It will be fun watching you react to Pink Floyd's side two of meddle: Echoes. But I don't think you are quite ready for it (it is a journey). To pause is almost out of the question. And I hope you have the music volume sorted out by then.

wow, you've been busy. Supertramp was such an underrated 80s group. Another great group is "Squeeze" they were similar in that they had so many hits but were a bit obscure. I would suggest their "greatest hits" album.

I have watched various reactors for a couple years now. Some are trained in music theory and spend their time trying to dissect how the song goes from the I chord to the IV chord or major to minor. That’s all good but I really enjoy Miss Verdy’s take without theory cluttering her listening. She hears the sounds, the instruments, the words and sometimes points them out in ways I’d not heard them despite decades of hearing the songs. And you get great comments like the combination of various instruments giving it a great flavor. She proves knowing theory isn’t required to hear the music in an intelligent way. Don’t ever change.

I was 11 years old when this came out. My older brother and I busted our butts cutting grass and doing odd jobs to earn the money to buy the album. Once we did we about wore out the needle on the turntable in the living rooms listening to it. This and Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon defined our childhood.

My sister won a week-end trip to Paris for two back in 1974 and she decided to take me along. Hotel 'Souffran La Tour' (pardon for missing the exact way it should be written). I was only thirteen/fourteen at the time and when we got hungry I was sent to buy something to eat. I entered a 'boulangerie' and asked for 'French bread'. That's what we called the thin, elongated bread back in Flemish Belgium. The woman behind the counter looked at me like I was speaking Chinese. I didn't realise that every bread made in France was 'French bread'. From that day I know that this elongated bread is called 'une baguette'. A la prochaine.

The "whoosh" sound before the saxophone break in "The Logical Song" is a stage effect whistle, also called a siren. The percussive thing you hear right after is probably a timbale, a Latin-American drum. Also: the digital sound you hear right after he says "Digital" is a recording from a Mattel hand-held football game, from the 70s. The "salt shaker" sound on "Goodbye Stranger" is called a hi-hat, part of the drum set. It's just that on this recording, the treble EQ is so high (from the production and mastering) that the hi-hats indeed sound like salt shakers!

The British band made it here with the help of the French. It is a little funny and befitting that you like Supertramp and both your parents have the albums. When the band were trying to break into the North American market it was Quebec / Montreal where it caught on first. The band acknowledged this by starting a few of their later tours in Montreal at the old Forum. Their first time in North America was >>>> April 6, 1975 Centre Sportif de l'Université, Montreal, QC April 7, 1975 Centre Municipal Des Congres, Quebec City, QC

"The Logical Song" is Philosophical Taoism put to music. As a child, life is wonderful and magical. Then society tries to explain and pigeonhole everything with labels. Our souls are weighed down by "I know" and assumptions. Then becoming enlightened and seeing "The Way", you again see life is wonderful and magical, but in a different and simpler way.

The Album Art and title are very interesting. A rendering of Manhattan with restaurant items. The glass of orange juice denoting the twin towers all while viewed through a plane window. If you reverse the image in the mirror you can see the "U" and "P" form "911" backwards. As I mentioned, the album name points to the time the event took place. If one takes the time to look at all the artwork, you can see the image of planes on the menu the statue of liberty is holding. Too much to be a coincidence.

There has been a few times I heard more recent music from a group and then went back to explore their older stuff, but in general I try to go in chronological order so I can experience the evolution of their sound. Jethro Tull is a great example of a fun chronological journey since they started out with a strong Blues influence before finding more of their own unique sound...and basically kept changing in sometimes obvious, sometimes subtle ways. From their ironically titled first album "This Was" through all of their 70's offerings, there is one gem after another. For Supertramp, Breakfast in America is still a great album but I feel it is slightly more Pop and radio friendly than their earlier Prog classics. I highly recommend going the chronological route for many of the Prog bands (though I will say some of the earliest Pink Floyd does not really appeal to me). If/when you do Alan Parson's Project, please start with their first (and in my opinion best) album "Tales of Mystery and Imagination". As always, love your reactions! Thanks!

Side Two is a treat waiting for you: "Take the Long Way Home" is another great track... and "Lord is it Mine" is a favourite deeper cut. And yes, John Helliwell is a great sax (and clarinet!) player. You should also hear some of their earlier albums - "Crime of the Century" is a classic (also best handled a side at a time), and "Crisis? What Crisis?" is very good. The Logical Song's lyrics extend the themes in Crime of the Century's song "School".

I was away at boarding school when Breakfast In America was released in 1979. The lyrics to ‘The Logical Song’ are especially poignant for me. The title song, ‘Breakfast In America’ is my favourite Supertramp song too! The low pitched brass instruments are both a tuba and trombone. 📯 Everyone used to tease me because at the time, I had a steady girlfriend ― they were so jealous! I eventually went on to meet and marry the woman of my dreams. And finally, it sounded like you said: ‘This is BIRDY channel 🐤 and it’s Brickfest In America.’ 🧱🍽☕🌄

I think there’s a tuba in there too. These guys have such a unique sound…like a blend of Pink Floyd and Elton John with ~ Rush’s singer and some of the most unexpected-but-wonderful sax runs mixed in there. La qualité sonore de cet album est impressionnante! 💙💛 Gone Hollywwod est mon morceau préféré de la face A. 😎 9:21 Encore des castagnettes (comme dans "Rumours" de Fleetwood Mac)

Hello Beautiful Verdy!! Was very fun hanging out with you and fun listening and watching your reactions. Super Tramp is one of my all time favorite bands!! Three of the Men, Rick Davies, Roger Hodgson and John Helliwell all play multiple instruments. Rick plays piano, organ and harmonica. Roger plays piano and all the guitar parts. John plays Sax, Clarinet, trombone and does fill in with organ/synth and back up vocals. Roger sings most of the songs with a high voice. Rick sings the lower growling vocals. The Bass player is world class, and a very good American drummer. Roger Hodgson still tours today. He has a good live from 2007 in France with a full orchestra. Check it out Verdy. Thanks for sharing. Much Love, Light and blessings to you from Michigan usa.

Saw these guys in the mid 70s and although very good live I couldn't stop thinking to myself , "these guys must be pissed at whoever booked this show. They should never have a band like Status Quo open for a band like Supertramp again...ever!"

Enjoying your channel. Genuine, open minded, and fun. When you are ready for something a little jazzier and funky, I recommend Steely Dan. Would start with the album Aja. Another 70s classic.

A little clue about the names of musical instruments in English: A great number of the words for musical instruments come directly from French. :)

Rick Davies's songs are really strongs on this album . Especially Gone Hollywood , Goodbye Stranger and Just nervous wreck . Roger's songs are also brilliant but little bit easy-listening, radio-friendly pop-songs.

@@joelnjgm26 I have modified my original comment. Rick's songs are not " better " because music is subjective. I think Rick's songs are also brilliant despite of the fact that only Goodbye Stranger was a hit. Yes , Oh' darling is also a great song,. It has a great vibe and melody .

Love your choices for reactions! May you consider reacting to early Queen’s studio albums? Queen 2, side 2 is, in my opinion, their best work. I am and will always be a huge Supertamp fan, thanks for reacting to it!!!
