@@brittreacts It's called "A Math Lesson with the Bunkers" Here's the background before you watch the clip. George Jefferson owns a cleaning store and Archie gets his dry cleaning done there. Archie unknowingly gave George a counterfeit $20 when he picked up his dry cleaning. George goes to Archie's house to tell him that he gave him a counterfeit $20, and Archie refuses to believe that he gave him a bad bill and refuses to make good on it. They have an argument. Both men are stubborn so Edith and Louise decide to sneakily try to make the men make peace. Edith gives Louise Archie's coat to be cleaned and she puts a good $20 in the pocket of the coat and Louise tells George that she thinks Archie intentionally put the good $20 bill in his pocket for George to find and that was Archie's round- about way of saying he was sorry. George decides to be honest and give the good $20 back to Archie. Archie is thrilled that $20 was found in his coat pocket and accepts the bill and George of course is disappointed that Archie didn't offer to give it to him because Archie did in fact stiff him the other day. Edith pulls Archie aside and says that it would be a nice gesture for Archie to at least give George half of the $20 since he got stiffed. Archie agrees to give George $10 and that's when the hilarity begins. This scene will take it from there: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHqqk8GCfrTRe9Y.htmlsi=JPa5isQM9DMBJE9L

Though All In The Family was based on the British show 'Till Death Do Us Part, there are also similarities between the character of Carroll O'Connor's Archie and Jackie Gleason's character of Ralph Kramden on The Honeymooners, a sitcom that started in 1955. In fact they talked about it. You can also see echoes of The Honeymooners in The Flintstones, and Gleason almost sued over it.

Way to take out salt is to add chop chopped potatoes and if it is a recipe that does not require potatoes you can always quarter them and they will still absorb the salt and you can take them out later

If you get a chance you should check out some of the first few episodes. The character of Edith started out a bit more brazen towards Archie and she didn't hadn't used her full nasaly voice yet. Archie started out as a poster boy for anger management. He was in a fit most of the time. The characters settled out around the 10th episode

I remember this episode. Exactly right Edith should have said nothing and only did the "letter on the tray in front of the beer" thing. If I remember correctly, this was Mikey and Edith's final show. They (and the letter) were never seen or heard from again. The authorities eventually caught up with what appeared to be a "relieved" Archie at the liquor store exchanging beer brands.

One beef Archie has with Meathead, bedsides his liberal politics, is that he is a college student with no job, a huge appetite and he is living in Archie's house and Archie has to support him. Archie quit high school to get a job and help support his family at the tail end of the Great Depression so he is all about people earning their way. You should check out the opening credits and listen to the theme song Archie and Edith sing together. Kinda gives you a little idea of Archie's thinking.

I think Archie would have preferred his daughter to marry a man with an established career, who can financially support and care for his daughter with a home, etc...; then bring her liberal leaning, atheist, long hair (for the times), student to live in the house and the Bunker's supporting both the kids. I do not know if the ethnicity would still be a problem if Mike was supporting Gloria. I just remember one time later on when Mike and Gloria made guest appearances because they moved, Archie in one episode, will tell Mike he respected him more than his own daughter. Regarding Gloria and her dinner with too much salt... Some 44 years ago, my then boyfriend's mother always spoke nice to anyone in front of their face. When her daughter would make something to eat, her mother would say, it is so scrumptious. Even though it was not. I believe it was to make the daughter feel good about herself and give her confidence. She had a little problem about that. Her parents would give her or do anything to build up her confidence. I wondered what the mother really felt on whatever I did or made for the family. Even though my boyfriend and I broke up after 5 years, I still kept in contact and got together with his mother for the next 30 years until she passed away. I saw both sides of her, what she would tell a person in front of their face and what she said once they left. I never challenged her on why she did what she did. This lady was actually more a mother figure and mentor to me than my own parents. I did see a bad side of always praising someone deserved or not and the person being criticized later by someone else. Once, her daughter and I took a cake decorating course. Our final was to bring in a cake, iced and do the decorations/design in class with the teacher there. Well, the daughter's cake, obviously noticeable, that she did not do a "crumb coat". It was speckled with cake crumbs instead of having a final clean, white frosted covering on it. The teacher would make an honest opinion about her cake that she did not do the crumb coat first. I do not know if she did or not, but it did not have a clean coat on the cake. Well, she left the class crying and never came back. She was heartbroken and her mother continued to side with her and told her how beautiful it was, and the teacher was wrong by saying something different. We were not children; we both were 20 years old. I do not know what the happy medium would be. I was on the other side of the coin. My parents would point out what I did wrong, or I could have done better. I guess that is why as an older lady, I see second myself on things I do or worry I did not do it right when others look at my work.

You should check out the very first episode of All in The Family for just a few minutes. You can easily tell Edith's demeanor was way different as she was more demanding. Jean Stapleton who had played Edith got the idea to become the more witty character from a Broadway show she was in. The rest is history, that was when All in The Family took off thanks to her idea. Id found the unaired pilot to All in The Family: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f5Wt1cdpiLSakaw.html

Mike/Meathead does not work or contribute to the family’s expenses cause by Mike’s own admission going to school full time which everything to him and working even part time would be too much on him. To meet the added expense Archie gets a weekend job driving a cab and Gloria gets a part time job in a department store. Gloria getting a job only makes Archie disrespect Mike all the more cause in Archie’s day a real man would never send his wife out work when he was able to himself. Further when Archie’s father lost his job during the Great Depression Archie took it upon himself to drop out of high school to work and support his family sacrificing a possible baseball scholarship to college himself as Archie was a talented ball player in high school. So all the more Archie sees Meathead as a moocher.
