Brothers came straight out of high school with this song and recorded that on one take.
LOVE “Slide”. One of my favorite songs by Slave. You caught the bicycle horn, but you didn’t catch that the other sound you hear is from an actual 10-speed bicycle wheel turning.
Yeah Jammin, right again, Slave was another funk band that was a reckoning force back in the day. This song was a "monster" when the vinyl hit the radio stations and the dance floor.

YES!❤
We was on the dance floor the entire song back in the 70s...this was the jam!
Doing a comparison on the generations which may be unfair a little, but, these artists were really for the most part, right out of high school. The ability to write, actually PLAY the music, sing in their own voices, and most importantly, not copying others made a difference for our range of music. Slave didn't sound like Con Funk Shun, the Bar Kays didn't sound like the Isley Brothers. Every group had their own sound which made the creative competition better with each group.

Exactly not like Today. Today a lot of Artist sound too much ALIKE. Back then they were Very Creative. They All had their own sound.
Yes! High school days in the Land of Funk, Dayton, OH! Yes, they’ve said that is indeed a Schwinn bicycle horn. R. I. P. Mark Adams (bass), Mark Hicks (lead/rhythm guitars), and Danny Webster (vocals, September 2020).
THE JAM ...this is the song that put Slave on the map in 1977....Slave is one of my favorite funk bands of the 70s probally in my top 5....you knew a Slave song just by their unique bass guitar sound....they sound nothing like Parliament at all....best way to describe Slave is that they were New Jack Swing before anyone knew what that was...New Jack fused with rock, funk, r&b...great reaction

One of My FAVS.
THE Funk anthem! The "Hansolor" Mark Adams on bass and Mark "Drac" Hicks on lead guitar! One of the hardest grooves in funk history! Slave has always been among the funk elite! 💯

Come to think of it, Drack on the guitar solo was about the same age as Mark Adams, 17 or 18, ridiculous!
I was 11 years old in 77. My cousin introduced me to this album along with all of the PFunk things that were happening. This was the first song I learned on bass. I was thrilled when I finally got it down after moving the record needle back and forth to try to catch the nuances. I'm so glad your channel is doing this man. Keep up the excellent work. Nobody, I mean nobody is reacting to what you react to, and I wish more would. but we got Just Jammin' bringing back great memories of production and musicianship on the Soul side. Thank you Brother.
Your party wasn't offficial if this wasn't played. This STILL kicks booooootay!!!
This was their very first hit. Pre Steve Arrington of the 80's. Steve Washington was the leader in 77 and he was from my HS in East Orange, NJ.... When Arrington took the lead they blew up on the R&B and Pop charts, but were still FUNKYYYY....
The cover is a recreation of Atlas holding the world. Is significant in body building as that is the trophy for Mr. Universe.
Always amazes me how intricate these songs are but yet they were overlooked back then because of the genre.
This was one of my very favorite songs back in '77.....yes horn is great!
I love these'' Reaction to'' videos..It gives younger folks a chance to hear great music for the first time as folks my age enjoyed it.. If you like the groove on 'Slide' from Slave..you should check out "Sizzling Hot'' from Slave..it will blow your mind

MY BROTHA, THAT CHORUS SAID YOU CAN SLIDE YOUR FINGERS ON IT., LOVE THESE BLACKNIFICENT BROTHAS, THAT WAS A BIG HIT 4 THEM
Yes, that was a bicycle horn in the song. Bike horns were in a lot of (New York?) pop hits in the late 70s.
This was the Jam! There was a dance called "The Slide" that naturally everyone did to this song. Great memories!
The was THE jam and got MAJOR radio play....was a #1 R&B hit! I was a kid when that cut was hot ....I remember we would ride our bikes slow down the street in the neighborhood saying “sliiiiiidddeeee........sliiiidddeee” in unison......great cut!!!
Most of these dudes were teenagers when they made this song. The Fearless Leader Steve Washington help bring this all together to include bringing us Aurra, going on to help write hits for P-Funk. Be sure to check out Stone Jam, Volcano Rupture, Drac is Back, Are you Ready for Love, The Worlds on Hard, to many list.
Slave was my group. Love them
You youngsters HAVE TO GET WITH THE FUNGKH! Slave was HUGE! The cover depicts the STRUGGLE, the weight of the World on our shoulders. Drac on guitar, Mark on THE MONSTER BASS! IT'S about the BASS.
THAT BASS IN CERTAIN PARTS SOUND HE ABOUT TO PLAY LAKESIDE FANTASTIC VOGAGE.
The very definition of funky...man dude, talk about filling up the dance floor. WOW.
I was a black kid in the projects in 1977 when this came out. Knowing that some other black teenagers hit it big was truly inspiring. Get down with the get down J.J. PeeEss : Mark and Drac, rest in power.💯
Steve Arrington and Slave had the 70s and early 80s lit!! They had this one joint called, 'Snap shot' I think U would enjoy probably better than this one.

