Bruce Springsteen with Stevie Wonder killed it for me!! I don't care what anyone says they all killed it, but Bruce Springsteen sung it like he was in pain, especially the part where he says, "there's a choice we're making and we're saving our own lives"! I have never seen somebody sing with such passion, so much so until you could see the pain on his face!! Love Bruce Springsteen's voice!! When he first come in with "We are the world, we are the children"! Lord, I used to watch that part over and over again!!!

Cyndi Lauper can really sing. And you should see her now at 70. She looks and sounds exactly the same. Her skin is flawless and I love to listen to her sing. Your mom is right!

Dan and John Belushi (SNL)(The Blues Brothers) had a huge hit Soundtrack album at the time. I believe this was right around the time John died. Everyone there was a superstar and it's amazing how many of them agreed to just be in the chorus without having a solo line. Prince was invited but declined.

It was the American Music Awards on Jan 28, 1985. And the sign he wrote actually said "Check your egos at the door." You were very close.

The 80s was a beautiful time to be in this world. I remember watching that when it came out. So many stars and beautiful voices. It was chilling for sure. ❤️

Turner for the hair, but she disappeared 30 years ago. Same for Midler with an exception for a soundtrack song. Ross basically did the same as far as the charts go, 40 years ago. Warwick was there as an ensemble but otherwise hasn't had a solo hit in about 38 years. This IS people "discovering" these artists. I'm not going to bag on them for not recognizing any of these folks.

Fun fact: When this came out, it was played on radio stations all across the US at the same time! Gives me chills to think about it still today! Flipping through the dial to all kinds of radio stations all playing the same song.

It really just depended on what part of the song they were given to sing. If they had a mellow and understated part then they could not really belt it out like so,e others were able to, or it would not really fit in with the words of their line.

This was at a time in history when I truly believe we ALL were beginning to genuinely come together. It wasn’t forced, and their was no agenda attached to it. Consciousness was think in the air. The collective awareness was blasting off. There was no “I’m better or more important than you” mentality here. Naturally, humans will come together… naturally, as we are all one! When moments like this happen, the powers that be, unfortunately, must throw a wrench into this natural advancement and human love, in order to find a way to divide and conquer. Which in itself is artificial, and an illusion. The illusion that we are apart from one another. Songs, like these, must never be forgotten about. As they are a reminder as to what we all really are, which is one infinite consciousness, connected to one another

Every radio station should play that atleast once a day.Americans love and we want to help. The world needs help and most Americans try to give what they can. Love you all. @@virnan Won't do as well. They tried it for Haiti & failed, not really, just not as special. 1985 was significant in music & without auto tune! Live Aid also happened in 1985.

Watching this in 2021 is depressing. I still believe we can be this good. Maybe if we just stopped watching social media so close and our eyes so fixed on the news - it could be this way once again.

Personally Bob Geldof was the architect and was knighted for his efforts ( Which I find amusing seeing his song "I Don't Like Mondays" was banned in the UK )

Never today would current artists be equal to the greats here. This and the UK Band Aid song Do they know its Christmas (that inspired this) highlighted the sheer musical quality of artists around in the 80s. Live Aid in 85 also showcased this.

She was originally a part of Diana Ross and the Supremes (Motown) and then she had a solo career and also had some duets. She and Michael had a special relationship. Actually, I think the Supremes were the “ladies” in another group first, but I’m not sure about that. She is much more historically important and every bit as talented as Cyndi Lauper, IMO and I ❤️ Cyndi!

Diana was in 'The Supremes' before they broke up and she went solo. During a short regroup for them the act was Known as Diana Ross and The Supremes.

Fun Side note on Springsteen in this video. He had just finished two nights in a row at the carrier dome in Syracuse NY where the shows were about 3 hours long. He jumped on a plane in the morning and flew to Los Angeles, rented a corvette then drove to the studio and parked across the street and was thrilled with the parking spot he got. Everyone else was brought in a Limo.

