@loup garou - it's definitely up there and arguably true. I love Ann's delivery in the early days but it was more raw. It seems in the mid-80s she might have taken some lessons to control her natural ability and as a result, her voice sounds phenomenal from that point on. IMO, Ann's best performance was from the 2002 DVD Live In Seattle. For me, it's her at her peak and their best concert. That being said I saw them live the night they recorded at Caesars Windsor for the DVD in 2014 and she killed that too.

The sisters Ann (vocals) and Nancy (guitar) Wilson founded the legendary rock band Heart, inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. The drummer, Jason Bonham, is the son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. John Bonham passed away in Sept. 1980 which marked the end of the band. From Wikipedia: Rather than replace Bonham, Led Zeppelin chose to disband out of respect for their deceased bandmate. They said in a press release on 4 December 1980: "We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend and the deep respect we have for his family, together with the sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were." Also, the bowler hats worn by Jason and the choir were a nod to the famous hat worn by Jason’s father, John. Great reaction!

Ann and Nancy weren't part of putting Heart together. They joined the band later and made them MUCH more popular. There are no founding members left in Heart. It's just an interesting piece of trivia that lives in my memory. I love that even though they had nothing to do with the beginning, they took it and made it their own.

What a delightful reaction. And yeah, you nailed it. When John Bonham died, it ended the band. Just like the 1977 plane crash ended Lynyrd Skynyrd, bonzo's death ended Led Zeppelin. And that's his son and so of course, there's an incredible emotional connection going on there, and the song was huge before John Bonham died, it's just that it also has more less turned into kind of a tribute to him. He was one of the greatest drummers of all time. Just beyond stupendous. I got very emotional watching this even though I've seen it a few times before. And I can't believe you haven't done heart. That seems impossible to me. You haven't done Crazy On You, or Barracuda, or Magic Man? Wow. There is some good live footage of them doing those songs and another hit or two that I see people react to sometimes. But also the audio itself is so good. I know you will love them. Ann and Nancy Wilson are sisters. One sings and the other plays the guitar, although in reality, they're both pretty good at both. Those were just their roles in the band.

That last "mega-chord" at the very end, with all the choir in full crescendo mode, ALWAYS gets me, and I just HAVE to cry. Don't ask me why. It's so beautiful... ❤ I believe that to perform THIS song in front of the legends that wrote it, and to get a standing ovation FROM THEM, one of which in tears, speaks volumes about the incredible quality of this rendition. It is in my car playlist since the first time I heard it, and it's one of the songs I go back to when I want to FEEL that thing along the spine. 🙂 Thanks for reacting to this beauty. First off, Ann's the brunette and Nancy's the blonde-people used to confuse them, so they made buttons with that phrase on them. They're from Bellevue, a suburb of Seattle. Heart was on tour when the Kennedy Honors were scheduled, so Ann and Nancy flew in from their tour stop to perform. As someone said, Ann had the flu. They were able to rehearse once before the concert. Ann and Nancy are admired and revered by the bands around here (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, etc.). Nancy used to have those Seattle other band members over for "hootenanies" on her farm (in the '90's, when she and Ann still lived around here), when everyone would sit around and jam on acoustic guitars. Chris Cornell (of Soundgarden) spoke at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ann sang backing vocals on the Alice In Chains song "Rooster". John Paul Jones (bassist for Led Zeppelin) produced and played bass on their acoustic album "The Road Home", which was recorded over 4 days at a Seattle club The Backstage. I was lucky enough to go to all 4 shows. Last, you need to listen to the full version of the tribute Ann and Nancy did-kzread.info/dash/bejne/fnqsscN9la3TiM4.html&ab_channel=DonJack

After Britt does some of their studio hits, she should do as much off of Live In Seattle as possible. I love test show and think it's their best recorded live concert. It's to Heart what PULSE is to Pink Floyd, IMO. Battle Of Evermore from that show is off the charts, as is Alone and Straight On.

Man this always hits me hard. When you see Robert Plant tearing up, I imagine they all have to be reflecting on how they're in the twilight of their journey, wishing Bonham was there, and going back to their great times. Watching this performance is really a striking metaphor of the journey of life, and in this instance a job well done.

I think the hat style is technically called a "bowler hat" but yeah, the original drummer who passed away often wore one, and his son (playing in the video) wears one to honour his Dad.

