In Germany there is a saying for children. It means „Messer, Gabel, Schere, Licht - sind für kleine Kinder nicht.“ ("knife, fork, scissors, light - are not for small children.") Because you can hurt yourself with it. I am German and as a child I often heard this saying from my parents. Rammstein changed the saying a bit. And now it's the adults who inflict the pain on themselves.

The line 'needle, string, scissors ,light' is a reminiscence to 'knife, fork, scissors, light' from Heinrich Hoffmann's Struwwelpeter (Shockhead Peter) and shows Till's affinity to classic German lyrics and fairy tales.

That old dude walking backstage when till went there after his face 'melted' is one of their actual roadies from pretty much the start of their history.

I felt like when his face started melting that it might represent the fact that you can do all you want to make yourself look younger and fit......but growing old is inevitable so you might as well embrace the life you have now. And the song just talks about the obsession with mutilating our body just to fit in......but then again it I could always be wrong lol

I personally think that is a part of it, but it also shows the drawbacks and unnatural look of going overboard with plastic surgery. Look at some "beautiful" Hollywood stars who almost mutilated themselves with plastic surgery. I think everyone can think of a star that looks completely fake and due to surgery horrible in old age and worse than people that aged normally. There is of course the element of female actors not getting good roles, because they are "too old" which is another problem that feeds into it in that case.

Funfact, that old guy on 6:25 is the roadie, who is there from the first gig they played. The Band put him into that video to show himm honor he is still their roadie .

Rammstein is authentic and have a "take no prisoners" approach. They don't care and always push the boundaries I just love them.

Rammstein is my favorite band of all time. They started in 1994 and still have all original band members. I very much appreciate all members input in every song whether it's Till's amazing vocals, Richard's bad ass guitar playing and Paul's awesome rhythm on guitar, Ollie slappin' the hell out of the bass, Christoph "Doom" drumming and bringing the noise, and Flake absolutely putting it all together with his keyboard/synthesizer making us go "WOW, I didn't think it could get any better. It just did."

i don't know if you heard about how Rammstein decides witch songs they do and witch not. Every member of Rammstein has a vote. If only one says no to a song, they will not do it. I have a feeling Till did his solo project "Lindemann" just to present things that are to extreme even for Rammstein....so if you dive ever in the solo project "Lindemann" of the lead singer...be warned and aware of the fact that you are in for a even more extreme experience :)

When Till Walks off stage: "Are you serious? You know how this looks?! Fix this, immediately!" "Suck? What do you want to suck out there? That has to stick!" As a german, i love your reaction!

Personally the message of fighting insecurity is relatable. Not because of age but being a guy in wheelchair with surgery scars and used to have bad acne now the scars. It has taken quite a while to accept myself as I am. Now at 22 I have no big problems.

I think most people who dislike Rammstein don’t understand what art is. Art is supposed make you feel something. It’s supposed to tell you some about yourself. Art is defined by our reaction to it. It doesn’t have to be a good one for it to be “art”. Just because Rammstein disturbs you, it doesn’t mean they’re tasteless or crude. It just means you had a negative reaction to an amazing piece of art.

I love the duality of Rammstein. You'll get masterpieces like Deutchland or Zeit & then off the wall stuff like this & Radio. Then whatever the piano version of Meine Hertz Brennt. Side note my dr is Vietnamese. She was talking about getting her eyes "fixed" so she looks more western & I got really sad cos she's perfect as is. She told me I was right & she didn't do it

