His name is Rob Parissi. The song is a true story. They are a rock band that played a gig with an all black audience and they were a little scared. between sets a black dude came up to them and said "why don't you play some funky music white boy!" and the rest as they say is history. true story!

Wild Cherry was formed in 1970. They have a very funky sound. Most people are shocked to see that this is a white band. The band's name "Wild Cherry" was taken from a box of cough drops.

Good for you ❤️😎Ashley! It is great that you feel the music on an emotional level! We can’t go back to these times, but we can enjoy your reaction to these songs 🎧! It is priceless! ❤️😎 The music of my generation was outstanding! It cannot be duplicated! I love the fact that the young people are rediscovering these songs! That is the beauty of it! The rhythm is unmatched! ❤️ The guitarist was Bryan Bassett and bassist Allen Wentz. The drummer: Ron Beitle Session players: Chuck Berginc, Jack Brndiar (trumpets), Joe Eckert and Rick Singer (saxes) This is a great song! Love it! You can hear the instruments 🎹 throughout this song! It makes you want to get up and move!

Great reaction Ashley! Music (back then) had personality, because the artists had musical and lyrical talent and that was poured into their music and performances. There was an intangible but recognizable quality to music that was was borne from within the artists. Groups had multiple members with talent (vocalists, musicians, or both). Recent music pales in comparison for this reason - at least imho. Love your reactions!

Rob Parissi and Wild Cherry are the best thing to ever come out of mid-Ohio! In 1976 when this came out, we had no idea these guys weren't black until 2 or 3 months after this song came out (I didn't actually catch the Midnight Special on TV when they played). All we knew was it rocked hard, and EVERYONE loved it!😍 Music bridges the generations baby!

I mean in the past they all wanted to make money too, but there was no money in sounding like someone else. It seems too much like a formula now. It's like there are maybe 6 different types of acts...but with different "images".... I cherish the differences...heh heh...

Artists naturally want to express something new and beautiful. However, corporate interest is to find something successful and keep working it till it is exhausted. So in the 70s we saw more of an artist-driven music industry, and the modern one is very corporate-driven. There's still creativity, it's just not as widely carried and supported as before.

Unfortunately a One Hit Wonder. The reason being that this isn't the kind of music they usually played. But it's the one that made coin. It was the beginning of the Disco era and the people at the bar asked if they were going to play that funky (disco) music. They were rockers but they recorded it anyway. 1978
