I was a kid / teen in the 70s and remember The Carol Burnett Show very very well..I was a very all around talented kid..Was great in sports, creating and making games for my younger siblings to play, was an artist, always outside doing something fun...BUT when Carol Burnett Show comes on, I'd drop everything to watch it lol. I'd wouldn't change my childhood, especially in the 70's for anything in the world. It was truly the best of times EVER.

The Carol Burnett Show is iconic. It had the best guests, the costume design was off the charts (Bob Mackie), and the humor was actually clean. Seriously the best comedic show ever. "The Dentist" sketch is known as the best in comedy. Harvey Korman peed his pants after all. 😆 Tim Conway was always trying to break him, as you can see. He would act differently in rehearsal and switch it up during the show.

I’m 73. When I was growing up, families had one telephone, one car, one TV set although all that was starting to change. These kinds of shows were on TV once a week during their regular time slot so the family would gather to watch their favorite shows when they came on. The Carol Burnett Show had 4-5 regular actors plus a guest star each week who performed with them. They had great musical numbers as well as comedy skits and wonderful costumes and sets.

Tim Conway, the short guy, would do rehearsals, according to the script, then do something totally different, during taping. When he found something that would set off Harvey, he'd go for it.

Tim Conway (the "old" man) and Harvey Korman (the tall one) were excellent with their comedy routines. I watched the Carol Burnett Show for it's entertainment, but mostly to watch these two guys doing their comedy skits. My favorite is The Dentist. Harvey had such a hard time keeping a straight face. When Tim got started, Harvey would always end up laughing. The show was great entertainment for the whole family. Besides Carol, Tim, and Harvey, Vickie Lawrence later joined the cast.

The Koala was a running joke for a couple of years. Tim tried it out early on and broke up Harvey and a couple others along with the audience and was always looking for a spot to do it again. Tim number one mission when he was in a sketch was to try and cause the other actors to lose it. He especially loved to break up his partner in crime Harvey Korman. Together they earned a number of Emmy's for their effort on this show.

Tim Conway had several recurring characters just like in a lot of Comedy sketch shows but one of his most iconic is whenever he plays a really old man that moves and does everything in really slow motion. I cannot tell you how many times I was in stitches rolling on the floor with laughter is a little kid as he shuffled his feet forward inch by inch as he went to go across the floor and he'd run into the bottom tread of a stair and just keep repeating or into a wall and just keep repeating, and he always cracked the other cast members up

The tall one is Harvey Korman. The shorter man is Tim Conway. Another woman from the show was Vikki Lawrence. She created a character on the show called Thelma "Mama" Harper, and in the '80s they gave her & her character its own show called "Mama's Family". If you've seen "Blazing Saddles" Harvey Korman was in it as well.

This was a great show that I would look forward to each week. The main cast was Carol, Tim, Harvey and Vicki. I always thought Vicki Lawrence look like she could be Carol's little sister. Her main character was Mama. She was Carol's bitter and crochety old mama. She does a great job with it. Lot of times they had guest to joined them. One of the main ones was a guy named Lyle Waggoner. He was tall, dark and handsome. All the ladies went nuts for him. Love your reactions, keep up the great work.

Carol Burnett was inspired by Lucille Ball. Carol took the best of what Lucy did and combined it with her incredible comedic genius to create some of the best comedy sketches ever. She surrounded herself with true comedic geniuses in their own right - Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, and Vickie Lawrence. And each week she had the best of the best as guest stars to make the sketches all the more memorable. It was, definitely, the best comedy show on television during its eleven-season run, and in my mind, the greatest comedy variety show in TV history..

So Harvey Korman (taller) one was always the one to break up. They would do two filmings of the show with two different audiences. Tim Conway would also go by the book on the first one and then asked the production staff if they got what they needed in the first taping. If they did then he would completely go off book for the second taping. They say they usually used the second taping because of it. They discussed this on a reunion show one year. Britt you are great thanks for making me smile and laugh all the time.

The Carol Burnett Show had four main people for most of its run. Carol Burnett, Vicki Lawrence, Harvey Korman and Lyle Waggoner were the four in the early years. Tim Conway was a frequent guest star up until 1975, when Waggoner left and Tim was hired as his replacement. Tim more or less made it his mission to bust up Korman, and he'd often ad-lib or do silly things to accomplish it. In the Court Martial skit, Tim's accent was something he invented on the spot just to mess with Korman. As you saw, it worked spectacularly. Korman left the show in its last season in 1977, and Dick Van Dyke replaced him for ten episodes. That's why you see Dick in the outtakes for the Elephant Story. But it was mutually agreed that Dick didn't fit with the show, and he left after the ten episodes were recorded.

I grew up with this show. It was LIVE! That was the source of the hilarity, no second chances. My favorite recurring sketches were with Eunice and Mama and Mrs Wiggins. You MUST see the blooper of Mama, Eunice and Tim Conway, the Password Elephant story...you'll laugh 'til you cry, as they all did!

It was not live. It was taped a couple of days prior to airing.

I grew up with the Carol Burnett Show and had the opposite problem when I saw Carol playing Miss Hannigan. I was shocked to see her being mean to Annie and the orphans.

Certain actors on that show love to go against the script and crack the other cast members up. It was the funniest part of a live show, before a live audience.

There was a lot of improv on the show. Many years ago when Burt Reynolds was a s3x symbol he was asked, "If you were stranded on a desert island and could have one woman with you, who would it be?" He didn't even stop to think. He said, "Carol Burnett."

Tim and Harvey had a standing bet during the Carol Burnett Variety Show of $50.00 every time one could get the other to break character. Conway said in later years he put 3 of his kids thru college thanks to Harvey...

Now if you have ever seen Gone With the Wind, then you need to react to their sketch of Went With the Wind.... The longest sustained laugh they ever got. They frequently did skits based on old classic movies because that was the one thing that Carol and her grandmother could afford to do when she was growing up in Hollywood. Carol always tugged at her ear to signal to Nanny that she was OK on every TV appearance she made on her show and the Gary Moore Show where she started earlier in her career.

Tim Conway (the short one) constantly improvised, breaking script, and knew how to crack up the other guy, either with his words or the way he says his lines. Tim Conway, possibly the greatest comic improviser. About the “Kuwalla”, Tim would just pronounce it weirdly, not like during rehearsals.

My favorite show going up..made me laugh so much and it's because of the improve that Tim Conway did and made the other actors loose it....I saw Carol Burnett live and she talked about the show and showed clips and took questions from the audience...BEST TIME EVER!!!😂😂😂😊😊😊

This was a variety show, the did skits and had guest, like Cher and Lucille Ball. Other regulars were Lyle Waggoner, who was on the 70's "Wonder Woman" TV show for 4 years, after Carol's show ended. Vicki Lawrence, who played Mama on a lot of the shows and, later had her own TV show called "Mama's Family". Also, she recorded "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia", 20 years before Reba McEntire, It went to No.1, on the Billboard charts.
