There's only one person in the vocal harmonies and that's Brittney. She refers to her layering as the "Brittney Choir". In her college days she was a member of an award winning choir, so she knows how it's done.

If nobody has answered the drummer question yet, he is double stroking with both feet. Essentially doing a drum roll on his basses.

Power metal band out of Vancouver. Formed in 2007 by lead singer Brittney Slayes(Hayes) and drummer Scott Buchanan. Guitarist Grant Truesdell does the harsh vocals. Andrew Kingsley on guitar. Nikko Whitworth is the bassist shown here, he left in 2018. Nick Miller is the current bassist. This is the first song from the 4th album ,Apex. The entire album tells a story , and it continues on the 5th record, Abyss. Grant has his own Twitch channel, I think Andrew does too. Brittney also sang a song on the latest from Star One, called Fate of Man. Star One is another project of Dutch musician Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon)

There is an incredible video of Brittany in a karaoke bar in Edenborough after a gig, singing Queensryche's Queen of the Reich. The incredible part is how good she sounds on a crappy cell phone video. You can find it on UTA's YT channel. Highly recommended.

UTA are almost from the old continent - they are Canadians. Lots of good things coming your way. Power Metal with trash sounds about right. Brittney has also been recognized ny Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon and Star One, yes, you've reacted to Ayreon) See this fantastic song with Brittney and Mike Romeo (Symphony X lead guitar) just participated, as did Floor Jansen (Nw) to Arjen Anthony Lucassen's Star One new release, Revel in Time, respectively with the songs: "Fate of Man" and "A Hand on the Clock"

there are two kind of "informal" videos with Britney that you might like: first, after a show in Edinburgh, the band went to a local karaoke bar, and Britney got about half in the bag and did "Queen of the Reich"...the recording was made on a cellphone camera, but still great......another, Britney was on a Skype recording with the lead singer from a Minnesota band "Lords of the Trident"; both consumed a bit of wine, then did the aria "Brindisi" from "La Traviata".....listed as "Britney sings opera?"...they're from Vancouver, British Columbia.....have you reacted to the American band of five siblings, "Liliac"?

Just found your channel, and enjoyed it right away and you get an instant sub from me. UTA's style IS a little hard to pin down. I met them a year ago before their show and they were great. Then my daughter and I went to a little bistro around the corner of the venue to get an early dinner. After we were seated my daughter asked if I saw the table next to us and damn if it wasn't the band themselves. When I spun around to see who it was they recognized me from earlier To be clear, I didn't want go all fan-boy on them and disrupt their dinner but they began our little chat. They were very polite and gracious. Since I know they're heavily into sci-fi/fantasy and are kind of geeky, I said that I meant no disrespect but I mentioned that they're subgenre should be called nerd metal! They laughed and genuinely seemed like that. Anyway, I'm gonna start diving into your catalog very soon. Keep up the good work

Nice note right away.: UtA riffs always deliver what they promise :) This song is more about the instruments and melody. Brittney is just warming up. Try Tonight We Ride or Time Stands Still to hear her let loose :D I think you are right that alternating double kicks is the easier normal way to go as actual drummers have mentioned. Power/Thrash/Death metal from Victoria, Canada. Lead singer Brittney "Slayes" Hayes is legend. All clean vocal layers are from Brittney. Grant Truesdell is the Guitarist with the harsh vocals is awesome, streams on Twitch several times a week. The bass player in this video is no longer with the band. They have gone through a few though they just added their touring drummer to the band officially this year. The red haired guitar god, Andrew Kingsley, also streams on Twitch and is a stand up dude. Scott Buchannan is one of my favourite drummers. Great taste. UtA is pretty much the only band in the rotation that isn't from Japan right now.

Their Pandora description puts it well: “Unleash the Archers deliver a lethal fusion of melodically charged death, thrash, and power metal. Fronted by powerhouse vocalist Brittney Hayes…” They basically combine NWOBHM, classic thrash, and Gothenburg melodeath with really epic sci-fi concepts.

Brittany Slayes is to Power Metal as Floor Jansen is to Symphonic Metal. The kick drum style is called "the heel and toe technique". It's hard to learn but once mastered; it tends to use less energy and can tighten up the kick speed for some.

IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME! AWAKENING (2017) To look up into the night's sky, to see the stars they are changed To know a thousand years or more have passed, and I am the same This mountain hollow that keeps me in a suffocating embrace A prison and a safe haven, it's always been this way Lo, a new master calls me to awakening, I know this one brings the end Far out beyond the darkness I've been living in it's true, a whole new world awaits Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die My path begins with the new dawn; a voice is calling my name It always starts as whispering then manifests to a scream I'm drawn to the creature that wakes me, bound to them by the curse My soul exists only to serve, a covenant of birth Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die Come to me, awakening Follow my voice, come to me Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never Lighting my way in the night To roam; to never die

She sang a Queensryche song called Queen of the Reich and she killed it. The opening scream she belts is about 10 seconds long. Amazing singing. There really is a lot of good metal releases this summer... In addition to this great three-year-old product. Within temptation has a new epic sounding song is the song called "Don't Pray for Me" , Delain has reformed with a brand new beautiful singer and they just let out their 1st single for an upcoming album... It is called "The Quest and the Curse". AND, Unleash The Archers just released a Synth version of a prior song, called FALSEWAVE ... Their original was called False Walls, and is more of a ballad like song. You really get to hear different tonal quality in Brittney's voice.

Their fusion of influences/sub-genres is what instantly pulled me in. They took a little piece of the best from a few of my personal favourite sub's, and made it all come together. I hated slapping so many different labels on them, so I took a page from their playbook and fused all their different "styles/influences" into one. Even though I made it up, for me "Final Boss Metal" sums up their sound perfectly haha. They are from Vancouver, BC. Just a heads up, their 2 latest albums Apex(2017) and Abyss(2020) are concepts connected by one single storyline (20 chapters, 10 per album) about an Immortal being being awoken by an evil woman The Matriarch. By a covenant of birth, the Immortal must do the bidding of whomever awakens him. On the first album, The Matriarch awakens(this song Awakening you just reacted to is chapter 1) him from a 1000 year sleep in his mountain hollow, and orders the Immortal to find her 4 sons, so she can kill them in a blood ritual so she can gain immortality for herself, and covers the Immortal's encounter with each son. Then the Immortal returns back to his mountain to sleep again. On the second album, The Immortal finds himself awoken on spaceship, confused as to why he's there. He ends up teaming up with the grandson of The Matriarch, and heads into battle against The Matriarch and her 4 soulbound sons. Both albums are amazing, and the album Abyss won the Juno's (Canadian music awards) for the best 2020 Hard Rock/Metal album of the year. These albums are best enjoyed in chronological order, but that is unreasonable to ask for with reactions. Unless you feel otherwise haha not holding you back 😂 in random or order, one/some or all, I'm always gonna show up for a UTA reaction haha The most common 2nd reaction is Tonight We Ride(official video). It is not part of the storyline mentioned above, as it's from their 2015 album Time Stands Still. This song Brittney Slayes (singer) really flexes what she can do. With the drummer Scott, he is using a heel/toe technique for double kicking. The norm for most drummers is one stroke/one kick - LRLRLRLRLR... With heel/toe, it allows the drummer to get 2 kicks with one stroke of the foot. If you watch closely, you'll see LLRRLLRRLLRR... 12 kicks for 6 total strokes, 3 per foot.

Hi. I'm glad you reached your Canadian neighbors. Maybe I'm saying a lot of nonsense, but to my non-musician brain, the combination of drums / bass / electric guitar, in metal, often sounds like a truck engine. In this context, at the end of this song it sounds to me like an overheated truck engine that still self-detonates in some of the cylinders, after you cut the ignition :))

Huge UtA fan here. Power/thrash sounds about right. Definitely some vibes from Iron Maiden and Queensryche. They are about writing a great album than trying to write hit songs. Tonight we ride, Abyss, Cleanse the Bloodlines. Ten Thousand against on and Wind that shapes the land are at the top of my Playlist though there are many other great songs as well. Esp on their albums Apex and Abyss that's were I think they really started honing their sound as a band.
