First recorded by the Everly Brothers in July 1960, the song is most well known in two hit versions by UK artists; by Scottish hard rock band Nazareth in 1974 and by English singer-songwriter Jim Capaldi in 1975.

Love my Scottish Naz as well. Was hooked on them when I was young. Didn't realize till I was older why. Those damn Scottish tribal drums Darrell snuck in there just lit me up😂😂❤Manny making that guitar sing😂Pete playing some kickass bass😂and Dan❤oh Dan could make your heart melt with his Ballards or rock your ass off with those vocal capabilities ❤😂love this band. Dan in my top 5 vocalists of all time. Thanks. Enjoy this epic song.

One of the greatest bands I've ever got into. Hair Of The Dog came out in 1975. This was their top 40 hit and a cover to boot. I have been listening to them since 1972. They never disappointed EVER!

This song was one of my late Mothers favorite song. She bought this on a 45 " Record, and on the other side was the song Hair of the Dog. It's hard to listen to it and not think of her. R.I.P. Mom 🙏🏼. I love and miss you.

Nazareth were from Scotland, formed in 1968 and broke big in the 70's... Dan McCafferty (vocals) sadly passed away in 2022 😪 He had to leave the band for health reasons by 2014. The original Nazareth debuted in 1971 w/ Dan McCafferty (vocals), Manny Charlton (guitar), Darrell Sweet (drums) & Pete Agnew (bass) ... Both Manny Charlton and Darrell Sweet have since passed away as well... Bassist Pete Agnew is the only original member today. Nazareth's only platinum record in the USA was 'Hair of the dog' in 1975... 'Love hurts' was a cover of The Everly Brothers and became one of their biggest hits... The song 'Hair of the dog' was also a hit and was covered by Guns N' Roses... Britney Fox... Nazareth was actually very popular in Canada. The band has released 25 studio albums to date... their latest being 'Surviving the law' in 2022 w/ vocalist Carl Sentance.

Yes, we've lost a great singer! I grew up listening to Nazareth and many other rock bands ! ,,,,,, REST WELL SIR!!!

The Everly Brothers originally did this song in 1960 and Roy Orbison covered it in 1961. Nazareth's version is the most well known and arguably the most popular.

I remember back in the 70s with my hot rod flying down the road with Nazareth blasting.. good times!

Bought this album back in '75 while in college. Great times.

"Love Hurts" came from their 1975 album "Hair of the Dog" - a great album. Also check out 2 other tracks from that album "Miss Misery" & the title track "Hair of the Dog".

I saw them open for Deep Purple in 1975 touring for this album Hair Of The Dog! It was my 1st concert!

This came out when I was in junior high...It became everybody's anthem to help them deal with their first heartbreak...We'd listen to it and think we were really wise now...Really one of the all time great vocal performances...

Yep, Lulu was right about playing it on the school sound system. When she mentioned the seven hallway break-ups, I immediately flashed back to my junior high days in the late 70s and realized nothing changes that much at high school after all.

They wrote some of the most beautiful ballads ever. “Love Hurts” is possibly the first ever power ballad.

Yes I knew “Love Hurts” was a cover but they wrote a lot of their own great ballads. “Sunshine”, “Moonlight Eyes”, “Hearts Grown Cold”, “You Shot Me Down”, “Dream On”, etc.

RAZZAMANAZ was the first LP I bought.. i was 12 yrs old .. awesome band..

One of the 70s best hit makers. I'd think everybody knows this treasure.

Oh Lulu you would have loved living in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. With all that great “luscious” hair. 🤘 I played drum back in the day and had a ton of hair, then got married and had 4 kids Now I have barely any hair Hahaha 😂

Good one. Lulu would love so many Metal musicians that were around back in that era. I took a chance on Nazareth "Hair of the Dog." Ending up with owning every album they had out. I love their cover of "Shapes" by David Bowie. 0:17, Lulu almost looked like her avatar.

Loved Nazareth concerts back in the 80s - although 90s sucked. Over-paid for tickets to a *Road House Biker Bar Nazareth Show* and they came out very late, preformed one song and said: "We Love You, Good Night!"

Nazareth was great. Especially this song.

Nazareth were a great Scottish rock band with Dan McCafferty on vocals a fellow Scot. Hair of the Dog is a brilliant album.They do a fantastic version of Joni Mitchell's This Flight tonight '

This is an awesome song, loved it way back when and still loving it now.😊

High school flashback here. Had this on 8-track, I believe, back in '75.

Hair of the dog is also a famous one of theirs. It was used for some athletes intros and football teams.

got to see them at aloha stadium Hawaii in 77, the only good thing about being based in Hawaii for 3 Yrs. was that they had a concert almost every month I got to see a lot of the big 70s bands for cheap cause we got military discounted tickets.

I call out my family on artists and songs also! Papa and I need to play name that tune with classic songs 👍

Nazareths album Play N The Game is a album you should listen to. Every song on it is fantastic.

The song came out while I was in grade school, many of the people in my area thought it was Aerosmith. It didn't take long to find out though,lol.....

I spotted that Donna knew this song from the opening notes with her hand gestures. This was really emblematic of the times. If it wasn't a number one hit, everyone knew it. In a similar vein I recommend you listen to Pavlov's Dog's songs: Julia; and, Standing on the Natchez Trace.

One of the greatest songs ever written and played - Naz were sadly a very under rated band.

I had a Narazeth tour poster on my wall.

8:08/Lulu, baby girl...this band was on a German television 📺 show...that's why the host was taking German!!

The album was called Hair Of The Dog.

I had no idea how many people had covered this phone until I looked on Wikipedia. It's been around forever.

Nazareth are from Scotland , check out Broken Down Angel or their cover of Joanie Mitchell's THIS FLIGHT TONIGHT .

Saw them in 1977 at the auditorium theater Chicago blew reo speedwagon out of the building

They are a great band live. Saw them with Thin Lizzy in 78 or 79 and saw them at a bar in the 90's, but they didn't have Manny playing guitar. They were still great. They have alot of really good songs like Miss Misery, Hair of the Dog, This Flight Tonight, No Mercy, Razamanaz, and many more.

That is what I loved about the Seventies. Everyone had dreamy hair. If your hair wasn't down to at least your shoulders that was considered short hair.

This song was written by Boudleaux Bryant, who also wrote a ton of songs (with wife Felice) including Rocky Top, Bye Bye Love, Wake Up Little Suzie, among others. Originally performed by the Everly Brothers.

Even though I’ve heard all three versions of the song, I like this one best, and it’s true for me that love can hurt, because it’s happened to me many times

Nazareth is a Scotish hard rock band, and you wouldn't know it from this song, but they usually rock hard. Love Hurts is a cover. I could be wrong, but I think the Everly Brothers first performed this song back in 1960. Try reacting to the title track from this album: Hair of the Dog.

You ladies should do the title track Hair Of The Dog. Dan played the bagpipes for the solo when I saw them at the Capital Center in Largo Maryland.
