Fourteen years ago, co-founders F-CHOPPER KOGA (Ba) and HANA (Dr. Vo.), established the first GACHAPIN lineup, which has morphed over the years, along with their evolving music. Later, OREO LEONA (Key. Vo.), was brought on board to replace the original front woman, ARMMY. Because the twin vocalists were rapped behind their instruments, two young dancers jointed to add a dynamic element to their stage show. More recently, they added pink-haired, teenage ANGELINA 1/3 ("Angelina San-bun-no-ichi" is "exactly 1/3rd Japanese, 1/3rd Spanish, and 1/3rd Filipina") as a youthful hype woman. Turned out she can sing, too. Most recently, they added the young drummer YURI, which enables HANA to move to the front of the stage and play guitar (they also have songs where both HANA and YURI play drums). That’s just part of the story. But to get started, try the following four-course menu for an introduction the world of GACHARIC SPIN. GACHAPIN’s frenetic concerts are legendary, but because there is so much going on in their songs, it’s recommended to listen to the studio recordings before enjoying the live performances. 1. JIUCY BEATS - MV, with the original lineup, including the extremely charismatic ARMMY. Strong Eurobeat vibe. - kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJtkw7ucYru5c8o.html - Live - more of a Rock sound - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ooOW0q9mfbHWhs4.html 2. SEKIRA LIAR - MV), post ARMMY. Hard rocking with a unique sound - (Red Naked Liar) - kzread.info/dash/bejne/doesm9xxiseqfZM.html - Live - with the new drummer, who enables Hana to move to the front of the stage and play guitar. - kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6B_2sOng8_aiMY.html 3. Instrumental (live) - A great introduction to the amazing guitar playing of TOMOZO - kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIx1pJpsopPSkrQ.html 4. I wish I - MV for the first track on their latest album (MINDSET is the second track). A song of unparalleled beauty. - kzread.info/dash/bejne/X4ZqsNSrj9LTmqg.html - Live footage with an excellent translation of the powerful lyrics - kzread.info/dash/bejne/oJx61cduiqXSfNI.html

A video you have to see is, “Tamashii,” live. It’s from their 10th anniversary tour in 2019. Two drummers play in the song, Hana and Yuri. The snares hit at the same time throughout the song. These ladies are fantastic musicians.

Gacharic Spin are so good, and if you like bass you'll love them because of their power-house bassist, and co-founder, F Chopper Koga! Their recently released MV for their track Kachi-Kachi Yama they are holding a reaction competition for with deadline of May 31st, if you go to their KZread channel they have a video with "GachaReact" in the title which contains all the details if you are interested :D They are also one of the best and most energetic live-acts around! It's also worth noting that the drummer in this video, Hana, is an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist. She was co-founder and original drummer when the band was formed in 2009, then she became drummer and singer after their first singer suddenly quit just before a tour back in 2012. Then back in early 2019 they hired Yuri on drums and Hana moved out front to play guitar and sing. Yuri however was off on maternity leave when the album MindSet is on was recorded, so Hana recorded the drums for it. They have two official live clips on their KZread channel of MindSet, one from around the time the MV came out with Hana drumming and singing, and one from after Yuri returned with Hana playing guitar and singing (she also adds wailing prog guitar licks over the instrumental section!)

Nice job! Gacharic Spin are their own deep rabbit hole. As more of a metal-head, one would think I wouldn't like them but they're one of my favorites. Their history, variety, skill and sense of fun make them more entertaining than most to me. Their live performances are over the top crazy. Just amazing performance artists. Oh and as an added bonus Tomo-Zo (guitar) wears a lot of bonnets!

First time hearing this band. I liked it, will have to check out more of their songs. Rick Beato recently posted an interview with Marty Friedman, who now mainly resides in Japan. Marty was asked the difference between the music scene in Japan vs. the US, and one of things he said is the very rich chord progressions that musicians come up with that allow for a lot of possibilities. Where in the US 4 chords may make up a song, but in Japan there would be 20 chords just to go through a turn-around. The other thing he mentioned is the acceptance and prominently featuring of distorted guitar in just about all genres of music. There are a lot more things he said, it's an interesting interview to watch. I couldn't believe I watched the whole 1+ hour interview. 😄

GSpin is one of the craziest bands out there. Mindset is a great song. They do progressive chaos as well as anyone. Their songs can be a bit hit or miss for me personally but there is no denying their talent and they are fun to watch. BTW the drummer and lead singer trade vocals a lot.

