They were super talented and they were just kids. Alexi was still 19 when he/they composed this album, probably even when they recorded it. Their music was so different from anything else I had heard, and these melodies got me hooked right away. And Jaska Raatikainen has always been one of my favorite drummers.

I think he was 26 when it was released. Born in '79, and the album was released in 2005.

@@nedbog The Hatebreeder album was recorded between December 1998 - January 1999 and it was released 4th of May 1999. Alexi was born 8th of April 1979.

@@NightwishArena you are correct, got confused by the release of a deluxe edition, which was in 2005. Preety complex stuff for a 19 year old.

@@nedbog indeed, and they actually played that stuff very well at live, usually drunk and even faster...and he sang too. And their first album was not that much easier. It was recorded July-August 1997. He started playing violin at 7 years old and switched to guitar at 11. He has also played piano for a while. Too bad all that booze and injuries took away the sharpest edge from his playing, and I think he never got back to that level he was in early 00's. But he was still loved by many, and respected by artists from any genre. For example the World Champion digital accordion player Netta Skog just recently posted about Alexi on her social media.
Follow the Reaper and Hatebreeder are the two best metal albums EVER. RIP Alexi! ❤ It's metal but those songs are so full of happy melodic riffs, an incredible experience listening to them.
Oh yes, yes, yes! Green album is a masterpiece. Hatebreeder, Children of Bodom and of course those three massive songs which were almost always in their live set list: Silent Night, Bodom Night , Towards Dead End and Downfall.
Old school Bodom is the best Bodom ✌️

Hatebreeder (the song) is perfect. 4 1/2 mins of 13 differenerent riffs and just purse metal madness. Perfect.
I was so lucky to here this played live where I was 20 metres away from the band. I had never heard it played live in any video. It is still in the top 3 cob fans I was so awestruck and honoured. You will only understand if you love this band like I do

20m is close, but nothing unusual. They have played in pubs and night clubs, so that 20m could be out in the streets. :P I've saw them play less than 10m away. Kind of... They were not CoB yet. :D
Me first true metal band was Bodom and I was in first row without any ear protectiong... Me ears did ring like week or two after it... 11/10, wouldn't change anything!

Best band ever
Alexi was a master! 🤘😎 His accent is pretty heavy though especially this early on, so even if you know the words it's hard to understand. I'm here for the instruments and the vibe anyway. Hatebreeder is my favorite album, but they don't have a bad album, so I'm looking forward to more.
