It's very telling that when Jenny was trying to show that she loved him, she turned to physical intimacy. Once again, her childhood conditioning coming into play; which is why I believe she ran away right after.

Same. She did it in college and again when she came home. I also think people don't consider how growing up Forrest might have felt like a brother to her. Which would make feeling romantic with him very confusing.

You did not let me down mike! so many male reactors are so harsh & judgmental toward jenny, they are so in love with Forrest they dismiss what must happen to if your PARENT, the person with half your DNA, and who you should trust more than anyone, degrades you. Forrest has been through a lot, the world is cruel to him but at least his mother loved him and his home was safe. Jenny is desperate to find love in the world because her home was never safe. So thanks 🙃

Tell me about it. Most reactors HATE Jenny with a passion. It's almost scary that they don't recognize PTSD symptoms from child abuse. When you've been SA'ed by a parent, someone you by default trust, your ability to trust people is gone. Jenny came up with Run Forrest Run because that's what she's been doing all her life. Running. Forrest just takes her advice in difficult situations because he loves her. I never held it against Jenny that she left Forrest multiple times. She had to go through her own process to get to a place where she could accept love, and I think having a kid with Forrest helped her with that. Thanks to KZread, this movie is finally getting the love that it actually deserves. It was seen as overrated for years. Tom Hanks playing a goofy character in a sappy movie. But it's getting there. Robert Zemeckis is a great director too.

It’s not just male reactors, but female reactors too that don’t cut Jenny slack for her trauma. In fact I’ve never seen a male or female reactor with this perspective. And it’s something i always look for and never see. Jenny receives a lot of hate by some and i just don’t get it.

My life parallels Jenny's in so many ways. My abuse came from an uncle and thankfully not a parent. Recovery is possible...but hard. I'm 69 y.o. and I often think how my life could have been different without that uncle. Never found true love, but thankfully have 3 wonderful kids that make up most of what was lost...and found God at an early age and He sustains me. God is good all the time!

I see a lot of reactors who judged Jenny. I like that Mike actually understood the real issue and how childhood (or long term adulthood) abuse impacts your whole world. It's shocking that people think so simply on Jenny's actions, but I guess the silver lining is, these people have never experienced something so bad that they actually cant comprehend the complexities. Their ignorance is frustrating but I'm glad they also don't know the realities.

I adored this movie when it was in theathers and watched it a lot over the years. But it became my touchstone when my son was diagnosed with severe, nonverbal autism and I was getting doctors basically writing him off or telling me all the things he would never be able to do. My husband, his dad, had just died. So I channel my inner Sally Field. When things would get tough or the insurance was running me around, I'd say - what would Forrest's Mama do? My sons life is not perfect, but its also nowhere near the hopeless and very small box they tried to put him in. He is thriving Love your reaction ❤ You are a beautiful soul.

I loved everything about this reaction, but especially that you were able to understand where Jenny was coming from! Most reactors I've seen have spent the whole movie hating on Jenny because of how she hurt Forrest (which is fair), but hardly anyone seems to get that it's all coming out of her own pain and trauma. "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Hanna Hall and Jacqueline Lovell. Casting Notes Fact: The girl in the school bus with the red hair is Tom Hanks's daughter, Elizabeth Hanks. Historical Fact: During the ambush in Vietnam the enemy is never actually seen. This led many combat veterans, especially Vietnam veterans, to rate this as one of the most accurate combat scenes in movie history. It was very sudden, the enemy wasn't seen, and it happened very quickly. Music Enthusiast Fact: Inspired by Lieutenant Dan Taylor, the military veteran character he played in this movie, Gary Sinise co-founded a rock and roll cover band called "The Lt. Dan Band" during the mid-2000s. The band often goes on USO tours to play for U.S. military personnel stationed around the world and also plays various benefits for veteran-related causes. Sinise was awarded the Presidential Citizen Medal in 2008 for his charity efforts. Double Duty Fact: In the movie there are four actors/actresses who play multiple roles. Gary Sinise plays Lieutenant Dan as well as all of his ancestors. Mykelti Williamson plays Benjamin Beaufort "Bubba" Blue, as well as the waiter opening Dr. Pepper bottles when Forrest meets JFK as an All-American. Sally Field plays Forrest's mom, as well as a male reporter during Forrest's run across America. Tom Hanks plays both Forrest and his Confederate ancestor.

Growing up in Canada physically disabled and seeing this on video for the first time at 12 years old shortly after it was released, I loved this movie. I'm still looking for my Jenny, though, all these years later. From a young age, I understood all the racial implications of movies, having seen Mississippi Burning when I was very young and watching a series on WWII about the Holocaust. If there's one way to get me emotional, show me people being abused or oppressed by bigots, because I'm white, but I've been bullied because of the way I walk. The irony of this movie is that while Forrest may have an academic disability, he understands a greater truth about humanity that most of the characters take years to understand. "Why are you so good to me?" "You're my girl." If you're good to him, he's good to you. And if you're not, he wants to know why because he might be able to fix it. His faith in humanity is unwavering.

