    Wow, this is great , another first for me, I never payed attention to this band but that’s going to change, thank you for that. 🙏I’ve heard Brittney Slayes sing on an Ayreon album, she has a great voice. 👍 Add: I just got lucky and bought a VIP ticket for an Ayreon concert September 2023. Brittney Slayes will be singing at that concert along with a lot of other great singers like Simone from Epica. Because Arjen Lucassen uses so many singers and musicians from all over the world. These concerts are pretty rare and only held in The Netherlands. So I am extremely happy that I have a ticket. Btw I know you all love Floor and I just want to let you know that she announced yesterday that she is diagnosed with breast cancer, and that she is undergoing surgery today. I hope you all will have her in your prayers today. Love you all. 🫶🤘🇳🇱

    Brittney and her husband who is the drummer just had a daughter a few weeks ago. The band is from Vancouver BC and met at University of Victoria west of Vancouver.

    They're Canadian, power metal band from Victoria, BC. Formed in 2007 by lead singer Brittney Slayes (Hayes) and drummer Scott Buchanan. Guitarist Grant Truesdell does the harsh vocals. Guitarist Andrew Kingsley does some cleans. Bassist here is Nikko Whitworth. He left in 2018 and Nick Miller took over. This is the first song on the 4th album, Apex. The entire record tells a story, which is continued on the 5th album, Abyss. Brittney has also sung a song (Fate of Man) on the latest from Star One. Star One being another project of Arjen Lucassen.

    This band is one of the very best along with Nightwish, the song writing is amazing, the most recent album "Abyss" is just straight through melodic amazing and they are also a very positive band. Unleash the Archers also have some of the best videos around, they like to have some fun and get creative "dawn of ages" "faster then light" videos are like crazy fever dreams.

    Over the past 2 years I've found so much great music through KZread. After many years, I've come back to heavy music and it's because of bands like this. Wouldn't it be great if they actually played music like this on the radio? Even Sirius XM doesn't have a channel with these great bands like UTA, Nightwish, Epica, Lovebites and Sabaton. Brittney is an incredible singer and the guys are master musicians. Enjoy!

    10:50 Brittney writes all the lyrics, including the lyrics for the growls. She does not growl. Mainly Grant, and sometimes the other guitarist, Andy, will growl as well. Andy does have some clean vocal sections in a couple of songs. All of the harmonies you hear are proper recorded layers. She makes all the decisions on when/where harmonies will be added, how many layers, and what notes she will use to harmonize with the main vocal track layer. She is a genius with her abilities to create and utilize unique harmonic layers. For example: In the song Soulbound, her opening "wail" is one full bar in length (4 measures). She introduces and sustains an individual note at each measure to finally complete a D6 chord(piano chord name). All notes are in the 5th octave 1 2 3 4 | 1 2 3 4 | 1 2 3 4 | 1 2 3 4 D ------------------------------------------------ F#------------------------------------ B------------------------ The layering work she did in the song Legacy is next level genius. I won't even try breaking that down.. haha They all wear their influences on their sleeves, as you all noticed haha. You can basically hear a fusion of the past 50 years of rock/metal. This is the main reason why I don't like to label them as a Power Metal band, as it is too narrow and confining, and trying to list all the different sub-genres they dabble in is too time consuming. I decided a while back to unofficially coin a new sub-genre of metal that perfectly(for me lmao) encompasses their band name, lyrical content, and wide range of influence in their sound. In my opinion, Final Boss Metal perfectly matches everything this band is about 🤣 Keep in mind that their 2 most recent albums are concepts that tell one continuous story, Awakening is actually chapter 1 of a total of 20 chapters, 10 on each album. Another comment laid out the gist of the plot. They are currently working on a new album with an all new story Hope to see you dive deeper into their catalogue! Subbed from Toronto 🤘🇨🇦

    I love the drum and bass work in this song, and Brittney's vocals are. as always, awesome. The drummers double pedal work is cool as well. To me the lyrics are about a warrior (maybe priest or explorer?) brought out of a long slumber for a new task, maybe a dark one?? Great song, and yet another rabbit hole.     :) Yay - you did it! They are really great. Down to earth, funny, and super talented. :) Brittney has layered her own vocals - she calls the layers the Brittney Choir. This song is part of a concept /story album about an immotal being who is bound to serve a cruel master, reawakening in different times after thousands of years kind of thing. Kind of like a graphic novel in song. Perhaps Abyss next.

