Hey Cliff, "Ich tu dir weh" translates to "I hurt you", which this song is all about. If you listen to the song the first minutes, you got the impression it is about an extreme S/M relationship, because Till is telling what he does to another person and this other person loves him for that. But as always with Rammstein, there is more. The key is in the lyrics in the calm part of the song: You are the ship, I am the captain, where should this journey go? I see your face in the mirror, you love me because I don't love you. I hurt you, I don't feel sorry about it, it's good for you, hear him scream! So, the song is all about HIMSLEF and perhaps a fight within. This one line changes it all: is he really hurting himself, perhaps as a result of a psychic disorder? Or is it more metaphoric, like an inner fight with another part of his personality? Much room for interpretation, brilliant writing!

I would ignore the whole controversy at this point. I think social media is playing a role in making it a thing, and I feel like it will pass with time. I guess we will see. As for the music. It stands the test of time, some dating back to the early 1990’s and still relevant. I also love that they have chosen over the years to only write songs in German when they could have done differently to appease a huge percentage of their Fanbase that resides in non-German speaking countries.

Yea the controversy turned out to be yet another wave of fake accusations and now the girls who accused them are being investigated lol. Rammstein is pretty much cleared from any controversy. The only thing people still dont like which is apparently true is Till doing private parties where he tries to pick out and have sex with girls that are there. Imo till shouldnt do that but since its still all on a consentual basis and everyone can leve whenever they like, i dont think its worth any controversy.

Saw them live 10 days ago. The shortest 2 hours of my life! Jumped up and down the whole time :-D

I would seriously recommend 'Sonne' and 'Amerika'. The live versions of both are great, but the videos produced for those songs are actually even better. The audio is fantastic anyway, but the visual presentation really adds to it.

A lot of people believe that this is about a sadomasochistic relationship and he is the one inflicting the pain, but When he sings "Ich seh’ im Spiegel dein Gesicht" " I see your face in the mirror" hints that the person he’s singing about is actually himself. I believe that the song is instead about self-harm and the pain and pleasure associated with it.

Its 100% about self harm. "Du blutest für mein Seelenheil" "You bleed for my mental health" He also uses "it" instead of "her" or "he" so he's probably singing about his body

Yes man... the music brings the people together... more than any Politician!

Among other things because of this song the "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da" (LIFAD) album was censored in Germany. It was not allowed to be advertised or sold to people under 18. In the end, however, it was a great advertisement for the album and Rammstein became the only band whose album was on the index and at the same time reached number 1 in the charts. I can’t wait for you to read the lyrics my dude!!! They’re…a doozy lol. I don’t wanna give anything away but all I can say is that it’s about a lot more than what you’ll read. Like with most of Rammstein’s lyrics, there’s the face value meaning, the double speak meaning, and the metaphorical meaning. They’re provocateurs, so just keep that in mind. Other recommendations: Engel (live Madison Square Garden) Mien Herz Brennt (piano version) Deutschland Zeit Zig zak Angst Kiene Lust For pretty much all of these, I think it would be totally ok to have lyrics up during the reaction. Especially for a band like Rammstein. Or at least dig into them after watching the video. I think it would be really cool to see you decipher them when the song is still fresh and you still can still go back through certain parts of the video to lay out the context. I think that would be a really cool thing to watch you do, especially considering your background. As to the current controversy with Rammstein, it’s Till, not the band who is under scrutiny. I’m a firm believer that victims should always be treated as victims even if it turns out on the back end that they aren’t. But that doesn’t mean automatically taking what they say as un-refutable truth. It could be their truth, but that can be different from objective truth at times. You can respect someone, believe them, and value their lived experience without jumping to conclusions about the person they’re accusing. To be the boring nerd: Flake (the keyboarder) has a coat made of the same material as fire suppression blankets. When Til "rises up" he takes off the coat and uses it as a blanket, having the sparkly outfit underneath. The sparks that rain down are relatively "cold", and go out the moment they touch anything. All the explosions go off directionally upwards, with shielding down below, and Flake got ear protection in anyway. Lastly, when Til is "coming back down" Flake uses the distraction to push the coat/blanket aside and ditch his boots.

