A great movie to pick. I’d hate how some ppl tend to think this movie is conservative with its admittedly simple retelling of American history and that Jenny is so annoying. 1. The movie from one video analysis is actually a retelling of the American myth is as the years go on by. Forrest IS America’s spirit. Forrest sees desegregation, the effects of Vietnam, the presidents from 1960-1980s, Beatles, drugs, entrepreneurship, the effects of space travel, and even the running craze of the 70s-80s. I all of these things Americans lived through, trying to find meaning or just being swept by the culture. 2. Jenny was abused and as Forrest out “sometimes there jsut ain’t enough rocks.” Jenny had issues, and the story refuses to simply say “oh poor her. Look at what was done to her.” As we are living in Forrest’s perspective, we can’t ever get a full picture. If you want another heartwarming story that does tell history with memorable characters, plz watch the free KZread series: History if the Seattle mariners .

It's like being angry at paraphrasing "I study war so my son may study science so his son might study arts" rather than saying the full quote. It has the same impact. Either way, it's also rude to point out these simple mistakes, as it shows that you are ableist and expect perfection from others.

And she apologized for pushing Forrest away in the end, and they made up after she was able to heal somewhat and recover mentally. When did Lt. Dan apologize after pulling Forrest to the floor to yell in his face in the hospital, insulting him, and treating him like garbage for some time? He and Forrest made up along the way and worked together in the end. Yet Lt. It's nice to see a reactor actually understand Jenny instead of bashing her, which is the popular hot take. The thing about Jenny that is easy to miss if you're not familiar with sexual trauma and its effects on a person, is that her literal personality bedrock was shaped from childhood to believe she was damaged and less than, only deserving of abuse. She didn't feel good enough for Forrest, she didn't feel like she deserved true happiness. That's part of what creates the repeat abusers cycle and the horrible self-care with drugs and risky sex, etc.

It’s a not so subtle nod to Ratso Rizzo in Midnight Cowboy… ANOTHER movie you should see. BTW: that line “hey, I’m walking here!” wasn’t a line in the Midnight Cowboy script. That was Dustin Hoffman actually mad. They didn’t have the budget to shut down a Manhattan street so there were real cabbies coming and going. That was a pissed off Hoffman. 😄 They left it in the movie.

Jenny didnt want Forrest to be her BOYFRIEND. That doesnt mean she didnt care about him. She knew she was troubled bc of her bad, abusive childhood. She didnt want to involve Forrest in her messed up life. Also. Forrest was mentally slow. Its ok for a person of "normal" intelligence to not want to be in a romantic relationship with someone who has the mentality of a child. She always loved him. That doesnt mean they were supposed to be together as a couple... and i always find it so weird when people are nasty about Jenny and say "why didnt she get with Forrest shes so mean!" Completely ignoring or missing the fact that she has low self esteem. Ptsd from childhood abuse, no plan in life, and she KNOWS that. She protected Forrest FROM her, bc she knew she shouldnt be around him til she got her life together. Also, no, ot wouldnt be better if Lt. Dan died, he just had some stuff to work through.

I think Jenny loved Forrest all along,he was her safety haven from childhood. Well, whenever she didnt have to try and protect him from the bullies. But she was abused from childhood, and that often creates alot of trauma and people act differently on it. Some tends to involve themselfs with people they know have a bad impact on them. Kind of like some people admit theyr obsession with food abuse, they know its not healty but they need help to stop it. Any addiction basically. It has alot of similarities. But another effect is that people abused becomes terrified, develop anxiethy and depression or worse. And it takes them years to trust someone again. At first my mom criticized Robin Wright Penn (married to Sean Penn when this released) for her role, but then she regret it all as she understood that people are different and will deal with a history of abuse differently. Mom was abused by 2 men in her short short life, so she was easily critical of movies where abused women "took on the abuse too lightly or if they were too strange from her own experience". She admitted that she was judging Robins acting skills here abit too fast. It could have been many reasons as to why Jenny kept running away. 1 reason i often think of is that Forrests home was close to her own childhood home, wich brought too many bad memories back for her. But i do understand why people get upset with her at first, its not easy to understand how she is feeling and thinking. Many people i have recommended this movie too says the same thing: I hate that they called Forrest stupid! I agree,he is far from stupid. But like his mom said,he is abit on the slow side,it takes abit more time for him to realize stuff. As a grown ass man, this movie does destroy me emotionally! But I also get some good laughs from it. Especially the deepfakes before deepfake was even a thing. This movie was way ahead of its time. Today everyone can get deepfake apps on theyr cellphones. But i do wish that Jenny settled with Forrest much sooner, that most likely would have saved her life. What baffled me is that she most likely died to HIV,but had a baby with Forrest. She must have gotten it afterwards? Even after giving birth? I dont know there 🤔Still one amazing movie though!

I often think of what a "Forrest Gump 2" would look like. I would like it to be the same kind of movie as the first, but follow Jenny through her life. We would see a life full of pain and abuse, her only friend being the local simpleton Forrest Gump, who clearly has a crush on her, but she doesn't feel that way about him. It'd be a film about her coming to terms with her childhood abuse, eventually learning to love herself, before finally being with the man who has loved her since the beginning.

