See!? The Beastie Boys show that THIS is what true emceeing is supposed to be. Live, unscripted, flowing off the beat, improvisation, rocking the crowd. This is one of the roots that Hip Hop needs to get back into.

i went to NYC to visit friends for a few months, rented a room in an apartment, got a part time job back in 2004. i had bought a bicycle and was riding that back and forth through brooklyn to the job etc. one day coming home in the afternoon suddenly there was a huge crowd on Atlantic and a stage on the block and it was the Fugees playing live. Dave Chapelle had thrown a block party out of nowhwere. another time on my way to work a limo pulled up outside a building and a man got out, and kept getting out, and kept getting out. he was one of the tallest men i ever saw up close, it was Magic Johnson and some girl yelled OMG ITS MAGIC JOHNSON and that was exactly my same thought. another time on the way to the store at night i was at a red light and lil Wayne pulled up on a shiny silver dirtbike doing a stoppie. man telling these stories sounds like i'm full of it or like things i dreamed and thought was real but i'm telling at many times in its history NYC has been amazingly lit to a crazy crazy degree. it's sad to see the state it's in now but i know it will come back eventually even if it's 20 years from now.

My vote for the next Beastie Boys song to react to is "Fight For Your Right to Party" followed by a live reaction to "Fight For Your Right to Party (Revisited)" video, which is pretty much a star-studded half hour movie that picks up right after the original video ends.

Check out Intergalactic again - many of the indoor scenes were filmed in the Tokyo subway system. Far from being unknown, the Beasties were huge in Japan. The story goes that they didn't get permission to film, they just showed up one day during rush hour and started filming away. If you look closely, you can see commuters being astonished by the music video interrupting their commute. The Beasties were art school students and deeply immersed themselves in the NYC culture they grew up around. They knew exactly what they were doing, even when they didn't. Maybe especially when they didn't.

One of the many great things about the Beastie Boys is how great they are live I know you listened to Whatcha Want but you really need to check them doing it Live of The Arsenio Hall Show back in the '92. They come at it with an intensity, unrivaled. It was nothing you'd expected to see on regular TV in 1992. And because the Beasties are the coolest cats in the world, they have Cypress Hill doing a verse that didn't make the regular album cut. Absolutely no ego whatsoever. They could have easily just did the album cut but instead they put Cypress Hill on TV with them. That's legendary shit.

@ladaddy19: has a good point. I'm not saying I'm an expert or anything but the live version of Brass Monkey on Soul train and at Madison Square Garden are really tight. Madison Square Garden probably a little more amped. And the Beastie Boys & Dave Chappelle - The New Style (Live) is defiantly hot. So I'm into Beastie Boys live personally.

You should check out the 3MCs and 1 DJ/So Whatcha Want performance Live on Letterman from 2006! These guys spread such positivity and you're doing a great job reacting to all these, such a fun discography to go through!

Love it how you honor and describe their work. My first album (I was 9 years old) was 'Thriller ('82)', then in 1984 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome", AOF 'Who’s Afraid of the Art of Noise?' & Duran Duran's "Arena' (84) and in 1986 Kraftwerk's 'Musique non stop' and BB 'License to Ill'. However, in my opinion, none of these great artists have such an honest, somehow consistent 'step up' to the always lustful, creative and at the same time constant hip-hop/rap pop cultural output. They made me happy right up until their last album. And there's really only 'WEEN' left - and they are wonderfully unpredictable and serve anything but a genre.

They were so genuine.. so authentic.. and were such a huge part in taking hip hop to the next level. I was 12 or 13 when License to Ill came out, and I wore the f?!k out of that cassette I listened to it so much. And it was so cool to see them grow, and evolve as I got older.. they never made the same album twice, always experimenting every step of the way. Legends.

I love how true MCs, the MCs that came from the Hip Hop Dance party days, and battle rappers are the best at the live show. It seems like so many Rappers are only able to preform well in the studio. The live show is something that so many rappers forget about. I just saw Snoop Dogg Live and the man knows how to put on a show. I see some local rapper at a show spitting the same Migos style flow . All I can think of is how unoriginal this flow is and man this guy needs to go to more actual shows to see how to work a crowd.
