One of the reasons Tim Conway was so great is precisely his ability to keep a straight face no matter what it was that he was doing.

Yes, Britt. This actually aired. "The Carol Burnett Show" was a family favorite for many years. Tim Conway was a guest many times before he was brought on as a regular. Harvey Korman(patient) was also very talented. These two had an ongoing rivalry to see who could make the other break the 'fourth wall' first. Tim usually won. The cast would rehearse then tape live. Tim would follow the script during rehearsal, then ad-lib movements, lines, and reactions while filming. The rest of the cast had to try to keep up. It is rumored Harvey laughed so hard during this skit, he actually lost bladder control a little. Tim's physical comedy was amazing. There is a skit where he 'fell' up a flight of stairs, in slow motion. His 'old man' skits were comedy gold.

yea in this skit Tim said he found the skit boring so he decided to liven it up in the middle. This is where Harvey knew Tim went off script and started on his rant, you can see Harvey starting to smile knowing something is up. The part where he numbs his hand , at that part after is when Tim started going off tangent.

Carol Burnett is a comedic genius, but she surrounded herself with amazing people like Tim Conway this is an example of just how much they would go off script just for the sake of cracking each other up. And the audiences loved it. It was before the time where they started doing fake audience laugh tracks, which soured me on sitcom TV forever. This is back when it was actually real.

This cast and show were Comedy Gold with Platinum Status. And yes, we saw all of this on TV, there were no take outs. Tim Conway would always do the skit as written and make sure the director had what he wanted. Then they would do it again with Tim adding all the bits he thought up--most of the time those are the ones that made it into the show, because watching the others in the skit react to him--or rather, trying NOT to react--is what made the sketches so much fun for the audience--and probably for the others in the show, too.

Hilarious, just about every skit these two performed together on the Carol Burnette Show Harvery Korman always tried his best he could to not breakdown laughing at Tim Conway's antics and as you saw here it didn't work out to well for Harvey on most occasions. Great show and two class comedians from what's beginning to be a minute ago. Damn, time flies. This has to be around 50 years ago now. Carol Burnette is 90 now and still going strong. PEACE ❤

Classic Tim Conway genius. Harvey Korman literally peed his pants during this scene. As kids we used to watch the Carol Burnett show every week as a family. True comedy.

Harvey Korman (in the chair) is laughing so hard because he had no idea what was coming. Tim Conway (the dentist) was one of the writers of the show. They would do a rehearsal show and then tape it live in front of an audience. Tim would often do one thing in the rehearsal and something completely different during the live taping. This was an example of one of those shows.

Tim Conway was comedy gold and one of the greatest improvers in the business. Yes, "The Carol Burnett Show" was a very popular weekly show. They would do rehearsals prior to the live show recordings. During rehearsals, Tim Conway would play his part straight to the script every time. When it was time for the live performance, Tim Conway always went completely off script to crack up his co-stars. He even took it further by getting the sound department, and / or costume department involved without letting the other actors know what he was planning.

Britt Carol Burnett Show kept all or most of these funny moments on her show. She hired new actress with her similar features: Vicki Lawrence. You have seen her as Mama during the elephant skit with Tim Conway. Tim rehearsed that week's show with no problems, then he improv his lines to break his castmates from their acting. Carol and her producers knew that Tim's improvisations on each episode are gold mine.

The "dentist" knocked his "patient's" tooth out when he hit him in the face with the lamp. Although they were never an official team, Tim Conway and Harvey Korman made one of the great comedy duos of all time.

Yes the show was LIVE, that is what makes it SO GOOD, and it was a live audience too, it's NOT canned laughter. The Carole Burnett Show was the BEST show EVER on TV. No, he didn't pull his own tooth out, it came out when Tim pushed the light into Harvey's face!

The Carol Burnette show was comedy gold on TV for years, along with the Dean Martin roasts, where different big name stars would get roasted and poked fun at by other celebrities.

Britt, the great thing about the Carol Burnett Show is that it was performed live in front of a studio audience. In fact Carol would always start the show coming out on stage and interacting with the audience, so there were not edits. Half the fun was seeing the actors, including Harvey Corman (often the straight man) just not being able to keep from laughing! Tim Conway is just so hilarious, but I'm sure this was not improv, but rehearsed many times, but I'm sure it was a bit different each time, and still in the moment it gets just too funny to resist laughing. Seeing the performers trying to keep from laughing was half the fun! (Carol Burnette would also come out and sing the standard "good night" song for the how. "So glad we had this time together, it started." The show was mostly comedy sketches, but usually had a musical artist too-- a king of comedy/variety show.

Britt, this aired LIVE on tv; and that was actual audience laughter. Both Tim Conway (The Dentist) and Harvey Korman were comedic geniuses. They always made each other laugh hysterically by going off-script.
