This is an offshoot of the blues and rock music. Honky Tonk is an offshoot of country music. Not country western which combines two genres but just the country side.

The Marshall Tucker Band (Southern Rock, &/or Country Rock genre) with Toy Caldwell playing guitar and writing a lot of their music. They originated out of the Greenville / Spartanburg South Carolina area. Heard It In A Love Song and Can't You See, were their two biggest hits in the 70's. They were one of the Southern Rock jam bands along with The Allman Brothers, Molly Hatchet, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, & The Charlie Daniels Band. Most of these bands originated out of Jacksonville Florida , with the exception of Marshall Tucker out of South Carolina and The Charlie Daniels out of Tennessee. Also in this similar genre with a Western rhythm & Blues flavor out of Texas, ZZ-Top, and Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble. Charlie Daniels paid tribute to a lot of these bands in the song "The South is Going to do it Again". I should mention The Outlaws out of Tampa Florida too. I know I'm missing probably a lot but these were the heavy hitters in the 70's.

The end of October every year we have the The Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival (when its not as hot) this year the Marshall Tucker Band is performing with Clint Black and Sara Evans opening for them.. Its usually fun and still plenty hot. Our little town swells to 3x its size. Fun while its here but always happy to see it end.

Even us kids would play it at our beach bonfire parties, including the ones the parents DIDNT know about. Believe it or not there was quite the community of kids that normally only seen one another during the summer. Fast friends through good times and bad. R.I.P. Mark Coulthurst, 28, the Investor’s skipper; his pregnant wife, Irene Coulthurst, also 28; their two children, Kimberly, 5, and John, 4 and the crew murdered that horrible September day and To all our Friends and Family lost at sea.

MTB is southern rock with a bit more of a country influence than the others. With several of their songs they made flute playing cool like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. The hair bands of the 80's had nothing on the long-haired bands of the 1970's musically or hair wise. One thing about displaying the Confederate Battle flag, it is a sign of heritage pride and not racisms. And those who do fly in a racist way are an embarrassment and do not deserve to look upon something that so many of our ancestors fought and died under. (Hopping off my little soap box).

Honky Tonk music is considered country music. This is southern country rock music. As far as the confederate flag, I'm 67 and grew up not thinking anything about slavery being attached to it but to us southerners, we felt it denoted the southern country way of life. Nothing to do with the north or western states. I was born and raised in South Georgia and relish my southern countryness(I made that word up) and way of life, our southern drawl, laid back attitude and most of all our grits and fatback! LOL.

southern rock. we're from dixie, and that's why we love our southern flag. rebel flag a sign of the south in this era, but not in a racist way. the way you described the sound (backyard bbq and such) is exactly the way some southern rock comes across, but don't confuse it with solid country.

I noticed you've reacted to Chicago, once, and wonder if you want to give them another try? They have soooooo many classic songs over the years. Please consider reacting to any of these: 1 -- Will you still love me. 2 -- Hard to say I'm sorry. 3 -- If you leave me now. Let's continue the push toward the road of 300,000 subscribers. There has to be at least 26K more people out there, without a doubt, who will love and appreciate you being you.

Southern Rock/Jazz Fusion - see Capricorn Records of Macon, GA who are credited with creating the Southern Rock genre and from 1969 - 1979 produced nine Platinum albums, seventeen Gold albums and five Gold singles from acts such as The Marshall Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Bonnie Bramlett, Delbert McClinton, Dixie Dregs, Percy Sledge, Wet Willie etc. etc. etc. I prefer the studio version of this - he's Hamming it up too much in this one. Also, react to the title track from their second album A NEW LIFE, as well as TAKE THE HIGHWAY from their first (self-titled) album.

The term "redneck" originated in the United States, particularly in the South, and its exact origins are debated. One theory suggests that it stems from the sunburned necks of outdoor laborers, particularly farmers, who worked long hours in the fields. Another theory links it to the red bandanas worn by striking coal miners during the early 20th century. Initially, "redneck" was a descriptive term referring to rural, working-class white people, often with agricultural backgrounds. Over time, it has evolved into a somewhat derogatory slang term, often associated with stereotypes of conservative, uneducated, or narrow-minded individuals from rural areas, particularly in the Southern United States.

with the way you have to block the view in order to be able to do this without getting strikes, i'm not able to comment on the different looks. what i can tell you is that loggins and messina don't look at all similar in some pics while in other pics they look very similar (depends on if hair's same length/style, mustaches, etc.), and since they both sing and play instruments could you possibly have been seeing 2 people who, at times, you thought were one?