When John Bonham (the original drummer passed away the remaining band members decided they would not be able to replace him both talent and chemistry wise so they disbanded and this marked the official end of Led Zepplin, while 'unofficially' adopting his son, Jason. This performance was them being honoured at the Kennedy Centre in 2012. Jason told the band he would not be able to attend due to 'other commitments', which naturally upset them. The first they knew he would actually be there was when he was introduced at the beginning of the performance, hence the bands reaction and emotion, the emotion displayed by them throughout would have been a mixture of remembering their friend John, listening to an amazing version of the song that will go down as one of the greatest of all time and played how they intended, to be built up over time and with many layers, reminiscing and of course, Jason playing drums for his Dad. The significance of the bowler hat the choir wore was John's signature hat. :)

Weather in music, dance, opera, movie pictures and television & so on. This was in 2012. I watched it on tv. I tell u this. Heart did a phenomenal job. The band Led Zeppelin was up in the balcony watching. They were so pleased with the performance.

You were so engrossed in the ending Ann sang so you missed a special part of this video you must see, pls rewatch, I promise. LZ had no idea Jason was performing that night and were disappointed he was not able to attend, hence Robert jumping up out of his seat and pointed at him as Jason pointed his drum sticks back. Jason toured with Ann/Nancy for a time. These 2 love LZ and will often close their show with a LZ tune. The boller hat, Google John Bonham images, you will see. ❤❤

Can you imagine singing this iconic song in front of the band who made it a rock anthem...The drummer who is playing the drums in this set is filling in for his late father (Led Zeppelin's drummer). He passed in 1980. The woman is Ann Wilson, she and her sister Nancy were a big deal when they were one of the first female rock bands back in the day who sang hard rock and heavy metal....check out Heart- Barracuda or Alone. Her voice is phenomenal still.

Ann's vocals are a force of nature, and have been for fifty years. And her sister, Nancy, is a guitar virtuoso. Together, they can shatter MOUNTAINS. To see the tears in Robert's eyes, and the look of wonder on Jimmy's face....that just says it all. No reaction could have told Ann and Nancy that they'd crushed the performance quite as well.

In reading about this concert it was noted that Ann was sick with the flu. She absolutely killed it. I also read that Heart was the only group that Led Zeppelin permitted to perform their songs. Britt, in case you haven't already done so please check out "Kashmir" Celebration Day version. Jason Bonham truly makes his dad proud. I think you'll enjoy seeing it. By the way, one reason Robert Plant showed such emotion is because he and John Bonham were best friends since childhood and the members of Led Zeppelin had no idea that Jason would be performing. Honoring John Bonham with the hats brought tears to my eyes. Simply beautiful. If you'd enjoy seeing what an amazing drummer John Bonham was you need to see the live version of "Moby Dick" I believe it is 17 minutes long and John even plays the drums with his hands!

The hats are a tribute to the late John Bonham, Zeppelin's drummer and the actual father of the guy playing the drums with Heart and wearing the actual hat his dad used to wear back in the day. Story goes the guys from Zeppelin invited him to join them on behalf of his dad in this ceremony but he said that he was sorry he couldn't make it because he had a prior commitment he couldn't cancel but didn't specify what because he wanted to surprise them playing to honor them and his dad. The singer is his godfather and all the band are basically his uncles so they're obviously very touched by him playing the song fo them.

The band members, left to right, are bassist John Paul Jones, lead singer Robert Plant and lead guitarist Jimmy Page. Robert Plant wrote Stairway to Heaven. Can you imagine being a 4 piece band and hearing your song performed with a choir, orchestral instruments and a production this big? I think that’s the reason they, especially Robert Plant, are emotional during this amazing performance. As many others have mentioned in this thread a dive into Heart’s catalog will amaze you. Great reaction!

They show a gentleman during that guitar solo, and I've never heard anyone make mention. He is the world renowned cellist, Yo Yo Ma. He is the greatest of this world, and perhaps any other time. I saw him once live when I was in Korea. He's a big Bach guy, and if you're a cellist how could you not be? He's been performing since he was 4 and his playing is truly transcendent. He's coming to San Diego in March and I've got a strong desire to beg, borrow or steal some tickets. By the way, Ann and Nancy have been blowing our minds since the early 70"s. The only surprise is their longevity.