I'm glad you saw the tragedy in Jenny's story, it's so nice to see her getting a happy (yet short) end with Forrest catching up to her, being the most loving father to their son (: Also at the end when Forrest walks away from Jenny's grave, he turns around one more time as birds fly off. Its a nice closure to her childhood trauma because she was always praying for god to turn her into a bird so she could fly away. In a way the birds are her spirit finding closure in her final moments, finally free to fly away. Really such a beautiful movie.

Yo great reaction my friend. Shout out to you for understanding Jenny and realizing there was.a reason she acted like she did. I've seen so many reactors who just hate on Jenny without emphasizing with her. She was abused as a child so she could not accept the love that Forrest was trying to give her. We accept the love we think we deserve and Jenny felt she did not deserve Forrest in her life. Even though she told Forrest he did not know what love was, it was truly Jenny that didn't know what love was. How could she when the only love she ever received was from Forrest? Once she cleaned up and had a son, she finally felt she was ready to accept Forest's love.

"In the original Winston Groom novel, Jenny dies of hepatitis C, discovered in 1989. In the film, written by Eric Roth, Jenny died on March 22, 1982. It wasn't until an interview with Yahoo! News in 2019 that Roth clarified that, yes, in the film, Jenny did indeed die of AIDS. "Jenny's AIDS diagnosis was confirmed in a planned sequel to "Forrest Gump" that would have brought the character up to the 1990s. Throughout "Gump," the character unwittingly stumbled into various notable historic events and unwittingly invented small pieces of Americana the audience can chuckle at. He met multiple presidents, gave Elvis Presley the idea to shake his hips, and penned the phrase "s*** happens." The sequel would take a similar approach, putting Forrest at a dance competition with Princess Diana, and, in a truly bizarre idea, on the roof of O.J. Simpson's white Bronco during his infamous 1994 chase. It's notable that Zemeckis' original film was released in L.A. theaters the week after the Simpson chase." I think a lot of viewers miss/forget that Jenny's dad was sexually abusive to her and her sisters, not just a violent drunk. Her concept of love and intimacy was wounded from the start. I think that's why she felt so bad for Forrest in her dorm room and why she ran away after they had sex in his house. He's so innocent with that kinda stuff, like she was. For her, it's like they're repeating her childhood in reverse.

    1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune💲💲 2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis. 3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😋 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks" 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey. If you haven't already, you must do Tom Hanks in the GOAT "The Green Mile". Stephen King adaptation. You WILL cry.😭

For a younger Tom Hanks, check out 1988’s Big or 1984’s Splash. For a really young Tom, check out a tv episode of Busom Buddies from 1981.

I've watched so many Forest Gump reactions and I never get sick of it. I recommend "Good Will Hunting" as well, another I never get sick of watching reactions to. You'll love Robin Williams' performance in it as the therapist

Great reaction! New subsciber 👍 Hope this helps the algorithm for you ❤ Your empathy, compassion, and kindness for the characters was nothing short of tear jerking. Finally someone has articulated why this movie hits me so hard in the feels. What Jenny, Forrest and Lt. Dan went through was horrible and gut wrenching at times. And that line (that most people breeze over) "Sometimes there just aren't enough rocks", oof 😭 but thanks for drawing attention to it 💔 On a lighter note, I love that this movie made you go order shrimp for your snack 😂 I wish I liked seafood so I could try a shrimp gumbo, it sounds awesome. Off to watch another of your videos now. The Green Mile is next for me. Might as well whilst I've got the tissues out from this one! haha. Big love from Manchester UK xXx

Had to come for some Forrest. U mentioned u had done it in ur Green Mile reaction, so thought Id hop over. I fully agree with ur thoughts on the whole, "U dont know what love is", subject. Awww, let it out it cleanses the soul. Sending a hug and good vibes. Well I can say we hippies definitely like dressing comfortably. Thanx so much, Peace

Most people agree that Jenny has not only PTSD, but borderline personality (what happens when you'e subjected to repeat abuse during the formative years of life). She doesn't know how to receive love like Forrest's. In her life love was always associated with pain. She doesn't feel she deserves him-and so she pushes him away. Her asking to marry him in the end, many people see as selfish-but she wanted their son to be with him-and she wanted to be with him too.

According to Tom Hanks, Forrest’s DC speech was as follows: "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don’t go home at all. That’s a bad thing. That’s all I have to say about that."

In the original Winston Groom novel, Jenny dies of hepatitis C, discovered in 1989. In the film, written by Eric Roth, Jenny died on March 22, 1982. It wasn't until an interview with Yahoo! News in 2019 that Roth clarified that, yes, in the film, Jenny did indeed die from AIDS. They shied away from calling it either when the movie came out because both were still controversial. But especially AIDS was still risky to put in a movie and not have that pull all the focus.
