this was probably 8-9 years ago, at the beginning of their career. they have improved immensely over the years. they were monster rookies then & over time have cemented their title as the top vocalists in kpop. just in case you didn't know, Chen & Baekhyun were rivals during their auditions but eventually developed a friendship. since both of them are so talented, they got accepted together & luckily put in the same group together. thanks for reacting to EXO. will be waiting for more.

They were very young here, just beginning their career. If you say that you didn't know EXO can sing like this... Well, you should start watching their live performances, esp concert at Tokyo Dome or Seoul. EXO actually sound better live than in the studio recordings, they literally sell live performances CDs! All EXO can sing well, but the three main vocalists Baekhyun, Chen and DO are out of this world. DO's Tell me what is love (remix) is just so powerful, you teleport to another planet.

This is still a jaw-dropping performance until now Chen's voice is so powerful and goes so well with rock songs. Check out his solo songs "Up raising" and "Watch out" and EXO song called "Drop that" if you are interested in.

In the fact this video is only 1 years after exo debut, their vocal quality are insane

I am a BTS stan, however, there are several talented groups and EXO is definitely within my top 3. Vocally, they have some of the most talented vocalist in all of Kpop, imo. This, and so many of their other live performances, completely blows my mind, no matter how many times I've watched them.

Can you believe that Chen's and Baekhyun's performance of "Really I Didn't Know" was from more than 9 years ago? So this was when EXO were first starting out, which just goes to show you what amazing vocalists Chen and Baekhyun have always been. Immortal Songs 2 is a weekly singing competition show where Idols and famous singers go on the show and compete against each other to be voted the best performance of the show by the audience. Each week there is a theme and most of the time the theme has something to do with a famous older well known singer, group, composer or artist or a specific genre or era of music, and all the songs are remixed covers of songs from the artist that is featured as the theme of that week's show. For instance, they have even done English weeks where the theme of the week is Michael Jackson songs or Michael Bolton songs and all the singers who competed on that episode sang Michael Jackson songs or Michael Bolton songs. (Michael Bolton was even on the show to critique the performances.) So the point of the show is to take a famous old song and to remake it into something new and amazing or to blow the audience away with your vocal talent. Each singer or duo or group goes on the show and competes against all the other guests on the show and the audience votes for whomever they think had the better performance. And every performance is 100% live so they always have a live band or orchestra. Each performance is given a numerical score depending on how many times the audience pushed the "thumbs up" button. The person with the highest score becomes the winner of the show that week and takes home a trophy. Immortal Songs 2 is a show a lot of Idols go on when they are first starting out to help gain popularity and recognition for themselves and their group. What makes this show unique is it's a show with singers and artists across the spectrum of ages and musical genres -- artists such as Chen and Baekhyun who are famous Idol singers in their 20s could be competing against a famous rock 'n' roll singer or band who could have been in the industry for 20 years, etc. And not only are the artists who compete diverse, but so too is the audience -- Immortal Songs 2 is very popular across all age demographics, from teenagers who love Idol Kpop music to grandparents that listen to traditional Korean music. It spans all generations -- teens like the show because they get to see their favorite Idols and grandparents like the show because most of the time the guests cover older classic songs that they love and grew up on, etc. The show is all about impressing the audience with your performance and it's a really big honor to win. However, can you believe, that even as impressive as Chen's and Baekhyun's performance was, they didn't win that episode? I'm pretty sure they won their round, which means they beat the person they were going directly up against, and they might have beat the next one or two people to compete that week, but over all they didn't outscore everyone on that show that day. I can't remember who ended up winning -- it's been so long since I have seen the whole episode -- but they must have had a really fun and/or impressive performance to top what Chen and Baekhyun did. 😄 The guy with the sunglasses is another one of the contestants/singers on the show and he is backstage waiting for the results. I think he was the one that Chen and Baekhyun went up against to win their first round. The lady with the fluffy hair that you saw grooving to the song was the featured artist, composer, songwriter, etc. ( I can't remember exactly who she was) that was the theme of that week's show and she gave feedback after each of the performances. If I remember right, this song is a really famous old Korean song, which was originally sung by a woman and she is singing to and about her love that she has been separated from. It's about how during the Korean War, North and South Korea were divided and when that happened couples and families were separated. Some North Koreans escaped and went to South Korea, while others stayed behind. North Korea is a dictatorship, and because of the ongoing war between the two sides, people who are living in North Korea have no contact with South Korea. In 2018 North and South Korea had a meeting day (not sure if that is what it is called ) and North Koreans were able to meet and talk to their South Korean family members for 5 minutes at the border between the two countries. I read a story about a man that was brought over to South Korea as a baby during the war by his parents. While they were escaping they got separated and the mom was left in North Korea and the son and father made it to and lived the rest of their lives in South Korea. They hadn't seen or spoken to the mom since the day they were separated. During the meet up day the son, who was now 75 years old, got 5 minutes to meet his mother, who was in her 90s, for the first time since he was a young boy. So this song is a very sad and beautiful song that showcases the vocal powerhouses that are Chen and Baekhyun's voices.

There's 2 videos that really highlight EXO's vocal abilities. The first one is their acoustic medley in Japan, however, because it is a concert and kind of has a backing track, you could be a little picky about it. There's another video called "EXO really said no mic, no problem". This video is a compilation of clips from a whole bunch of content throughout their career where they were not on stage and were mostly just chilling. I believe this would be the most raw and easiest to judge their talent!

The one in blue who looked so shocked is their band member Chanyeol, rapper, singer, composer, dancer. He hears these 2 everyday & is still amazed by their vocals.

Baekhyun and chen has been taking vocal lessons since they were kids, chen original aim was becoming a vocal coach while baekhyun was casted when he's about to audition for music university so they were trained, dunno classically or not. But they have good techniques since the begining, no straining, breath support and all

This song is "Really I Didn't Know" by Lim Hee-sook in 1980. This performance is from the television show Immortal Songs 2, where singers preform reinterpreted famous Korean songs in a competition style show where there is a winner every episode. Unfortunately they did not win (Idols don't commonly win) but this rendition is now legendary. Mamamoo has been on the show multiple times and won several of them, I would definitely recommend watching those or their "Immortal Song Medley."

As always, Exo just hits different. Thank you for reacting to them again! If you'd like to see more of Baekhyun's and Chen's vocals, I'd suggest checking out both of their most recent solo albums (Bambi and Last Scene respectively). They absolutely show off on both of these albums (and not just the title tracks, all the B sides are mind blowing) and it's unbelievable. As for more Exo stuff they've done as a group, I'd still suggest the live performance of Mama+Monster+Wolf, but also their live a cappella session from one of their concerts. And for more season-y content, Exo has put out a ton of winter albums, you should definitely check out Universe, Sing for me, and Miracles in December. Also also, please check out A.C.E, only the most underrated k-pop group to ever k-pop, trust me you'll love them!

Bit of trivia, this was for a Korean variety show where they sang a cover of a mega Korean hit and they competed against other people during the show (everyone covering songs) … they came representing EXO and they lost 😢 because (I shit you not 😀) their performance wasn’t showing enough emotions 😂😂 they’ve improved so much in the meantime. Wish they could cover that song now, they’d just slay even more

This performance gives me wave upon wave of chills because their vocals are insane and the passion in their voices is great! While BTS is my main, I can't deny that some groups have vocals that are next level and EXO is great! They have a performance where they sang a cover of "Open Arms" (by Journey) and the vocals are amazing there too.
