The actor who plays Lieutenant Dan is such a great guy. He started a foundation for veterans of war and had done so much for that community that we was made an “honorary Lieutenant” - kind of like being knighted, but by the military. Great film. I enjoyed watching it with you gals. ❤️

Jenny's problem is how she was used and abused, 1st by her father, then by every man she met except Forrest. She felt like she was worth nothing and was never going to be worth anything and would just bring Forrest down with her , she had no idea how to love anyone. It wasn't until she had little Forrest and was give one pure good thing in her life she was able to find her self worth to a point and then accepted that she loved Forrest and always had and it was OK to love someone and not expect them to hurt her. It is very complicated and you get snippets of it in every scene she is in. The first thing you see is all she knows how to do is run from anything as she keeps telling Forrest to do , she doesn't know any other way to deal with the pain and bad and it takes her so long to finally figure it out ( unfortunately this is true for too many and some never get to figure anything out) , Jenny deserves pity not hate , she didn't know how to love until it was too late but she gave Forrest 2 gifts before she left, true love and what it feels like , and someone to love and give his life meaning in Forrest Jr. . Forrest might not be a genius but I would lay any bet he is an incredibly loving and good father.

Hey Hingle, I agree with you 100 percent. I wonder if the final product of this movie exceeded the expectations that the cast/crew had when they shot the film. I feel like they might have known this movie was going to be something special! Whenever I watch Forrest Gump, my experience with the movie is that it is SO engaging and well-acted that it feels like it is a quick watch even though the movie is almost 2 1/2 hours long. I just find it to be very inspirational, and it has moments that I think most people can relate to on an emotional level. Also, my brother has Autism, which makes me connect with the movie even more (I know Forrest did not have Autism, but him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). Back in February this year, I actually posted a video on my channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique. If you have a few minutes sometime and are interested, here is a link to that video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gaZh1auifqS0ico.html If you don't check it out, no worries at all! I won't be offended! But thank you so much in advance if you do see it! Have a great day, and stay safe! P.S.- I really dig your username! "Hingle McCringleberry". Awesome! :)

In the part where he's talking at the monument and the dude shuts off his mic but Forest keeps talking, when he comes back on we hear the end "And that's all I have to say, about that.." which is what he usually ends a story with if he's talking about someone who has died. And knowing Forest, taking about Vietnam, he probably talked about meeting Bubba and how he died by that river in his arms. Which is unintentionally a really good antiwar story. The recurring theme of just stripping everything away and just seeing the simplicity of it. He went, he made a friend, his friend died. He went, met Lt. Dan, Dan lost his legs but he remains Dan Taylor. All of the little stories through the whole movie are just reality as seen by someone unburdened with the baggage society places on us.

I don't think Forest's message was as simple as an "anti-war message." I am a retired soldier in my country, I know what it is to serve, what it is to live a war and what is there when returning from that place. Believe me, what we soldiers see, think or feel and what the Protestants see, think or feel are different. Most of us when we see people protesting war issues…all we see is people in masks, hypocrites who claim to be on your side and then are talking about you behind your back portraying you as a fool or a butcher. Protestants are the same as politicians, they have an agenda to direct the destiny of others from the comfort of their sofas, they all want is to use you or propagandize your circumstances in exchange for personal gain. Forest's message was probably something more along the lines of "a lot of the best people I've known fought in Vietnam, some came back some didn't but their memories will always be with me wherever I go and all I ask all of you is respect them, they were already used in life for the good of one or the other, do not use them also after death.

The fact that he didn’t die his “glory” death on the battlefield. He finally thanked Forrest for saving him, TWICE. First in Vietnam and the second time with his depression and helping him get back to living. He is finally happy and at peace with his life, his past, and with himself. Truly the most beautiful scene, seeing a man finally accept his happiness and his life because his fellow brother-in-arm didn’t abandon him.

Strong, good hearted, not too bright, still phenomenally successful, due in part to the counsel of his (smarter) friends. Jenny represents the counter culture, and by extension, civil rights, feminism, AIDS crisis etc. Lt Dan was about the generation coming to terms with Vietnam and represented the scientific advancements of the time referencing the space program and the tech industry. Doing it “their way” by adding a scene & insuring a dangerous one, really didn't add anything to the story. They didn't pay for anything out of their own pockets. Their salaries accounted for ¼ of the budget, so they agreed to a lesser fee in exchange for a piece of the profits. They ended up making 10X their original salaries, this had little to do with artistic integrity.

Hey J Rob Woo, that must have been an awesome experience to see this on opening day! Whenever I watch Forrest Gump, my experience with this movie is that it is SO engaging and well-acted that it feels like it is a quick watch even though the movie is almost 2 1/2 hours long. And despite it being a fictional story, I still find it to be very inspirational, and it has moments that I think most people can relate to on an emotional level. Also, my brother has Autism, which makes me connect with the movie even more (I know Forrest did not have Autism, but him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). I actually posted a video on my channel back in February that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). When you're old as I am, this movie is somewhat of a chronicle of your life. I remember every event in this film and live through it. Thank you beautiful people for such a wonderful reaction.

I hate how many people think Jenny is the villain. She's someone who suffered early childhood trauma, and that tends to really mess people up. She gets blamed for being a bad person, but sometimes trauma can destroy the rest of your life. I don't know, I just love how much Forrest loves her for her, and doesn't treat her any differently

Being treated like Jenny was since early childhood fully affected her sense of self worth which can mess with what one believes one's worth. She wanted to be loved by Forrest, but didn't feel like she was worthy of that kind of pure, unconditional love that he offered. Wanting something so bad but not feeling worthy of that thing can cause one's choices to become erratic and be seen as, perhaps, villainous to anyone who isn't willing to give that person the benefit of understanding, as has clearly happened with Jenny since this movie came out.

@@thaesimir --- Thanks Doc. Geez! Jenny didn't even tell Forrest that he had a son until the kid was school age and she knew she was dying. If she hadn't been dying, there is absolutely no indication that she would have ever told him.

@@jeffreiland7463 Jenny didn't use it as an excuse, hell she didn't even tell Forrest what her father did. In Forrest's mind, he thinks Jenny's dad was loving.

Girls, you just saw a great movie winner of the academy award, he also won best actor, best adapted screenplay, best director (Robert Zemeckis ), best special effects and best editing among other awards. Starring Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump) Robin Wright (Jenny Curran) Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan Tylor) and Sally Field (Mrs. Gump). Without a doubt, a movie to enjoy with the family.
