Please react to the In Rainbows Live From the Basement sessions, his vocals are really on full display there. "Nude" is a great one to start with. This was early era for them with a rock/grunge-y vibe, but they are ultimately genre-bending.

Thom Yorkes voice is amazing tbh. The more you hear from Radiohead the more you'll come to realize this. Same with how all the songs are much deeper than they seem on the surface. I think you would really like How to disappear completely, Fake Plastic trees, No surprises, Street spirit etc Also, Radiohead is basically their own genre since every album is experimental and unique from the one before.

Radiohead have crossed genres a lot. This song was from their second album when they were still alternative/indie rock, hugely influenced by bands like Sonic Youth, The Smiths, Pixies, R.E.M., etc. After this album they'd become a more experimental art-rock band and then move into electronic music. Easily the most influential and important rock band of the last 30 years. They're as close as my our generation has to a band as important as The Beatles.

Thom has an amazing vocal range. PLEASE PLEASE listen to 'Street Spirit' (Fade Away) by Radiohead.....haunting is an understatement - it literally stops you in your tracks because it's so captivating 🖤🙏The official video is mesmerising but there's also an excellent live performance from Glastonbury 2017 - utterly beautiful. Radiohead are a very rare breed in music; they're so unique that they actually need their own genre. So experimental and eclectic - their portfolio of music is astounding. Also react to 'Paranoid Android'; Karma Police; No Surprises; My Iron Lung....their back catalogue is vast. MORE Radiohead please!

Yes, it was a coin. It produces a metallic whine with the strings (I play). And I just looked at the lyrics, yes, he does say, "you'd kill yourself for recognition..." I never paid that much attention to this particular song and WORDS DO MATTER. Especially if you hear them repeatedly. THANK YOU for pointing that out to me! You're on top of your game, thanks again! BTW, this song came out in Feb. of 1995. It's an oldie but a goodie. 🤩

As a new, Radiohead fan, here's one piece of advice from an old one. Thom Yorke's songwriting changes quite a bit as he more or less finished growing up in the public eye. Radiohead's first album is not considered very highly, with only one hit, but that was "Creep" and it was a big one. "High and Dry" is from _The Bends_ , the second album, and it is amazing start to finish. "High and Dry", "Fake Plastic Trees", "Just", and "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" were all hits, and the first two tracks are among my favorite rock songs even though they were not singles. The third album, _OK Computer_ is once again a leap forward, this time out of pure guitar rock and into a more complex blend of instruments, themes, and melodies, including "Paranoid Android" that you heard. The forth album., _Kid A_ and every album after that are honestly too progressive for me and for the typical listener. The second and third albums are the sweet spot for me and many other listeners, and they are consistently ranked as two of the best albums of all time.

Look out for their song Street Spirit (Fade Out). Street Spirit is a true masterpiece sound and video vise along with Black Star! At that time the 2 first albums Pablo Honey and The Bands were their "original sound" and on the 3rd album OK Computer they transitioned to a little bit different style with great songs like Karma Police, Exit and one of my favorites No Surprises. When Radiohead "dissasembeled" Thom Yorke then continued to perform solo experimenting with various palette of songs and styles (notable mentions and my favorites Hearing Dammage and a "political/consipiracy song" Harrowdown Hill).

Two of my favorites in the last few days… Prince and Radiohead. As some others have said, I really recommend that you check out the In Rainbows sessions. So great. I like Nude or Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. Also, if you haven’t seen it, Prince did a cover of Creep at Coachella. It is brilliant. Btw, there’s a group of Prince fans that watch live performances regularly, and we refer to the “PDC” often. Haha!

"Kill yourself for recognition, turn yourself into what you're not. Don't leave me high, don't leave me dry". I think he's saying "if you feel the need to be someone else instead of being yourself to gain social appreciation, then you are killing who you truly are. So if I be myself, please don't abandon me".

Early Radiohead albums would be considered Alternative or Progressive Rock ~ and the rom-com feel of "High and Dry" I suspect may have been a deliberate play on (precisely) a genre of TV music, that Radiohead and like-minded British bands detested as needy, not-real and commercialized. In the 90s, we were getting a lot of American rom-com series and movies like Friends and all sorts of Hallmark movies ~ so I suspect that line "you'd kill yourself for recognition" is a deliberate slight on the kinds of personalities usually promoted in US series and movies at that time: people pleasing, non-opinionated and (ofc) ultra consumers. The British Alternative/Progressive Rock scene came out of the Punk scene ~ and they absolutely hated US commercialism/populism. All the pretty singing is probably also a very sarky slight on the whole "oh, won't you please like me" theme. "High and dry" is most definitely a comment on neediness.

The Bends does have that 90's sound to it. To me this entire album sounds like The Pixies. Particularly the song Bones. OK Computer is a masterpiece. Subterranean Homesick Aliens is on that album and it is a great song. Kid A has some solid wonderful songs. My favorite RH album is In Rainbows. All these albums sound very different. Enjoy a deep dive into RH, you won't be sorry.

Thom Yorke is one of the greatest vocalists to come out of the 90's crop of great bands. I'd even argue that he's the greatest. And his lyrical genius is something that you come to understand the more familiar you become with the band. There aren't many people who can write about sadness and despair the way Thom can. And young Thom is absolutely adorable. He's just precious. Radiohead started as 90's alternative rock (which is it's own genre entirely) and shifted into a more progressive/experimental rock sound. Ok Computer falls more into the experimental electronic rock genre. You can't really put Radiohead in a box. They transcend everything.

The device the guitar player is using is called an ebow. Short for electronic bow. Violinists and Cellists use a very long bow to sustain the notes. An ebow uses magnets to vibrate the string and achieve the same long sustained notes.
