Dave Grohl’s drumming is ALWAYS insane. If you haven’t watched the videos for his song “Play” you should find the one in which he plays the drum parts along with the other parts. He wrote, played, and recorded all the all the instruments himself (just like the first Foo Fighters album!) and it’s intense.
The bass player chucked his bass up and it clocked him in the head, which is why he went down. Pretty sure he concussed himself

Yup, and Kurt didn't knew what happened and kicked him in the butt when he was staggering off stage 😂😂😂
You did the research during the song and that's alright. You're the first person I've watched to actually research anything so Kudos for that 👏 ☺

Yes lithium was a very early attempt at addressing depression. As someone who has taken it, it’s more like a numbing agent than a mood stabilizer. In that context the lyrics make more sense.

@BrittReacts there's two ways to understand this that my mind wants to embrace simultaneously: he was on drugs, if I understand correctly, throughout much of his too brief time in the spotlight, a heroin addict, and I don't know the chronology or other substances used separately or concurrently. Also, he appears lost in the moment and simply shuffling through his own lyrics as best he can, substituting words to poke fun at himself, PC or not. Fairly art-punk, imho. Or, y'know, something else 🤔 🙄 🤷😆

So kind of like jazz then ?
At the time of this performance, Nirvana had a sudo rivalry with Guns N Roses hence Dave Grohl (Drummer) saying Hi Axel. Also, Kurt wanted to play Rape Me but MTV refused to let them as a joke the first few chords they play are from Rape Me just to fuck with the producers. Kurt got angry as he played and that lead to destroying the stage. Something the Who started back in the 60s.

Axel who is that i know AXL sings for Guns N´ Roses
I appreciate how confused she initially looks. "Is this a band?" she seems to wonder. Darling, this is THE band. They rocked. They were a voice in a sea of boy bands and hair bands.
The reason the beginning of the song sounded funky , was MTV told Nirvana that they couldn't play the Initially planned song "Rape Me" so they agreed upon "LITHIUM" , so the band took the stage and Curt started playing "Rape Me" on the guitar , then stopped before the lyrics and started playing " LITHIUM" lol , And yes the Tall gut knocked himself silly for a minute when the bass came down and cracked his Cantaloupe
Krist Novoselic (the bass player) is 6'7"

Lithium is usually prescribed for being bipolar and suffering from either a manic episode or bipolar deppression (or both at the same time). From someone who's lived with this condition and had my ups and downs. This song is actually a really accurate description of what one might be experiencing during periods of time. There's some very personal experiences of your mental state in the lyrics that I have a really hard time believing someone who hasn't experienced it on that level could have written. I'm not sure if Kurt was bipolar, I've never heard him speak about it or it being mentioned more than in passing. But there's an overall lyrical theme around mental health in a lot of his songs. A sense of guilt, melancholy and overall feeling of just not giving a fuck because you're out of control. It's very relatable to anyone who's ever been through any kind of ups or downs in their life. But there's just something morbid about seeing an artist on stage singing and not knowing if they are exercising their demons or being exercised by their demons.
Depending on his state of mind at the time lyrics would change either on purpose or because he forgot. He was my saviour as a teenager (in a sensible way) and he, the band and that musical movement gave me something to identify with. I’d never heard anything like it.
I love that Brit is so open to past or earlier songs. Whether she gets it or not im glad she looks up the lyrics or meaning.
I love the whole MTV Live Unplugged in New York album and this and Tracy Chapman's first album are probably the albums I've listened to the most on my own than any other albums. Yeah, Kurt is part of the 27 club.
The bassist, Krist was 6'8 back then, he's probably 6'7 now. So pretty huge haha.
Yes that was Kurt Cobain. The ending of their performance was not scripted. However, Nirvana was known to trash their instruments on stage at the end of their show