His life story is incredible, but underneath it all, his mother was a single mom in the 50s raising a neuro divergent son, Bubba was a poor, black neuro divergent man who grew up in the deep south during segregation, Lieutenant Dan was dealing with the trauma of being an amputee and questioning his faith in God, and Jenny was a victim of such horrible abuse that she self sabotaged because she felt she didn't deserve to be happy. Those personal details would shape our perception of these people, but Forrest didn't see it that way. All Forrest saw was that they were good people who needed and deserved his love. It's a simple concept that we all could learn from.

The movie was released when I was 22, but apart from one or two clips I never watched it until last year. It was a lot more serious than I expected, and it made me cry just like it did for you. My parents got the soundtrack, a 2 CD set, when it was new, and I agree that it is excellent, though the Jackson Browne song (Running on Empty) is conspicuously missing. Though it isn't my favorite film, it is among the best made ones that I have ever watched. The special effects with the historical footage into which the main character is inserted still impress me, which is especially remarkable now that the film's debut is nearly 30 years old. Loved your reaction. I hope your channel grows significantly and brings you great success.

I remember seeing this with my mom when it came out in theaters. She taught first grade for over forty years. She bawled twice. Once was when little Jenny prayed to be a bird to fly away from her abusive father. The second , and this is where she went to pieces, is when Forest asked if his son was smart. Mom always requested to work with the “slow” kids and she LOVED it. The little daily victories with those kids kept her going. She loved her work and she loved her students. She felt it when Forest was afraid his son would be “slow” too. I looked over at her and asked if she was ok and she said, “I just want to give him a hug!”

My father served in the US Army during the Vietnam war between 1969-1971(during the Agent Orange fiasco) in the 25th Infantry!! 😮😮 I'm glad you are finally watching this great movie!! Favorite Tom Hanks movie was this and "Apollo 13" Favorite Sally Fields movie "Smokey And The Bandit"(1977) I was also looking at the movies you already reached to and seen you saw the "Star Wars" saga… you need to watch Spaceballs(1987) comedy parody directed and some characters played by: Mel Brooks… with John Candy RIP, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman(who played the president in "Independence Day") and Daphne Zynaga(?)!! It's very funny and has many references to other films!!

I can completely relate to being in "substitute teacher" mode. Back in school, if I walked into class and saw a substitute teacher, that meant "party time". I would NEVER want to be employed as a sub. You're not going to get much done because you're basically just there to stare at a room full of unruly kids.😂

What a wonderful review! Your editing was on point too. You are one of the few reactors that had sympathy for Jenny. I think she just didn't think she was good enough for Forrest. I loved the soundtrack too. Others don't mention it. Now you know why this is my favorite movie. My husband and I quote it a lot. "But you ain't got no legs Lt. Dan". 😅 Editing to add: My son has autism and says he can relate to Forrest a lot. I wonder.....

I know Jenny was very psychologically damaged due to her father’s abuse, loser boyfriend abuse, drug abuse, and everything else she suffered. I just don’t think it’s fair to ask for Forest’s hand in marriage now that she’s sick with no hope of getting better, potentially at death’s door. It’s cool that she was able to get cleaned up, and take care of herself and her son, but Forest won’t even get a chance to build a life with them, as a family. It would’ve been great if they could’ve gotten married the first time he asked. They would’ve at least had more time together as a family.

Gentle Reminder that Jenny suffered from childhood onset ptsd due to sexual abuse. She's running until the very end of the movie bc that's all she knows how to do. It's her flight, fight or freeze instinct being triggered by trauma over and over again. For anyone reading this who thinks or worries about a loved ones behavior, pls consider trauma can be the cause and that trauma can be unknown to you no matter how close you are to someone. It's not a matter of trust- our brains try to block traumatic memories which is why therapy is so important. It's also why some people aren't fully aware of their trauma until starting therapy

The older blonde girl on the school bus in the red and white dress is Tom's daughter Elizabeth. Tom based Forrest's speech on the kid who played him as a kid. There was going to be a sequel where Forrest was raising his son who contracted aids from Jenny and he was going to meet Princess Diana and be near the Oklahoma bombing and other 90's events but the script shower up either the before or after 9/11 and Tom and the director decided the movie had no meaning anymore so decided not to make it.

Jenny‘s behavior throughout her life is a direct result of her being molested as a child. It is not unusual for victims of child molestation to wind up as drug addicts, prone to suicide and have low self-esteem. Jenny did not believe she was good enough for Forrest because he was so sweet and she was damaged goods. For many years people would blame the victim for what happened to them rather than blaming and punishing the pedophile so the victim lives their entire life thinking that it was their fault they were molested.

When Jenny tells Forrest that he didn't know what love was, the irony is that it's Jenny who doesn't know what love is and only realized she loved Forrest as more than a friend when she was dying. She married Forrest, I believe, because he had always wanted to marry her. She knew he would be the most loving father to their son because he had always been so good to her. While he suffered losses, Jenny ultimately gave him the ultimate gift--a child born of their love (and a child who would never be abused as she was and would receive the parental love she never had known).

If no one said, the Bubba Gump food place was named after the stuff in this movie. I always felt jenny pushed Forrest away because she didn't want to ruin his life with he bad stuff in her life. Tom Hanks started as a stand up comedian. He was in a bad tv series called Bosom Buddies before he became a star. I think his first two movies were Splash and Bachelor Party. His first few movies were mostly comedies. Then he did a few sappy but good love stories and was pretty famous but then he took it to the next level.