That’s how we Dirty Jersey folks roll ;)! he’s basically a god in our state :P he made a surprise appearance at a Coldplay concert on June 5th at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ and sang with Chris Martin. No one knew he was going to show up, and when they introduced him, I jumped 10 feet into the air out of my seat and nearly fainted LOL…he sang around 3 or 4 songs, some with Chris and some by himself, and you bet your butt I was scream-singing my head off the entire time. I’m 24 and the woman next to me was probably in her early 50s and we were both going wild. I find it so cool that Bruce is able to bring together multiple generations through our love of his music!

These people are great . They are dying. Diana, Stevie, Billy, Darall, ...damn they are ALL SUPERSTARS

cyndi lauper has an incredible voice..... she made pop songs that didn't show off how great her voice really was AMAZING VOICE

I guess kind of underrated, but also quite popular. He has had about 20 songs on the Hot 100 Billboard charts, 9 of which were in the top 20, and _Footloose_ reached #1, and he scored a couple of Grammys. It does surprise me that more of his songs weren't bigger hits, but to be fair, there's no denying that he was up against some titanic competition from his contemporaries in the heyday.

I believe there's it was a fund raiser for African people who where in a drought I think. awesome song, singers, great cause.

USA For Africa was one of the greatest things to ever happen. It showed how our country could come together in a time of need to help so many. How the song from a movement could touch one's heart and maybe even change their life forever.

i often cry when i hear these 80 s legends sing,, brings back so many memories of how great the 80s was for our country , music, and the world was at this time,, thats why the 80s is referred to as the greatest generation of music in history,,,, i sooo miss these days

Totally agree. But it must be difficult for these reaction video makers to follow any sort of musical chronology like we all did in real time by living through it.

Their will never be that much talent together again.

I just wish that our country could come together like we were back then...

A few folks have noted that “Who’s that ?” was the great Diana Ross, but you may know her as the lead singer for a little group of women called “The Supremes”. Hope you eventually get to hear them and Ms Ross.

@@itscrazyal from what I recall reading at the time, Smokey actually wasn't invited to be a part of it, he just showed up because he'd heard about it through the grapevine. Nobody, not even Quincy Jones, was going to tell the great Smokey Robinson to leave, so he stayed. But all the solo parts had already been planned out in advance, so he just sang background with everyone else.

They recognized the ones they've done reaction videos on, so I commend them for being quick learners (and rememberers!) and hopefully once they've seen and heard them all they'll pass that knowledge along to their children. Although those of us who lived the experience will all be gone in a generation or two, perhaps there's hope that the music will live on.

There were a ton of absolute legends on that stage that didn't even get a solo part like Bette Midler. And they new Michael but did they recognize the rest of the Jackson siblings. I'm starting to feel pretty Old.

Please consider the difference between music today that talks about sweat down a woman's crack versus, Lionel Richie's Stuck on You. We would not have your generation shortchanged. We will bring the old music back, we will. If you ever see a book, "Not Going Home Alone," it was written by a Marine who was my father's friend and a teacher for me in college. Never could finish. Every person here is a legend. This song makes me sad because so many of them have passed away. It's too bad singers of today can't do something like this every year.

WOW!! This song is STILL extremely emotional to watch. It was a HUGE event when this was released. People were clued to their TVs to watch it. Everyone was singing it and naming the artists as they appeared on screen. This was a historic event, so many musical legends in the same place, on the same song and video at the same time. Many of them are gone now or stopped performing. Young people today missed out on some major talent, back in da day you had to know how to SAAANG, not JUST sing!! 😏

Just a fun fact they recorded and filmed that after the American music awards and they did it that way because everyone was in town for the awards show.

Cyndi gives me chills everytime! And Bruce Springsteen! Gosh that voice is rock gold

Right after MJ, when you said who was that, that was Diana Ross. This video, still to this day, features more top-level mega superstars in one song and one video than anything ever recorded before or since. Just take a look at the lineup. After Diana Ross, there was Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, etc. That's also, Huey Lewis, Steve Perry from Journey, and I believe that's actually Quincy Jones of Motown fame directing the whole thing. Talk about a star-studded cast....

You should come back to this sometime. You’ll recognise so many more of the artists. Both of your musical journeys will enhance this for you.