Madison Square Gardens, we did have a mosh going, about *300-600* people off and on.... they didn't allow it in Paris, "No violence" rules. THINK about that.... it felt TINY compared to the number of people there, but REALLY wasn't even average, it was LARGE. heh

The current drama w the band is a travesty. These 6 nen have worked SO hard for their success...it's a pity that its ending this way. There were 2, provably *false* allegations of sexual assault against Till. They are being cancelled rt now by ppl who don't know what they are talking about. Its complicated to explain...but nothing can dispute the talent and amazing music of Rammstein! **Reactor Tip: there are 2 channels that have Rammstein videos (lives) with hand-added English subtitles. Nothing is proven false yet. Dont talk BS here in the comments. The music is great but Till do not seem to age very well. At least some of the allegations will turn out to be true and if that happens you need to be a dickhead to ignore the fact that Till has been a dickhead several times. But the music of the band is still great. Till brought it up on them. Even the band itself admit that they dont approve Till's actions. I was a die hard fan. Not so much anymore. Still holding on for some tickets for Berlin. I am not going with the same enthusiasm then to the other concerts.

@benedictmohr1075 There is no reason for you to call me a dickhead or claim that my *opinion* is BS... my take on the situation may be different than yours but that doesn't make it's BS...and comment sections are exactly the proper place to give an opinion! I worked in the music industry for 25yrs, including on Rammstein's 1st 3 US tours. I know that the guys are hard workers who would never allow anything like what's being alleged, to happen at their shows. I also know that Till has been known to have some "bad behavior" on his Lindemann tours...but that doesn't mean he's drugging and assaulting women. I've seen video footage of the 1st accuser, taken *after* she claims she was drugged, and she only appeared drunk, not incapacitated, as she claimed. The 2nd named accuser has said, on the record, that she was NOT assaulted...she just "felt a vibe"...that is also, not an assault. These things are *provable facts*, whereas there are zero *proven crimes* being alleged. That said, I support any woman or man who has been assaulted...but I also consider all of the facts surrounding their statements, b4 I form an opinion. We, as fans, can never 100% know what things may have happened to others. But to "cancel" the entire band, or even just Till, without proof of crimes, is wrong. (By this I mean that no police reports of assaults have been filed, to my knowledge) I've been nothing but respectful of your opinion, and not called you names, or claimed that you are spreading BS... please afford me the same respect. And I hope you do go and enjoy their concert....they are a great band!

I just ment the part where you said that the allegations are provable wrong. Thats not right at all. The prosecutor's office just started the investigations. Christoph Schneider himself spoke up for himself and the band and disctance himself from Tills behavior. They try to fix everything but in my honest opinion I think Till is very sus and I believe he did at least some of the stuff he was accused for. Dont get me wrong: I think highly of him as an artist and I still admire their work. But these alligations need to taken seriously and many, many, many different women from different countries made similar experiences and their is now way they all lying or making this shit up. No one is talking about "canceling" by the way. This case need to be taken seriously and if the band and Till did nothing wrong then they should give any information and should be open about everything. I think Till had way to much power and got obsessed with it and didnt act responsible and to the intersts of his guests but only to his own interests. He needs to stand up for what he has done and taking responsibility for it, if he done this stuff. That would be classy at least. I know I am guilty on this one for pre-judging Till. But I cannot believe that this all is made up. So many sources are telling similar stories, from all over different countries. No way all of this is made up. It is way more likely that Till did at least some of this stuff.

I do agree w you that Till has probably done something, to some women...maybe.. But, yes... he IS being cancelled... his publisher dropped him and the band's label stopped promoting them *before* any investigation had begun... thats what I take issue with. I know it seems like a head-scratcher that ANY woman would make false accusations...but it does happen to (mostly) celebrities...these ladies get 15mins of fame, or money for interviews and such. We all want to take all allegations seriously, but I wish we could put down our torches until an *actual* crime is proven. Why am I skeptical? Bc of what Marilyn Manson has been thru. His accusers have retracted their statements, quietly faded away, and the 2 women who started the entire shitshow are being investigated for *federal crimes* they committed during their out of the blue hit job on a quiet and totally-unlike his stage persona guy. The women ALL lied! That's why I'm not upfront supportive of Till's accusers...bc people lie, for all kinds of reasons. That said... I am aware of the talk of "bad behavior" on the Lindemann tours...so there's likely some wrongdoing...just wish the public could wait for an actual conviction b4 crucifying Till.
