I’m always interested in your videos, from arcane measuring to fishing adventures. Ramble away! Many people’s fully prepared lectures aren’t as good as your off-the-cuff ones.
Brian, before building an F1 and the CF Canoe, I built a SOF Greenland from the Morris book using anthropometric measurements. It’s a great paddle. It would be interesting to compare survey data to your LPB.
I enjoyed this video too - thank you for shooting and posting it. One question: how would you measure the positions of the ribs of a skin boat? That would seem to be a bit tricky with the skin on!
I enjoyed it. I learned some details I didn’t understand in the past. Thank you.
Super interesting! ...and very clever! Thanks! 🙂
That was a really well executed presentation. I've been wanting to take an out of production composite boat that I own and reproduce it with a marine ply doorskin veneer core. However, curves tend to be more challenging than chines. Interesting to hear that you're considering fuselage design. More builders means more paddlers means more stewards. If lighting and sound were cause for not doing anything, most people would never get out of first grade. The message and information came across well.
I'm always wondering about your F1, if it could be translated to stitch and glue panel construction. Because, y'know, bulkheads. Has anyone ever tried it, or is it even something you would be ok with?
I’m really not sure. I think someone tried it a while ago and told me that the panels couldn’t handle the twisting of the planes. But I doubt that they did a precise survey like this. And also it’s possible that the design could be changed to work with that technology and still perform the same, but I’m just not sure.
I'mm 300lbs, and over 6', do you have a kayak for me?
Amazing info! Thanks from Argentina
Very solid, thanks for sharing 👍
Perfection 👍
Awesome… how about a nice Baidarka design ? I’d purchase some plans for sure.
Unfortunately I've never made a Baidarka design because I started with baidarkas, nd after building 7 of them I gave up because I couldn't build one I actually enjoyed paddling. That's how I got into building modern boats out of skin on frame. They are really cool looking boats though!
@@capefalconkayak Thanks for the response. I like them, and I have paddled one that was a sort of hybrid ( widened through the mid section, had a bit of chine ) and it was quite stable and fun to paddle. Maybe one day you’ll come back to them …. Thanks.
Damn nice catch Brian! I would toss that in the pan too. Never heard of a tiger trout either. A good friend of mine swears by that type of rod. Never tried one myself.
Absolutely amazing! The craftsmanship is superlative. I'm an amateur boatbuilder, but I just do stitch and glue or chine log method. This is definitely above my pay grade! Also I really like the music; what and who is it?
Not at all, this is wayyy easier than stitch and glue. This is a 60hr build and the woman in the video had never built one before. Two years ago a 12 year old girl built one and did everything herself but the tablesaw work. You can see her build on our site on the Student Builds page!
I want to make one of these so badly
If you actually catch a fish you're not doing it wrong.
Great! Very well explained!
Beautiful video and beautiful work!! Nice and great job!
Seriously awesome.
Wonderful outline of tools...
Hi, Brian. Great update video. Thank you so much. Always love your dedication to this and helping us out with our build!
I only used hand tools when building my greenland paddle, I used a pull saw and a scrub plane, it's a real workout but working with a scrub plane is really satisfying! You can also make a scrub plane out of any old plane by just rounding the blade, that worked well for me!
👏👏👏
Admire your cool work ❤regards from Tokyo.
so cool but I want to see you actually sail it man!
♥♥♥
Beleza❤
How much would it normally cost in materials to build a canoe like this?
The canoe itself is about $650 in materials, but the pedal drive costs almost $1000, and the inflatable outrigger is pretty pricey as well. I love the whole set up and it’s allowed us to do some amazing things but if you don’t need that extra functionality, obviously you can save a lot of money on your build.
Ok thanks
@@capefalconkayak what type of outrigger is that?
Absolutely beautiful poetry in motion...no annoying music, or ridiculous voice over...True craftsmanship at its finest ❤🎉
What is that fabric
This video, and other recent ones while they were in Mexico, are so inspiring... enticing me to get outside and enjoy the beauty. On days I can't get out to immerse myself in nature, I can vicariously enjoy the beauty of the outdoors through Brian and Liz's adventures.
정말 멋지네요. 꼭 만들어보고 싶습니다. 자료를 공유해주셔서 감사합니다.
Damned fine fish and a perfect one to bonk.
Nice fish! Anyway you can get a fish in is doing it the right way. That said here are a couple tips on tenkara technique. Keep rod arm close to body with elbow bent. Bring fish closer by bending wrist and elbow to point the tip of the rod behind you. Adjust as needed.
Thanks Joel
Well done!
Why dont you use respectabele side fins ?
I’m not sure I understand what you mean?
You're really good at doing it wrong, keep it up and thanks for the video.
Hallo Liz and Brian, Nice Catch.... German Trout.. Looking forward for the Sailing boat Regards from Germany
Beautiful craftsmanship!!!👍
i'am born in ALGERIA in the 50 ...a beach was named CAP FALCON .....what mémories of the kid i was .....
Very Cool!
No. It was not her first time. She is well trained. And jigged up. Complete shop set up to do exactly what she was doing. Why lie?
It’s not a complicated workshop, just a pair of sawhorses, and a 2’ x 8’ piece of three-quarter inch plywood with a couple two by fours screwed to the bottom sitting on sawhorses for a workbench. The rest is just common handtools with a few exceptions, and the larger shop tools for the prep work can be borrowed or rented. I taught people how to do this professionally for 15 years and so in the videos I break things down into bite-size pieces where you just have to watch a 10 minute video and then copy the work and then go onto the next 10 minute video. if the work looks exceptionally clean in this video it’s because most of the steps are done many times over and I videoed every moment of the process and then shows the very best example of each step to make the video look nice and clean. So yes, this is her first time. It’s not hard. Couple years ago a 13-year-old girl built one of these doing every bit of the work except for cutting the wood on a tablesaw. I hope this answers your question.
@@capefalconkayak and it was not your first time. Those two words made it sound like you were going to do it for the first time. That's all.
@@Court-fl8ck I am the person who owns the business and designs these boats and teaches classes for how to build them (mostly online). The woman in the video is a first time builder who has never built one of them before. I videoed her build to show people the process. So yes, it was her first time building. Hopefully that makes things clear.
whats the formula for the lengths of the ribs
I designed the formula for these boats, but it’s not something I could explain in a comment. There are many variables that change, depending on how you want the boat to perform and also what size the boat is. All the information is in our skin on frame, canoe building video course and plan set. Feel free to email me with any questions.
This isn't a step-by-step guide!
low brace definitely saved me quite a few times from going in, practice it!
Gostei muito
Would the same principle with yew wood .the dark / light wood for the compression like a bow and arrow bow.
Super end result. I loved the small fore sail.
Bravo!
