First Time Skin-on-Frame Sea Kayak Build. Beautiful Video with Natural Sound.
Liz has been filming me building kayaks for 6 years, this time we switched places so she could build one herself for the first time! In this video Liz is building our F1 kayak design. This is one of four different kayaks we offer. It comes in 7 different sizes to fit paddlers from 100 to 250 lbs and weighs about 30lbs in the medium size.

It is called ASMR, and videos with sensory audio like this have become popular in recent years. You can understand why!

From the craft perspective, not speeding, but cutting away the less interesting parts makes the video superb IMHO

YES! Most of the videos today are terribly annoying due to excessive editting additions!
I built a kayak when I was 15. I 'scrounged' the wood from building sites, at 1am. My father got me canvas and screws from his workplace. My mate also constructed a similar one. We spent a week canoeing from Oxford to Putney along the Thames. One of the memorable things in my youth. 😊
Absolutely beautiful poetry in motion...no annoying music, or ridiculous voice over...True craftsmanship at its finest ❤🎉
Wait...what?....wow! Holy cow! As a woodworker for 30 years I often search you tube for skilled vids. This is potentially one of the best I've ever seen! To any one and everyone involved in this construction, I hope you fall asleep with a little pride at night. You should. Skills like this are rare. ❤️ Liked, Subscribed!
Truly wonderful! Thank you both for taking the time to build, film, edit and post this video.
Just simply stand up and applaud that stunning craftsmanship! 👏 Cracking job !!!! 👍🏴
Both the kayak and the video are beautifully constructed. I'm captivated & inspired. Thanks

@@capefalconkayakBrian, another great video. Your fingerprints are all over this build from the methods to your old leather steam bending belt to a glimpse of your fingers at 11:53. Hope you are well.
Sublime….as a woodworker and artist, I really appreciate and enjoyed this, brilliantly filmed and edited.
Wow, so many skills and so much effort went into making that beautiful kayak. Must have felt extremely satisfying to paddle away in it.
I saw this was 17 minutes long and I thought, hmm, mybe I'll just skip through parts of it. So I started watching at the beginning and 17 minutes later I found that I had watched all of it without skipping anything, lol. :D Lovely video. If you ever give up making boats you should definitely go into some type of video editing business. All of your videos are top-notch. Well done all.
Very nice kayak. My father and I used to build cedar strip canoes, it ended up being his favorite thing to do, this pots reminded me of the fun we had building then and cedar strip kayaks and floating rivers in Canada and anywhere we could .thanks for the everything. I miss him so
Frank from Wisconsin. Watching a long time. 1 build under my belt. As a career Carpenter I RESPECT your work. 2nd. Vessel on the table. Thanks, frank
Absolutely fantastic stuff! Seeing it placed in the water at the end was magical.

Wow this girl really knows how to build things ... Beautiful peace of work.
To say she has amazing skills is an understatement!
Hand-holding that drill for a perfect 45 deg hole while also being off axis, pure skill.
Gorgeous craftmanship, filming and final product!
Mesmerizing in sight and sound… “no words” can explain…. Universal (no language barrier)…The distillation of craft into pure art. The quintessence of SOF building. Thank you!
30 years as a finish carpenter...Id work with this person anytime! Top notch craftsmanship!
I think I would like the frame to hang in my home. Nice piece of functional art.
Your attention to detail and perfection is amazing. I've always wanted to build either a kayak or canoe, but life got in the way! Now I'm almost 76, live on a beautiful lake in Texas. I have the time now, but due to military service in Vietnam, I'm too disabled to tackle a project like this. Thanks for sharing your skills. I'm very impressed with your skills.

I wish you a good 2023. Living by a lake, that sounds good. In our kayak club, there's a man with hardly any long capacity left. Pedling on the river is too much. Still, he bought two tiny sailing boats, and during summer we go to a small lake, once or twice a year. Sailing takes maybe half an hour, but who cares? He can be on the water for a while, and that is what's counting.

Wecome home, Brother ! I'm 76 1/2, spent some time in the Tonkin Gulf Yatcht Club on the biggest boat, made it home in pretty good shape. If I lived in Texas, I'd love to help you, and we'd git 'er done. Anyways, welcome home, and I hope you get on the water, like voornaam's talking about.

I'm not a boat wright I have built a two man Folbot from a kit. It was my Zen time, this is a whole different level, you understand your materials. I learned more in 17:40 about Kayak building then I have in 35 years since I built my Folbot. Thank you
Really nice build there girl. I love watch makers like u build from scratch with ur bare hands. When I was a young kid growing up in IRELAND we had this programme on TV called Hands. The shows were about ppl in the area who were building things with their hands, hence the name of the show. U had arts and crafts type makers but we saw old men and women building boats for fishing and these boats used some form of covering like this too. I think the reason most of the characters were older in age is bcos these skills had been dying off in the local communities bcos of emigration and such. The fishermen needed the boats to be light frame builds for speed I suppose? I really enjoyed this video. NO MUSIC, JUST REAL SOUNDS OF THE WORKSHOP WHICH IS HOW IT SHOULD BE TBF. I look forward to seeing ur next one soon. TBH I only found ur channel this morning and after enjoying this one I SUB'D & LIKED. Take care and keep making great content like this one. Enjoyed it very much..
I love to see craftsmanship at that level... soothes the mind by just watching it..
Beautiful, you’re both beautiful. Best music ever, couldn’t pick your accent. Tasmanian? No, I really enjoyed this episode, thank you 🙏

Absolutely fantastic!
What a great quality video! Liz makes building that boat look easy! Wow fantastic crafteswomanship!! The color is cool too. Also to Brian's credit the way he lays out the course it is very easy and super fun! I built my first F1 a couple of months ago following his course to the tee and mine came out awesome too! (But not as good as Liz's I am sure lol.) I loved the build so much I started building another boat a week before I finished the first one. Haha! But this time I wanted to add my own custom touches and design elements. The funny thing is by doing my own thing that I painted myself into some corners that I didn't see coming. In the first build Brian navigates you though the obstacle course without you realizing it. haha! With that said they weren't anything I couldn't overcome (its is only wood after all.) Anyway I am about finished with the fame on my custom boat and I a super excited to see how it paddles compared to the stock version. (hopefully I didn't screw up the performance too bad.) With that said I was totally surprised at how well the F1 paddles!!! It's amazing! (My experience is I have been paddling sea kayaks for about 10 years and have had quite a few from well known sea kayak brands over those years including a very high end brand.) I think if I still had all the boats I've owned I bet Id still choose the F1 to paddle most of the time over the others for day paddles. I highly recommend that you take this course if you have any interested at all in woodworking and kayaking! This type of woodworking is so enjoyable and relaxing. And when you finished you have a killer performance boat! (I'd love to build another after this I have more ideas I want to try but where am I going to put it? humm? I might have to sell my fiberglass boat?lol)
Thank you for the effort to make this video. I'm nearly finished with a small skiff after two months of steady work and I can't imagine how much time it would take to document all the steps, especially in a presentable manner and then do all the editing. Kudos
Amazing! Thanks for posting!
Such craftsmanship
