World's end.

I am a bit surprised the Harry Potter fan did not recognize the old strangetalking man as the janitor on Hogwarts (I think it is the same person) 😊

No way! How have you not seen this by now 😂 one of my favourite films and so many details you catch on rewatch
Just a brilliant film from start to finish with a superb cast. Painfully funny scenes the showdown in the town when Angel returns is hilarious, a send up of Point Break and Bad Boys, and about every action film ever made. Just brilliant!

That was another enthusiastic watchalong with you both, so thank you for that. Always great when someone spots Steve Coogan in this. You might want to check out an oldie with him, 2001's The Parole Officer, also with Lena Heady. You don't have to do an 'official' posting on it, just something to sit back to, enjoy a 'takeaway curry' and have a goofy ole grin on the whole time. Also, Pegg and Frost teamed up again, though not considered part of the cornetto trilogy, but were in 2011's Paul, which has the 'space aliens' theme, also worth watching (as you brought up).
A brilliant, fantastic funny film! Well written and well acted. When Simon Pegg rides into the town on the horse, it reminds me of the Clint Eastwood film "Pale Rider"

The wealth of talent in this movie is astounding. Olivia is amazing as always, and the desk Sgt is Bill Bailey.
When I first watched this I felt it had a bit of a Wickerman vibe to it. When I read the cast list afterwards that was when I saw Edward Woodward played the head of the NWA. Surely that wasn’t a coincidence. Brilliant film.
The girlfriend, Janine. Is Kate Blanchett, hidden under that surgical mask. You may hoave not noticed. Each time Skinner drove past, the music playing on his car stereo was connected to what just happened. First time he drove past, was when the couple were dead, the song playing was Romeo and Juliet by Dire straits. The second time he went past was when the house exploded and the car was playing FIRE by The crazy world of arthur brown. There are SOOOOO many clues as to what is happening, almost everything is set out to give you a hint about things.

One of the best comedy films ever. And the best out of the three 'Cornetto films'.
Im not sure if someone else has posted this fun fact yet, but yall were gushing over Timothy Dalton so i had to mention it. Dalton had so much fun filming this movie and was so into it, he'd be the first person on set for his shooting days, and would regularly attend shots he had no part in, just to enjoy the film making and laugh. A proper gent, that Dalton is
I live down the road from where Hot Fuzz was filmed (Wells). I park up next to the church where Tim Messenger meets his demise and I always look up.

Alice Lowe (supermarket Tina) is an underrated comedienne who broke through with Garth Marenghi's Darkplace (alongside Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry) & who wrote & starred in a couple of dark comedy fillms - Sightseers & Prevenge - that you & the queen would love. Oh - and she also features in a number of the Harry & Paul sketches, notably the American Tourists.
'Walls Cornetto' was the zenith of Ice creams when I grew up in the 70's. There were 3 main flavours back then, 'classic' that had chocolate and crushed hazelnuts on the top, 'mint' and 'strawberry'. I think Nick Frosts character eats a strawberry one in SOTD. It's a classic in HF and, I think, a mint one in TWE.
Mr Weaver, the head of the NWA that watches over the village with the cctv cameras, was the lead role in ‘The Wicker Man’ a film set in a remote Scottish island who’s population followed Paganism and ultimately sacrificed villagers. He played a policeman who was sent to investigate the disappearances. He also played the original Equalizer in the 1970’s TV show. RIP Mr Edward Woodward.
I like to think of the Cornetto Trilogy as one entity and love all three at once. ❤
Just to note. Each character has the name of an occupation, ie Dr Hacker, andy wainwright, the guy with all the weapons is called mr webley - after a famous gun. Tim messenger is the newsman. Too many to list them all. Glad you enjoyed Hot Fuzz, another name check as the cops are often referred to as the fuzz.
I love all three movies but Hot Fuzz is definitely my favourite one. Out of the three genres being celebrated, I grew up watching more action movies than horror or sci-fi. The real-life town is called Wells and my brother and sister in-law live a short drive away from there. It is absolutely beautiful, especially in the summer
The actor you called 'Colonel Mustard' was Edward Woodward. He starred in the original Wicker Man film, and later the star of the American TV series The Equalizer.

Loved that you recognised most of the cameo appearances; the list is huge. Martin Freeman, Steve Coogan, Bill Nighy, Peter Jackson, Timothy Dalton, etc. There’s about 50 in total.
It was filmed for the most part in Wells Somerset which is a extremely beautiful city and was filmed almost entirely there and when walking around the town center you can see all the buildings (except the model city) and is fantastic
