It’s a competition show called Immortal Song where artists (I think two per show?) reinterpret a different song by an established (older) artist. From what I could find about it ‘Really I Didn’t Know’ is from 1969 and originally sung by Lim Heesook. I believe you catch a glimpse of her (black hair, white shirt) at a judge’s table. Believe it or not, they didn’t win. I heard it was felt they were too young and inexperienced (with love and heartbreak) to fully portray the emotion behind the song. They actually asked them before they started singing if they had ever been in love and they said no, but they talked to some family members about it! EXO did another episode Immortal Song with most of the group performing ‘It’s Still a Dark Night’ by a different artist.

@@Killdeer25 turns out I’m totally wrong about how the show is set up. I figured out it’s episode 114. It’s broken out into three parts here on KZread and it seems like about 50 people are on each one 😂 I forgot it’s a chaotic variety show besides the performances. I can’t find it with subs, so I have no idea what’s going on!

For the longest time ever I refused to listen to kpop, or other music besides what came out on the radio here in the U.S. I was completely blown away when I discovered Exo. The vocals, the harmonies, the charisma, I have fallen in love with this amazing group. Through them I discovered Mamamoo, as well as other artists from around the world like Dimash, Marcelito Pamoy, Aurora, KZ Tandingan, and more. It's amazing how much raw and unique talent there is to be discovered out there if we just give it a chance.

EVERY TIME! Every time I see this performance I am on my knees crying. Not only because it is such an emotional song but the fact that these two at the time are 20-21 years old and the horror in their eyes to deliver this song correctly! Gosh I am soooo happy and relieved they performed so well😭

Seriously the greatest vocalists in kpop like how can you not love these men? Divine talent. This was very earlier in their careers and they're still improving til this day. Thanks for another reaction.

Woo Hoo!!! @mochimochi!!!!!!! 😁😁😁 So the story that I have heard, is that Baekhyun and Chen met each other when they were auditioning for SM and they each thought they wouldn't make it because they thought the other one was too good to beat. And they both were trainees for less than a year before debuting. And then they did this. And here we are 11 years later blessed to have the best vocalists of a generation in the same group. 😍😍😍

This show (Immortal Songs) is a competition, EXO entered it three times in their early days. This one, they decided to showcase two of their amazing main vocalists. It's like a knockout, a number of acts go up against each other, two at a time, the audience votes and the winner faces the next act until only one is left. Unbelievably, this did not even win the heat it was in. I think I remember the comments were that they were too young to be able to convey the emotions the song should have. It shocked me then and still does now. Not enough emotion! The only way this makes sense is if they couldn't think of any reason why it might not have won so they picked on something silly! I mean, they were young. Honestly! So much emotion! So much skill!

I totally think that thats crazy that someone young cannot convey emotion about love and heartache, like honestly. that doesnt make sense. it would be fun to watch some of these reality shows, sadly most get blocked or are hard to find

They both were about Six months after debut. So they are kpop vocal kings since day 1

Hi! Thanks for this. Just to impart w/ you, I was not a fan of Kpop at all. But during pandemic, due to so limited things to do, I started listening to a Kpop group (not EXO). However, when I chanced upon EXO, their vocals touched me the most. I find it so hard to listen to other Kpop groups w/out looking for that "EXO quality". So I don't anymore at all. I can say that I'm not a Kpop fan but proudly an EXO fan.

Gosh they were so young here. I hadn't heard this performance before. Thank you for sharing it. You could get lost in their voices here. At first I was thinking this was an EXO song, but the further I listened I realized it's probably a cover of an 80-90s Korean ballad. Something I really love about Korea is how much they appreciates ballads. We don't really appreciate this style of music here in the US anymore. As I get farther along in my kpop experience, it's the ballads I find I love the most. And while there is something lost not being able to understand the lyrics of a song like this, I think there is something to be said for that as well, as you get to appreciate the pure beauty of the song without getting overwhelmed by the meaning of it.

yeah I wouldve thought this is EXO, I guess thats the power of them, they own and turn everything they touch to gold, I am glad that you enjoyed this. I agree, I think that one of the biggest things thats missing from music in the US is this, emotion is kinda gone from our music. either its about money drugs or how awesome the person is, if not then its about anger.

I discovered EXO by accident. I started watching K drama ( Moonlovers) and was told one of the actors can sing really „good“! What an understatement! It began with Monster 2016 and I never left this fandom! They are always my first choice!
