The Line that goes Fire on the Mountain Run Boys Run, Devil is in the House of the Rising Sun, Chicken in the Bread Pan Picking Out Dough, Granny Does Dog Bite... Those are the titles of actual Blue Grass songs. This insinuates he played all those songs in the battle. Little known fact: there's actually a sequel to this song. It has a few different guests: Travis Tritt as the Devil, Marty Stuart as Johnny, Johnny Cash as the narrator, Charlie Daniel did the Devil's fiddle performance and the icing on the cake is they had this incredible fiddle player named Mark O'Conner doing Johnny's performance and HOLY SHIT. Lyrically and just in terms of cultural status and importance to country/southern rock the original is obviously best but the fiddle playing in the sequel is next level

The difference in a violin and a fiddle is how it's tuned and played. My grandpa gave his fiddle to my aunt, who has long played it as violin at her church. There is a sequel to this song, which is featured on the Mark O'Connor album "Heroes". The song is called "The Devil Comes Back To Georgia", and features Johnny Cash as the storyteller, with Charlie Daniels and Mark O'Connor on fiddles, and Marty Stuart as Johnny, and Travis Tritt as the Devil.

I was working on the maintenance crew at the Hopkinton State Fair in New Hampshire and helped set up the stage for his performance that night. I got chummy with his lead guitarist Chaz, he invited me to the tour bus to meet Charlie. I sat across the table and visited with Charlie for quite some time in his tour bus. I thanked him for coming to little ole Hopkinton NH to perform, he said "no, son, thank you for having me"!!! What a perfect gentleman and beautiful soul. One of the best experiences of my life...

The main difference between the violin and a fiddle is the height and shape of the bridge. The bridge is the piece that holds the strings off the body of the instrument. The bridge of a violin is higher and rounder because it is meant to play 1-2 notes at a time, whereas a fiddle, being lower and flatter, can be played to produce 1, 2, or even 3 notes at once. Also, most music for violins is at a slower pace to draw out a note but, as you just saw, a fiddle is usually played rather fast. A flatter bridge means you don't have to move your arm up and down quite as far to go from one string to the opposite side.

You could hear the age in his voice, but it just made it more beautiful. For how famous he was, he was a very humble man. After that song during the Standing Ovation, there wasnt a dry eye there including mine. After the show i bought a t-shirt. I asked the fella behind the table if he knew Charlie personally. He said yes and gave me a look like i was gonna ask him to slip him backstage lol. I just said " im a Veteran, tell Charlie thank you for having our back" he smiled and said he would. This preformance was so much more intimate at a smaller venue, way better than a stadium or arena. Charlie also gave alot of attention to his bandmates , many have been with him for decades. Will always love that man. I bet he was there to welcome Toby Keith home and they are on stage singin' to our Fallen Military and the Angels!!

I got to see Charlie in concert at the Boathouse in Norfolk, Virginia, back in the 90's. When he closed the show with this song, he played a special fiddle that was painted sparkly gold.

I grew up with this song and always thought the devil's solo was better, as did a lot of other people. Charlie Daniels eventually got the message as he amped up Johnny's solo late in his career.

Now you HAVE to experience Roy Clark on guitar playing "Malaguena". A country boy playing Spanish guitar. Don't watch his performance on the "Odd Couple" T.V. series as it is shortened to fit the episode. I believe Roy Clark also did a version of "Dueling Banjos" with Buck Trent & Glenn Campbell take your pick. The man could play anything with strings!

Charlie put on a great show as well as the CDB played great music. I remember seeing him in Raliegh and him running from one dide to the other and jumping up to sit on the grand piano. Had a chance to go see him at a high school in eastern NC. Didn't go to study for a physics exam. Neither of the opening acts showed. They played for a little over 4 1/2 hours. The National Anthem was his last oncore of the night.

Close, Johnny Cash been everywhere man. If that isn't rap, don't know what is. Even Snoop Dog did an interview once asked who the original rapper was, and he called out Johnny. I have to agree. Both are in that same category in my opinion.
