U two are perfect for each other. True & happy love is hard to find. I've lived with my bf about around 8yrs...6 of those yrs were w/ his parents :x but over 2yrs is with me & him & with our 2 yrs old baby girl. We aren't married, but feel like we are. Sorry Christine, I love you but I have to disagree with you about this. There is no commitment in living with a boyfriend/girlfriend. As you already have the idea "testing" in your head, if something happened, you would easily walk away as it's just for "testing". I am pretty sure that the excitement will be there as it's like "marriage" but it is not. I hope you guys can make this work.

***** Geez, no cursing, Violet. All I was trying to say is that she should have taken her time to get to know him/his family/friends better before getting married. I never told her to rush to marriage. That's another disaster. What is the difference between living with your bf/gf, and being married to your spouse? If you just want to try out, and things dont work out, you can back out easily without dealing with paperwork? Let me tell you, easy come, easy go! Marriage is totally different, once you enter a marriage with a right mentality, you will make it work if things happen. You make a vow to your spouse, and you two must live with it, you don't just back out. I am speaking of my experience: 3 years of dating, and have been married for 3.5 years and have a 13 year old boy. Living with your spouse, you don't only deal with him, but with your work, his work, his friends, his family, parties, just to name a few. It's a lot of adjustments. The only thing that will keep you two together in marriage is to have the right attitude to life commitment to one another. Getting to know each other better is what you do during dating, once get married and live with each other you are dealing things TOGETHER, you two are united. That requires a lot of hard work from both parties. Moving in with your gf/bf too early will cause a lot of stress on the relationship. She may not be ready to deal with the adjustments well and might think he is not the one. Anyways, it's been almost a year since she moved in with him or he moved in with her, I hope things work out for them. She is very sweet and I love her personality.

Samantha Plake isn't that the exact reason they SHOULD live together before marriage? your logic doesn't make any sense. and honestly, timing has nothing to do with the maturity of a relationship. people who have been together for several years, decades even, still break up. your personal experience is great, but that's just that, a person experience unique only to you. i think it's inappropriate to give advice on something like this when you don't know the people personally. it's not like your opinion will change anything anyway.

*****: You are right, time does not guarantee a good marriage if you don't have the right attitude (commitment) towards marriage. There are people that have been married for 40 years since they were 19, and of course, there are some that married in their late 40s and get divorced a couple of years later. Once you live with each other as a married coupe, there is an invisible string of life commitment. If you don't understand this part, I do not know how to explain. Talk to those that have been married for a long long time, they will know what it means. The true personality will come out if you get to know them long enough. You know your bff well enough without moving in with her, correct? :) btw, I hear your point, butI will never advise my daughter (if I will have) to do what young girls would do nowadays.

SAEXROME First of all, I never said that my opinion will change anybody or anything. Secondly, there are people that do not understand the difference between dating and marriage. To those people, marriage and living with each other before marriage are the same. The difference is that once things do not work out, they back out easily and are not called "i was once married". There are people that date for several years and are still not ready for marriage, they are obviously not the right one for each other. It's simple just that. Last but not least, I am speaking not only from my personal experience but from my parents' experience and my parents-in-law's experience who have been married for more than 40 years just to name a few. I truly hope that lots of other couples out there will understand what it is once they get married, and someday you will understand it too. Marriage and buying a car are totally different, girl. You can't test marriage. It's very unique.

Samantha Plake "First of all", those are still your personal experiences, which in the end mean nothing and are definitely not fact or something you can use as a source. "Secondly", I get what you're trying to say but it's still smarter to live together first to see if you are compatible. Why get married without seeing first and then live miserably just because of the "sanctity of marriage"? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of marriage if you stay with someone not out of love but out of obligation? And to generalize that people "back out easily" is ridiculous. You don't know them nor their relationship. The concept of marriage is just a social and religious institution, originally like a contract for the exchange of money and property. Nobody is "ready" for marriage, and for different people marriage represents different things. What I'M saying is that you are imposing your personal ideas of what marriage is or what dating is and your PERSONAL EXPERIENCES on others. You are also generalizing all other relationships and marriages, which can't be done because they are all different. Don't insult my intelligence by saying marriage and buying a car are different, as if I wouldn't know. Just because you are married does not make you any more of an expert on it than I.