The Who were known for it in their early years.
That’s what people did back in the day it’s a stage dive!!
Nirvana wanted to play a new song "Rape Me" (an ANTI-rape song) but MTV wouldn't let them. They demanded they play "Teen Spirit" or they wouldn't be on the show. So, they comprised on "Lithium". Kurt trolled the hell out of them by playing the first few lines of "Rape Me" anyway and MTV almost cut the broadcast. Kurt was very ambiguous about his lyrics meaning and interpretations, he once said to a reporter upon asked what they meant: "I want you to tell me what they mean to you, it's your crossword puzzle." He often times just used random poetry, and liked the sound of the words more than just the meaning as they fit phonetically. "Sometimes I'll write a sincere line, and then I'll have to make fun of it." He was also a master, of downplaying himself. He put a lot of thought into his work.
Fantastic song. Love Nirvana and your reaction to this great song Britt!
lithium can be used as an antipsychotic to treat manic depression, and it is the same mineral used in batteries

Im pretty sure this the time "The Giant" bass player thru his bass in the air and it came down and cracked him on the head..... he really was injured but it was MTV so the show must go on.
So happy you circled back to Nirvana simply stated they're Legendary amongst legends
Stones, the Who, Moody Blues, Simon and Garfunkel, and now Nirvana. Still waiting for The Beatles. please start with Hey Jude…live…❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful
What a performance! Kurt Cobain was the lead singer.
The giant man threw his bass guitar in the air and caught it with his head a bit and needed stitches afterwards
Nirvana made High School better... And Yes, the bassist broke his face when he threw his bass.
Congrats on the 100k!!
One of my favorites!!!
“The giant has fallen” 😂😂😂😂 I love your reaction video 👏

@@brittreacts 'Times Like These', another great FF tune. 'Learn to Fly' 'Monkey Wrench', 'Everlong'. Plenty to choose from.
Yes Britt...Kurt Cobain was the lead singer, writer and by far the main creative force for Nirvana. In the live song Kurt improved some new lyrics--also the end don't know if planned but yeah it's a rock n roll tradition to sometimes destroy your equipment when finished...doesn't happen a lot But THE WHO popularalized destroying their guitars and set up in the 60's. Stopped doing it a lot because it's expensive!
Congrats on 100k! In reference to the band busting up the set, was a very very common occurrence for them to do at the end of their sets (and sometimes before then) In the early days, they used to experience a lot of audio technical difficulties and the frustrations would mount, and they would just take out their frustrations on the instruments. In fact, especially in the early days, they would have to sometimes piece their instruments back together because they often went over budget on gear. This, and on top of the fact that they didnt care to play "encores," destroying their sets/equipment gave them an easy out of having to come back out on stage.
I liked you researching during the song.
There was a show/s where people would just stand on stage and dance the whole time, they may or may not have known them....
Watching a video on Kurt's history would explain a ton, where he grew up, how he grew up, marriage....it's very interesting.
YES MORE NIRVANA YES YES YES
Kurt was calling out 'Axel Rose,' to scrap at the end of the video.
Welcome to the "quiet-loud-quiet" world of 90's grunge. And btw, regarding the dancer.................. ask Chris Rock about off-script stuff happening on live tee vee.
If you haven't already, you should check out Foo Fighters. They are fronted by Dave Grohl, Nirvana's drummer. The Pretender is a great choice.

Lithium use to be in the water before we started messing with our drinking water.
thank you for research the lyric🙂
BTW... the drummer is Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters
Lithium is also used to treat Bipolar 1 and it can also be poisonous if abused.
Great thanks Britt middle school flash backs 😂
Krist Novoselic, the bassist, is 6 ft 7 inches. and Kurt, the singer had beef with Axel Rose of Guns n Roses. Axel was in the audience, which was why Kurt was yelling at him. excellenct video!!

