Hey ive been riding DKl griptape for 3 years now, i have found the new version of Dkl griptape (gen 7) is more grippy and will last longer. QUICK TIP FOR ANYONE WITH THE GRIPTAPE. WHEN SETTING UP, ALWAYS INSET 1/4 INCH THEN FILE DOWN TILL THE GRIPTAPE EDGE IS CLEAR, IF THE GRIPTAPE EDGE IS NOT CLEAR, IT WILL PEAL.

I tried DKL rubber grip tapes for a couple of months. They save your shoes, but get dusty and slippery quite fast. In the end I went back regular grip tape. I skate mostly transition and prefer grippy feeling on my board.

  • @YourGenericBrownGuy

since i first started skating ive only ever used rubber grip tape and i havent had any issues because i learned how to skate with the less grippyness. But when i used another persons board with normal griptape it felt soooo much more grippy like i was overflipping like crazy, and the other person tape was pretty worn in. I think if you get used to rubber griptape it will be fine and worth the pros of like saving your shoes, and having grippy shoes is a good idea, ive only ever used the Last Resort AB VM001's which are one of the more grippy skate shoes out there.

You gotta use a metal file to clean up the edges. I'm into a month of skating the newest batch of DKL grip myself, and they are okay in a dry setting. In areas that rain regularly, I don't think it's viable. I have a homie who got me on the dkls, and he puts regular griptape on the outskirts of his deck. Now I know why lol

I just set up a fresh board with this stuff and its hard to tell the difference between regular grip tape, but idk if I'm going to stick with it. I thought it'd be good because I'm just starting back skating and mostly practicing nothing but ollies and kickflips, but shoe goo rebuilds the rubber on my shoe pretty decently. I half assed the application so I'll see if it starts peeling. Edit: I removed it after a day. I pour sweat. I still have a second sheet if I ever want to try again, but as a beginner I want as much consistency as possible so I can be confident.

The rubber grip tape sucks when it's cold. It gets super stiff and doesn't grip. I had to constantly clean the dust off. If the conditions are all good it's not bad and will actually save your shoes. If you wanna save the artwork on your board, then it's time for some rails. It's worth it.

@@seanbrownskating Awesome. I like how you demoed the rubber tape. I been thinking about trying it myself on a set up. I was just amazed that the people knew you from KZread Vids. You clearly can skate. And by your style you're not that old. I'm 56 and grew up skating with people like Natas and Mark G. Your generation blows us away. We used to think of Ollie's as tricks, not fundamentals. Recently the company I was getting my boards from SMA stopped production? I like boards with a shape, but not old school. Like round in back, square in front, with nice concave, 8.25. I try to stay current myself and encourage guys my age to give up the old school set ups and try some new tech. Doesn't always make me popular, but I'm an OG here, one of the last left standing. Anyway I decided to go nostalgia recently and went on Powell's site to see what they had. I immediately spotted out this board called the Baby Heron flight deck and knew it was me instantly. I never even heard of Andy Anderson until then. I don't really follow other skaters. Anyway this kid comes up to me at the beach, with the same board, wanting to check my set up out and try it? First I told him no to trying it. I said It was brand new and I wanted to break it in myself first. His friends were laughing. Kid turned out to be Andy, and of course I let him demo my board for me. I've see him around since and despite our start he's cool people. About five years ago I was skating with this little 9 year old girl in the snake run at Venice. She was ripping me up, and pretty soon I was competing with a nine year old girl. I couldn't figure out what was going on...The girl turned out to be Sky Brown the Olympian, obviously before the Olympics. She had no pads and was doing big things. That's what I meant about the celebrity status you received. I get to skate with famous skaters all the time and don't even notice...I have no doubt you are a good person. Maybe we'll meet up one day. I'm planning on an East Coast trip soon. I've never been there. Also I consider myself more of an urban skater. That's street with out the freestyle to me...