Great reaction Velcro “MindSet” was my favorite song of 2021. I can only suggest you to do their newer MV called “Kachi Kachi Yama”. Gacharic Spin (pronounced Gotcha-rik Spin, you got it right the second time) are doing a contest reaction for this MV. They will select someone from Japan and from overseas, and they will do a reaction to their reaction. Thank you

The school scene ending with Angie dumping her school supplies and cutting her hair and it is suddenly dyed pink is like a defiant declaration of her individuality here. Japanese schools have a very strict no-hair-dye policy and will harass even students whose hair is naturally another color than black, sometimes demanding a note from their doctor that it is natural. So the role she is playing is a girl who has become depressed and resentful at rules enforcing conformity. In the end she holds her finger up to her lips "shhh" asking the viewer's discreet silence regarding her, and dances away from the whole scene, free.

I just found this reaction--really fun. Here is some more background: GS started in 2009, with a lead singer called Armmy (Takae Ashitomi). They did a sort of highly technical punk-pop, but crossed genres a lot. They started to have friction between Armmy and the rest of the band, and then in early 2012 she left, officially for health reasons. She died in 2015; their work with her is very much worth seeing-here is an early one: “Setsunaku” kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJquq9ZrYMLeiMo.html The girls were all just out of high school, and you can see they were already doing pretty advanced, technical stuff. When Armmy left, GS had tours lined up in both Japan and abroad for 2012, and needed a lead singer. For the Japan tour various singers (including Fuki) filled in for different shows, but they couldn’t find someone good enough who could also commit to the band full time For their overseas tour Hana (who was doing drums and vocals and was effectively the co-leader of the band) took the lead vocals on herself. She also happens to play several other instruments. Here is a live performance of their track Across The Now from a tiny venue in France (filmed as part of their 2012 overseas tour-this was Hana's first test at taking lead vocals whilst drumming): kzread.info/dash/bejne/kYCiuKOgoc-raMo.html GS had had great chemistry with Fuki when she filled in for them, so while they were figuring out what to do with GS they contacted Fuki about doing a more metal project. This became Doll$Boxx. They wrote and recorded their first album at the end of 2012, then picked up GS again full time in 2013. This remains their main focus, and Fuki is busy with many projects including her main band Unlucky Morpheus, but they occasionally continue to perform together when their schedules permit. So Doll$Boxx can be considered a special project of GS. Regarding the genre of Gacharic Spin, it's pretty much impossible to pin it down to any one thing, although by and large they'd probably fall very roughly in the "pop rock" genre although they really just do whatever they want at any given time. You'll find everything in their back catalogue from metal and punk to electro, dance, pop and ballads. Most of their recent work merges multiple genres. In recent years, Gacharic Spin have added more personnel (a drummer, allowing Hana to focus on guitar and vocals, and dancers who also sing). Core personnel (these are also the members of Doll$Boxx along with Fuki): Hana (Hana Sano): vocals, drums, guitar, keytar, other instruments Tomo-Zo (Tomoko Midorikawa): lead guitar F-Chopper Koga (Michiko Koga): bass Oreo Reona (Reona Suzuki): keyboards, vocals All of them can sing and occasionally take on lead or backing vocals. Hana and Oreo also do metal growls in some songs. Several other performers have rotated in and out of GS. Currently they list Yuri as their drummer and Angelina doing dance and vocals. Here's a fun video of them performing their track Hunting Summer: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIuE27qTqsi8Y7w.html Oreo takes lead vocals on this and there's a fun dueling keyboard solo between her and one of the dancers. Here is Fantasy Medley, live, a medley of several of Tomo-zo's songs which are often named with a fantasy theme like Weekend Fantasy, Final Fantasy, etc: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eoCj09qYZqWZhNo.html Finally, you have seen "Mindset"--a remarkable excursion through fusion, electro-pop, metal and funk with some symphonic keyboards thrown in. Very few bands have the technical chops to pull off anything like this, as you saw. Welcome to yet another rabbit hole!
