hit that subscribe button like the puck hit the goalies...hard and fast...
That last one was Jacques Plante. You noticed his mask but, what you don't realize is that he was the first goalie to actually wear one permanently. Everyone before him went helmetless, just like everyone else on the ice.

How crazy is that, no mask. Fearless
You asked about moving the goals. The game stops when the goals come loose from their pegs. You can draw a penalty for intentionally shoving it to cause a game stoppage.

Good to know thank you. I'll get there one day and learn the rules. It's all new to me so it will take abit of time
For that last one, check out the Canadian Heritage Minute for Jacques Plante.
As a goalie I can say there's so much heat trapped inside your gear there's no concern with things hurting more because of the cold, you'll see goalies frequently take a lap around the zone between plays, some do that just to move, I do it to get some airflow inside my gear if I'm getting too hot. And stingers are absolutely a thing, I used to catch pucks by pinching them between my arm and my ribs all the time, had massive bruises because there's no padding there. My last catch glove was getting so worn down I'd catch a puck in the palm and loose the ability to close my hand for a second or 2, and a few weeks ago i took a shot to the face so hard it broke a screw holding the cage onto my mask, probably would have done more damage but I saw where it was going and leaned into it so it hit my forehead instead of between the eyes.
Canadian here... something most folks don't know is that the pucks are frozen before the game. They do this so the puck slides better.

yeah man, I'll screenshot your comment so I remember
The very worst goalie injury happened in 1989 when Marlarchuk got his neck sliced by a skate.
The puck weights a little more than a cricket ball and is made from vulcanized rubber. The edges are slightly rounded, but don't have a lot of give once they freeze it solid. The average 14 year old can shoot the puck in the 55 to 65 mph range. Men's beer league teams usually have at least one guy that can rifle it, but average is probably around 80 mph, a little higher or lower depending on the region the team plays in. Pros are high 90s up to over 100.
If the net comes off play is blown dead by the ref, but if it’s apparent the defending team did it on purpose it’s a 2 minute delay of game penalty
I was hit in the right side of my face in front of the net with a slapshot and it broke my jaw in 3 places. I knew it was coming but when i moved another player hit me and moved me in front of it. Broken jaw and wires for almost 2 months. Played a game 5 months later and reached out to block a shot and hit in the mouth for 8 stitches. Getting old and decided to let the game go 😀 since work and income is more important!

BTW - every goalie I've ever met is at the next level crazy.
You’re absolutely right, it hurts to get blasted in the head even with a helmet. I had my face mask broken by a teammate in practice one night. I was just skating along after doing drills, minding my own business and my teammate didn’t see me. He took a slap shot and it hit me right in the facemask and broke it. I had one of these hybrid metal cage/plastic shield masks where you have the cage on top and bottom and a plastic visor in between. The visor snapped into my face and gave me a nasty cut between my eye and eyebrow that took 13 stitches to close up. They said I “dropped like you got shot”. Fun times. Edit to add: I wasn’t the goaltender just to be sure that’s clear. The guy wasn’t aiming at me, it was just a bad shot.

Even though it must have sucked, you're lucky it missed your eye and you didn't lose your vision. I've had some injuries in the past from my younger sportier days and like you, I still thing of them as "the good times". Wouldn't change it for anything

One thing that I always hated in practice is when I'd be drinking water between drills and someone would shoot the puck and hit me in the back of the legs. Stung so bad and it would get me pissed in a hurry lol.
When goalie got hit on neck or head ref must stop the game straight away.

That's a good thing man, some of those hits are scary
hockey pucks are harder than baseballs- they are SOLID. they could certainly knock someone out just coming down from a short toss up.

I never realized how hard they are until my son started playing and brought one home.
Back in the old days (not the real old days) the goalies used to wear a form fitting plastic or fiberglass mask. Think Jason and Michael Myers in Halloween and Friday the 13th. Back then it was not unusual for a shot that hit a goalie in the face to cause a cut to open up or cause a concussion. All the mask really did was lessen the impact so that not every puck hitting a goalie in the face drew blood.
Weber's slap shot can be about 100 miles per hour. Getting hit with a frozen puck an even slower puck can hurt.
4:27 That shot broke the goalies hand. The one shooting is Al MacInnis. The guy who had the most feared slapshot in NHL history. Bar none. No one dared to block his shot, because it would just destroy anything it hit. And he used a wooden stick to fire pucks as fast or faster than current big shooters do with composite sticks. MacInnis was no joke. A really great defenseman who's shot is legendary.
I literally had this happen in a pickup game. I came across the net following a pass. Guy blasted a slap shot right in front of me. Hit me right between the eyes and put me right on my ass. My head felt like it was in a fish bowl all night. $600 dollar mask, saves you from concussions.
Helmets only got mandated during play, in th 1980's. The goalies nevet even wore masks or helmets, til 50's and the last goalie holdout was in the 70's.
Dont worry about them being cold, usually you will sweat so much that the jerseys get wet outside the pads! 😉

Yup, I don’t feel cold (I feel warm in game) but if I stay still too long then I’ll be cold asf. That’s why I usually sit in a warm area if the locker room is too cold lol
There's a crazy record in the NHL that will never ever be broken. Glenn Hall, Chicago's goalie played 502 consecutive games in the league (an absurd amount already). ALL without a mask or a helmet of any kind.

Both of those are insane, so many game and no helmet WOW
My mask was blown off by a slap shot two nights ago. I was out for maybe 10 seconds or so, but, thankfully, I didn't get cut or anything. It definitely doesn't feel good, that's for sure. Shots in my league are only in the 70-80 mph range for the most part, these guys are ripping them in the 90's routinely and some of them stay up in the triple digits.
Yeah hockey goalies are a different kind of crazy lol...
My beard is grayer than yours mate, so I'll subscribe to try and help you out lol. Cheers from Canada

Hahaha, thanks man, I went bald early and now the grays are ganging up and taking over
Just think, many of these shots are travelling 90-100 mph! That's like 145-160 mph.
That shot by Al MacInnis (about 4m 30s in) went through Thibault's glove and broke a finger or two.

Just shows how fast that puck is going, being a complete newbie to hockey I was amazed how hard they actually are,my son brought one home when he started playing and i was shocked. Don't really know what I was expecting but it wasn't that

@@jonograhamreacts for sure! And frozen at that. Al hit 100mph in the hardest shot competition, but with the old wooden sticks, not the more modern composite sticks.

Chara and Weber have both been close to 110 mph on different years. I think they were both around 108 mph. That's 192 joules/146 lb ft of energy.
check out the history of Jacques Plante ,that guy was a monster [ great ]
In the Old days, goalies had just a leather mask
Guys like Weber can shoot it easily at 100mph btw....
It take awhile to learn to breath with it, but I recommend that your son uses a tooth guard

That is 100% on the shopping list for next season
Al McGinnis had a 105 mile per hour shot

that is insane, I can't imagine trying to stop that
goalie use to play without a mask at all
now watch the films from the 50's and 60's when goalies didn't wear a mask or even a helmet , they would take a puck to the face go to the medical room , get stitched up and go back in .
it's not only hard but frozen
it was way worse in the days before the mask
