They really hit it out of the park with the cameos. Especially using real streamers to play the streamers. Makes me wish thst for a future sequel that they could create a tie-in game. Even if it is a cheap, loosely-based gaming environment to just poke around in for a bit.

The movie got pushed back due to Covid and the Disney buyout of Fox. Ryan Reynolds told a story about how after the buy out he sent a letter to DIsney asking to use the shield, hulk hand, and lightsaber, since they were part of the same company now, and got a response just saying "yes." So they wrote back asking, "yes to what?" and the reply was, "all of it." So they re shot the fight scene at the end to put it all in.

That's pretty neat. I'm guessing that Ryan Reynolds is being given a lot of pull at Disney. Deadpool 3 confirmed to be R rated too in addition to Disney giving him carte blanche to use Star Wars and Avengers stuff in what was likely looked at as a failure of a movie by them? Disney has made a lot of mistakes in recent years, but giving Ryan what he wants in a movie is usually a good idea to make money.

The story he told was that they asked about using either the shield, hand, OR, lightsaber and they said “yes” and him and the director took it to mean they could use one of those, but both decided to just pretend they understood “yes to all” and put them all in thinking it would be easier to ask for forgiveness later on, and luckily Disney ended up being ok with it.

"Why do they have invisible walls like that?" Have you not played 90%+ of world games from the 80's and 90's there were always blocked paths that for no reason other than it wasn't programmed could you go, the idea of a free moving open world was Far fetched due to the power of the machines. The ownership of so many intelectual property that Disney hold makes it easy for them to include so much like Light Sabres and Captain America without a breach of Copyright.

One of the things i love about this movie is the details about game bugs... like the reflection showing the wrong graphics. Thats was a real bug in the game cyberpunk (i think the faces didn't show reflections in car windows or something)

Cyberpunk still has that issue occasionally but it's nowhere near as bad as it was at launch. The game is in a much better state after all the patches made it playable on base Xbox and Ps4.

@@alucard624especially now. When I first played the game on ps4 around a year ago it didn’t have many issues, the biggest problem I had was some random crashing if I had the game running all day or loading issues bc it’s ps4. But now, on ps5 it’s great and with the new update it’s better.

I didn't even notice the Rock/Jackman/Evans, cameos until I watched your reaction and I've watched this movie a few times. How did I not notice?! Thanks man!

@MellVerse My wife plays GTA 5 just to watch the NPCs, drives vehicles within the speed limit, stops at stop signs and red lights, parallel parks, and wishes there were turn signals. So yes, there is at least one person (in a comparable game) that watches NPCs in a game. I always come back to this reaction for Free Guy. The excitement peak at the end fight. Guy jumping into the portal to the island (with Mellverse saying, 'please have a happy ending') makes me tear up every time.

Free Guy captures the spirit of the Ready Player One book. Something Ready Player One movie completely failed at. Free Guy really has a lot of heart. The ending is perfect for me. Love it.

What i like about your reactions is that after SO MUCH content...you STILL go in with an open mind, ready to enjoy. I have seen some Reactors slipping into the mindset of being more ready to rip something apart, find holes in it. This "I bet i am too smart for you to entertain me" mindset. I know that movie after movie, show after show, things can get stale after a while and it can be hard to stay in the positive mindset (i even come across it myself on my channel, which is more review-based) but i appreciate that i have never come across one of your videos where i was like "Ah, Mellverse is not in a good mood in this one." and had to bail a few minutes in. Keep up the good work! And remember: Don't have a good day...have a GREAT day!

The “what the shit” line had me laughing so hard

Ooooh you should watch Lost City. A classic-style romcom made so much better by the fact it stars Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum (who is a great comedic actor)

One of my most treasured memories will always be when I met Ryan Reynolds back in 2005 at an Alanis Morissette concert in New Orleans, he was super nice and I got to hug him. Unfortunately I lost his autograph in Hurricane Katrina, but the memory lives on!

Saw this at the drive-ins with my brother in his car next to mine and we could hear each other cracking up. This was such a fun surprise. So creative. Loved the Channing Tatum scene and the ending fight 💙 Also would love if you watch Everything Everywhere All at Once. One of the best movies I've seen. I hope it wins all the awards. P.S. The anti-AI commentary was hilarious. We don't want any Skynet!! 😜🤖

Can we all just agree that the Best Friend should have been the love interest? Considering all that he did and how he was there for our boy Guy. That man deserves to be cherished! Lol

I really liked it. I felt it was able to convey in a simpler comedic way the concepts of consciousness, reality, and free will. It's like The Matrix, The Truman Show, and I, Robot all rolled into one.

Keys doesn't leave the office to do a lot of his stuff because the easiest way to bypass a firewall is by being physically inside the LAN. Also, a lot of admin functions are locked out of remote access entirely so that hackers can only do so much.

Mello! Idk if you remember watching "They Live" but this movie has big parallels to that one with the whole glasses unlocking a new world

The great thing about this movie is that Guy isnt just the protagonist of the movie but he is the theme itself. Guy is essentially Kez (Steve) in a sense because his coding was made with love and care. He put himself into the code with this specific NPC. Which is even more lovely when you realize that the goal of the game they were making were designed for Players not just to watch NPC's, but to learn from them on how to live better. We use games to be the opposite of what we are to live a fantasy but hardly do we use games to improve our actual lives and grow like the characters in said game. Just my take I know Im hella late I just watched the movie yesterday and I'm disappointed I didn't watch it earlier.

I just love that MOST of the character names in this movie are generic because it really doesnt matter. Ryan Reynolds is "Guy", Lil Rey is "Bud", you got "Keys" and "Mouser", all their names are just related to what they do. Because they are NPCs they dont need real names and because Keys and Mouser are programmers they get a generic nickname that fits with programming. Thats some SERIOUSLY good "trimming of fat" in a script.

I love that you always pay attention to good directing or good animation!! that doesnt get enough props.

Great flick, a Recent breath of fresh air. Interestingly enough, this movie is on Disney+ and that's how I saw it. But it's also on HBOMax... I don't get it either... A similar movie you should check out is John Carpenter's "They Live".

Dude Mel, I love you but you totally missed the joke with The Dude. He is an unfinished character, that is why he says things like “Catchphrase” and “TBD” “Third thing here”, because those are placeholders in his programming. It’s not lazy writing by the screenwriters.

Ready Player One still probably one my favorite video game type movies ever (especially in 3D). This one was one pretty solid though

Free Guy is Ready Player One's video game setting and pop culture references done right. I wanted to like Ready Player One, but I just couldn't get into the story and the game world didn't make much sense, though if you just want to play a game of "I understood that reference!" it's fun to watch with other people and see who can pick out what. Free Guy just FEELS more like a video game, and you can tell the game world and background elements were created by people who have a better (not perfect, but better) understanding of how video games, particularly MMO's, work. It's still a fun game of "Spot the reference" but it's not as distracting.

This is honestly my favorite movie of the last few years and I am not even a Gamer. I’ve always been a Game Watcher. It’s just a feel good movie that was brilliantly written and unbelievably clever and original. The best line was “I’m just a love letter to you.”. After watching your reaction though, I am glad I watched this movie alone while stoned and NOT in the presence of a Gamer. I would have been mad as hell if someone had bitched about game etiquette through the whole damn movie. Haha😅. I agree on Vanilla Ice Cream. My favorite is Edy’s Slow Churn Vanilla Bean. It’s worth trying. Much love friend. ♥️