Sounds like Dave, Kurt wasn't mic'd
You need to go back and watch why "the giant" fell. I wasn't even thinking about it until then and you pointing it out so much. One hint; his bass gets airborne
It's "about" all kinds of things and "means" whatever you want, but I'll note that Kurt was fostered by a family for a while, and the kid closest in age to him was born again, and he went with it ---so taking a page from Karl Marx ("religion is the opiate of the masses"), he made a pharmacological/poetic substitution. Listen to it again with that fact in mind.
@BrittReacts The giant had fallen because he tossed his bass into the air and when attempting to catch it, the bass blasted him in the skull. Yeah. He threw his bass and it landed on his face. Reference: kzread.info0Ay6BzCSOkA
Good reaction....as some others have said the Foo Fighters have some great music so a reaction to them would be great....watching them live is much better so I would suggest that because Dave Grohl the lead singer usually does some interesting things on stage....❤
Not sure if you've done Foo Fighters yet. The drummer in Nirvana is the singer in Foo Fighters. Start with Pretender video.
Kurt is notorious for changing lyrics during live events.
The giant didn't just fall, he threw his guitar in the air and i think instead of catching it, it hit his head.
The reaction to Kurt's "alternate lyrics" is perfect 😂. Kurt just did this when he was bored, he just played on stage. Everyone knew ALL the lyrics. Some of us dinosaurs still do.
Krist Novoselic (the bassist) is around 6' 7", so yeah, he's tall af. I personally think this song is not only a song about bipolar disease, but also secretly about heroin and illicit drug use (which Kurt was a user of). Think about it, a heroin needle is thin like a candle, and what do you do to the tip? Light it, to either light the candle or burn the tip of the needle to destroy HIV when sharing needles (a huge epidemic during the 90's), etc... Light my "candle" in a daze cause I found God. He's equating the rush and euphoria of heroin to the euphoria of finding God...finding "Nirvana"...just my take, listen to the song's lyrics again with this in mind, and you'll find MANY parallels...broke my mirrors..mirrors, being used to create lines of cocaine to snort...etc...
Krist "the giant" fell because he threw his bass up and it hit him
Kurt always did it lyrics Last said they didn't really matter and would change then on the fly
The bass player, Krist Novoselic is 6'7" - a full 1 foot taller than Kurt Cobain making them quite the awkward looking bunch lol
Kurt Cobain a tragic figure who entered the famous 27 Club. He joins Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison, and others in this group who died at 27.
Awesome video.

The bassist is 6 foot 7
according to an interview with the drummer, the bassist got hit in the head by the bass guitar coz he was blinded by the lights, went off stage and was later found having champagne with Brian May back stage
Another Nirvana gem: "Breed"
Lithium is given to people with schizophrenia/ paranoia and bipolar
Earlier Nevada sounds a lot like the Ramones
Kurt was always looking for left handed guitars because he kept destroying them.
Lithium is an element that was used for decades as an anti-depressant & anti-mania drug (also an element used in batteries, ha)....its both a periodic table element & a drug, kurt was talking about the drug...im not sure if he ever took it, or any anti-depressants & prob not taking some wisely prescribed ssri was prob part of his difficulties ....he needed some help there in the end

Pls, listen to more of there songs, than you understand them. And you know Dave Grohl, from the foofighters, He was the drummer of Nirvana. He is like a last signatur of them.😊😊😊
The depression of the ‘90’s gave way to the unasked-for optimism of the 2000’s….And then we got Taylor Swift and Cardi-G…..God, help us….
This is very fast paced compared to the studio version.
I’m surprise, Kurt Cobain didn’t see his guitar 🎸 on fire 🔥 like Jimi Hendrix used to at the end of his shows 😂
Yea, shaving his head...dude version of cutting bangs 😂
His guitar actually hit him after he threw it...and knocked him out (kinda). Lol
I couldn't find the video you were reacting to. But I love Billie eilish as well. But I think she has a strange relationship with her brother. Idk what it is but it's just weird. I love my brother to death but I'm not as close to him as those two are with each other. But great music. Lol
Can you do Heart Shaped Box by them?
Yeah that was grunge !
Krist was very tall, but kurt was pretty short, so, its all relatively made to look more extreme in both their cases regarding height, lol
He shot himself with a shotgun… believe his disassociated words… might mean something. Actually meant a lot to me for mental heath struggles