    Hey guys! Just to give you a bit of information, Awakening is the first "chapter" of a two-album "story" told over the entirety of the albums Apex and Abyss. Brittney, no matter the "character" she's "playing," layers her voice. If you listen to Soulbound, a track off of the album Abyss, you hear this done really well. The other voice is Grant Truesdell, the rhythm guitarist. He does the screaming "fry"-style vocals. The reason for the change is in the story, he is playing a character called the Matriarch (at least in Awakening). He also does his type of vocals when another "character" is talking, basically. But the whole story is about a man named the Immortal ("Immortal is more than a name!" ~ Abyss), who sleeps in a mountain. Like his name implies, he is immortal, but he is cursed to serve whoever wakes him up. Here, it's a powerful sorcerer/necromancer called the Matriarch, who has awakened him to seek out her four sons for a ritual she is planning, so she can ascend to godhood. I would highly recommend reacting to both the Apex and Abyss albums, in order, to actually know the story. For other songs to react to, if you want to hear more of Brittney, I recommend the following: 1. Cover of Queen of the Reich by Queensryche, in Edinburgh, Scotland. A couple of things: First, this cover is so well done, despite being recorded on crappy equipment and a crappy sound system, that Arjen Lucassen saw this video, and this video is why he asked Brittney to sing on his album Star-One, on the track Fate of Man. Brittney evidently liked singing this song so much that Unleash the Archers did their own cover of the song, and yes, Brittney sang this karaoke track after already doing a full set in Edinburgh that night. 2. Time Stands Still. This song is very old-school, but has some ridiculously high notes from Brittney in it. 3. Tonight We Ride. This video was shot at Burning Man, and looks like a Mad Max video. Brittney, from what I understand, hits an A5 in this song, and does so easily. 4. Northwest Passage. This song was originally sung by Stan Rogers in 1981. It is called "Canada's Second National Anthem," and is basically a metal sea shanty, with both power metal and speed metal. At least one Canadian reactor I've watched has shed tears of joy listening to it. But in Northwest Passage, you get to hear Brittney sing cleanly. And I know most people who listen to Unleash the Archers would agree: Brittney is another once-in-a-lifetime vocalist. She is up there with Floor Jansen of Nightwish fame.     Brittney Slayes and Unleash The Archers is great. I suggest Tonight We Ride. I believe they are mostly inspired by Iron Maiden. However it's been 3 weeks since you reacted to Liliac. I suggest Liliac- Mars (Live in Cumming GA) or Sail Away.

    Chris, you saw the bass players thumb/3-finger rolling right hand technique... jus astounding (to a mere mortal like me) And I love watching Tom's face as he processes those harmonies. * the bass is a headless Ibanez, from before the EHB series, I think * Too bad Animal wasn't around to comment on the drummer heel/toe double bass technique. I know he would appreciate it.

    Mouseman is a creature of a different nature, sometimes brewski has him in slo mo...Someday s I want to turn him into a pretzel,lol then I recall how he untangled the wiring disaster on my vintage ,bass and how he and Tomakazi redesigned my bass cabinets where I can be heard in the next county. That's no joke, we are a couple miles out r on the line..lol. Tom is Brilliant and my composition skills are top notch, we know what we know dude, we aren't all knowing. His name is God.     Lovely reaction guys! Love UTA! Saw them live about a year ago in a small club in Boston. Amazing show. They are like an updated, modern version of an 80's power metal band. Brittney sounds like the daughter of Dio and Bruce Dickerson. The song is the first song from the album Apex. Apex and Abyss are futuristic concept albums telling the story of The Immortal and The Matriarch. The Immortal is a cursed all powerful creature (kind of like a genie) who when awakened must serve the person who awakens them. The Matriarch is an evil female who awakens the Immortal to find her sons and bring them to her so she can kill them in a blood ritual so she can achieve immortality herself. This song is about the Immortal being awakened in his mountain home after sleeping for thousands of years. Brittney is playing the part of the Immortal and Grant (harsh vocals) is playing the part of the Matriarch. Brittney has done track by track explanation videos on Napalm Record for both albums.     Their lyrics for this and the next album are fantasy/sci-fi, the two form a single song cycle, in the mold of the old Rhapsody of Fire. One of the main influences of Andy and Grant, the guitarists. Iron Maiden and Angra are other bands they mention. Lost Horizon and Queensrÿche for Britney. All well worth it after a couple more UTA, like Abyss, Tonight We Ride, Test Your Metal or Northwest Passage. If you want links, say gimme!

    I know I asked for you to react to this song and band. They are amazing! Their albums are concept albums. The only song I know that they fo that isn't is actually a cover of Norhwest Passage. Which was by another Canadian artist Stan Roger's. It is the unofficial Canadian Anthem. The video is pretty fun. It's based on a Rick & Morty cartoon episodes. Which obviously has nothing to do with the song. If you want yo deep dive into them. There are several songs. Tonight We Ride really shows Brittany's high range and stamina. And the video is very Mad Max. I love the song The Abyss. It's video is fun and Sci-fi. If you really want to hear Brittany's overall range for fun, there is Brittany Slays sings Ooera.     Another good band of Canada in Britney just kicks butt. You guys should check out a band from India called Girish and the Chronicles pretty much every video they have sort of reminds me of old school AC/DC. Check them out

    Great band. Have benn follow them for a while and it's always great gutars :) McAlpine? This is more Racer X with Paul Gilbert. I was playing like that myself to had an accident. Still fast, but not that fast anymore. You must see and listen to BEAST IN BLACK - Blind And Frozen. Great guitars and one hell of a singer. They tour with Nightwish .... and have that a few times. I have not find a bad song from them. 3 cd's out and they are from Finland .)

    This band has many great videos too, this would be their most basic one. Dawn of Ages" has them go camping and get picked off by bigfoot one by one, Speed of Light" can only be explained as a weird fever dream.

    This is another band where I just don't skip any of their stuff when it comes up on my playlist, despite having all of their works. I also love Gloryhammer in the similar space of a metal catalogue that tells a story.

    What an Wortld outisde you discovered last few Months, dont ya? UtA is an interesting Band , Albums themed about ongoing Stories, strong symphatic alpha Lady as Lead Vocals, and somehow Head of this Boys, if you dig some of the Interviews. Niche for sure, but really entertainbing to listen to. Go with Crissie, you clearly hear the Influences, mixed with some real fast Metalparts. STay healthy NWA Bavaria North

    @@tomakazi4468 yeah I watch all of your reactions as they drop over here in New Zealand. - Make sure it is the Live acoustic version of How’s the Heart from “planet Rock” - a Lyric breakdown afterwards would be worthwhile as the song is an ode to human empathy and kindness.

    Good song, but not really one of their best, they also do some very creative videos "tonight we ride" "test your metal" "abyss" dawn of ages" and "faster then light" this is one of the best bands around.