I love at the end of the video how you emphasized Till's expressions in the mirror as he left the stage mid-performance in the music video, as he appeared to seemingly still be very unhappy and unsatisfied while gazing at his appearance, despite all of his modifications/work he had done on himself to make himself more "beautiful" or "ideal-looking." However, a key detail you may have missed is that after taking a glance at himself and his drooping face, Till hand gestures in a way that suggests the thought/feeling of "whatever" or "no problem," implying that he not only may believe the problem will be an easy fix like it's nothing, but more importantly, that this has probably happened to him before in the past and may even be a common occurrence in the guy's life. That being said, he seemed to be completely unphased by fucking stapling his face skin back together (or whatever that thing was- it looked like a stapler, or whatever it was it looked and sounded very painful); clearly accustomed to all the pain, suffering, and struggle in his endless and continuously failing journey towards creating an ideal physical image of himself. He is now forever stuck within and addicted to the cyclic feedback loop of altering himself in any aspects he appears flawed in, as he receives the short-term benefit of feeling better once the issue is resolved, until he inevitably notices another flaw in himself or something just goes completely and utterly wrong, as it did for Till's character in the music video. This cycle will seemingly never end for him now, since he has gone sucked too far in and has entirely wrecked himself whilst actually trying to benefit or help himself by improving his appearance, for the modifications he made to himself are all practically permanent. However, this most likely isn't even the guy's fault at all, because as you had also mentioned, various different forms of media / pop culture as a whole try to and often successfully convince us all that we need to make ourselves appear like certain people a certain way which is the "standard," and it is an absolutely wrong and disgusting concept that can very well cause the problems seen in this video, not only physically, but mentally/emotionally as well, as you had also mentioned you have felt in the past yourself. I absolutely love and have the utmost respect for Rammstein as well, so much so that they're probably my favorite band of all time, and I also believe that they sent out these beautiful messages with shining colors and in their own unique, creative, satirical and unapologetic style of musical and presentational artwork- and all of this for a band that doesn't even sing in my native language! Incredible! We should all indeed learn to love and accept our inevitably imperfect selves just the way we are (and yes- that's absolutely regardless of signs of aging/graying hair/wrinkles or skin tone/textures or the way we're built as individuals or whatever), and take all our good along with all our bad, while also learning to reject the inexcusably normalized societal standards that bring all of us down and practically benefit nobody.

Most people know Harald Glööckler (the bassist in this video), but the drummer is actually a tribute to the Bogdanoff brothers. They held scientific degrees in mathematics and theoretical physics, and, despite being highly intelligent and educated, succumbed to their obsession for plastic surgery. Both twins died this year just a few days apart from eachother.

Next album will be released this friday and the video for Angst.

The thing I love so much about rammstein is that they give a voice to those who are either too frightened, too embarrassed, or too oppressed to speak.

I love your reactions to Rammstein's songs (always so on point) and I love how you say Rammstein at the beginning. The new album Zeit is so amazing, I listen to it several times a day. Zickzack is phantastic as I hate how many people "destroy" themselves and that there is a trend to do this.

I love how you're just about to pause the song (5.48) to process that his face has started to decay, but you get overwhelmed by the powerful middle eight that comes out of nowhere and takes the song to new heights. I get goosebumps every time I hear that part. Brilliant song, brilliant analysis as always.

What I love about this is that all the members of Rammstein are in their 50's at least, these are older white German men who don't necessarily get the same pressure, but they want to platform and discuss this anyway. I think it's important to know that everyone can recognise the issues with body standards in the modern day and I love that they're bringing it to light in their usual satirical style.

For me as a translator, I just feel the urge to write some comments on the translation shwon in the video as some parts are a little off. It really makes understanding the message of the song harder if it weren't for the video. (For instance: "schöner" can mean "nicer" but given the context, it would be better translated as "more beautiful". And "bis ins Gehirn" means "(way) up into your brain" and while "kurz und knapp" most often means "in a nutshell", here it is meant to mean something like "as short as possible" (cut away all the unnecessary stuff) "vasculature" is completely wrong. (Gefräß, similar to "Fresse" is a word for "face" but with a rather negative connotation similar to "shit face" or "ugly face") The line with the penis is wrong too. It should be "Your/My penis is seeing (the) sun AGAIN" (if you wanna omit the problem with the "the/my/your" thingy when translating from German to English sometimes using "with a" is good --> "with a penis able to see some sun again"/ a penis that can see some sunshine again (in a song like this, it isn't so important to know whose penis it is. The important part is that it was covered by belly fat and now, that the fat is cut away, the penis is happy that it can see some sunshine again. And the part with the penis being able to feel emotions is. of course, also on purpose as it gives that line a funny undertone.)

The body you were given is perfect. You can change it through healthy management. But adding chemicals and surgeries will make you look alien and invoke a repulsive response i n the general pop. Understand the Uncanny Valley.