"Weak In The Knees" is my favorite jam by them. I was reminded when I saw them live at Wingate Park in Brooklyn. Ever since then, "Weak In The Knees" has been in my playlist...
You have uncovered a serious jewel young man.
Yeah! Slide.... Slide... Slide... LOVE IT!!❤️❤️ And you have to do the Slide to it. Great #memories
Definitely. I can also hear the horn section influence of Brass Construction. Slave benefited greatly from the music of the times.
these guys were teenagers when they released this song and album
The album cover is a nod to depictions and statues of the Greek titan/god, Atlas, who was condemned to carry the weight of the world (or the Heavens) on his shoulders. In this instance this very, very ripped brother on the cover represents an Atlas type character and that ball could represent the institution of slavery. Either way, Atlas is the inspiration. Slave was a hard-hitting funk band that had a good run (like every funk band of note, they had a superior bassist and this one had is own signature. He's got memorable bass lines throughout their library. I'm sure Slave has been heavily sampled; certainly their hits that followed this. No great or outstanding lead singer; they flat-out jammed. ANOTHER GEM OF A RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU: PLEASURE (songs, "Glide" and "Thoughts of Old Flames." - Trust.
These boys where in the 10th grade High Schol when they made this album, SERIOUSLY TALENT !!!!
One of my favorite songs of the summer of 1977 I was 8 years old almost 9. Summer of 77 had a lot of great songs.
The instrumental mix called 'Son of Slide', which was on the same LP, was sampled by Tribe Called Quest.
Mark Adams on that bass. Crack on that guitar. Bro they were teenagers when they recorded this song. Think about that..
another jam like this was "Glide" by Pleasure, you gots ta do that one
WOW Just Jammin, you're reacting to so many top r&b funk bands that were and still are my faves. I LOVE SLAVE❣My dad n I yousta groove to this song back in the day. 💃🕺🤩✌
Remember my brother. This song is a true classic from these guys known as Slave 😌👌💯
At the time album covers were very important. Since vinyl was in a 12in x 12in package it was an opportunity for the group to convey a message as to who they were.
Slide is considered classic funk and is included on a lot of funk compilations.
The 80's Slave was totally different than the late 70's Slave.... They had a more raw funky sound in the 70's and more polished sound in the 80's with Steve Arrington.....

Ah yeah!😍 The great Mark Hicks on the lead guitar. RIP And that slide bass playing by Mark Adams! RIP also. Loved this band back in the day! Representing southwest Ohio from the city of Dayton! 👍😊
Snap Shot. One of their best.
This was played at skating rings back in the days. 😊
Drac - one of the best guitar riffs ever !!!!
That was a a mean guitar solo and these guys were only 18 19 years old when they dropped this album. Kids playing some serious funk in Dayton Ohio.
Slave😎yes! Turn 60 today! Bring back some memories. We used to Jam this & still DO!!! That them OHIO boys letting it go! A lot groups came out Ohio
Deep into the funk here. Still holds up just like back in the day.

Steve Arrington was another Dayton, OH legend......
Awwww I just love your channel🔥🔥🔥🔥
You should check out more of the Dayton Funk. Sun, Ohio Players, Lakeside, Heatwave, Zapp, the list goes on. Dayton, Ohio was the Land of Funk in the 70's and 80's. It is the most sampled music there is, thanks to the west coast rappers, they loved their funk
I am James F Jr... Don't quote me but, I would imagine the weight of the sphere on his shoulders is the Struggles we endure in LIFE. I would say that Blacks have endured but that could stir up something. Slide is a combination of Rock, Funk and just feel Good music. Drac the guitarist Rest his Soul and Mark Adams. Drac on of the greatest guitarist of all time. I believe he also Influenced people I would imagine such as Vernon Reid of Living Colour. However, Black guitarist did not stop with Jimi Hendrix. Listen to Mint Condition. Anyway, this Song and Touch of Love, and Screw Your Wig on Tite are my favourite Slave Songs. I am in my 60s and am happy young people get to experience this Great music. Be Bless ALL.
Another great funk group from back in the day. Btw playing Summer Madness on the intro brings back memories of listening to one of the greatest underrated albums of all time.i wore that thing out. Summer Madness was the surprise on that album, the rest of it being super funk, that was Kool and the Gang at their best before they sold out and turned pop. You’ve got to go through that album if you haven’t already.
funky song in my senior year of high school. party anthem for sure. make sure your speakers can handle the funk....
Their first song! Many of them were 16 when they made this...

Teenagers, really amazing, but growing up in the Midwest in 70s there were a lot of young dudes playing like this. Dayton simply had a lock on it. A friend of mine who grew up with these dudes, said it came out of the competition within school bands and neighborhood battle of the bands.
Most of their early albums were a reference to "Slave". The cover with the man holding the baby was a direct reference to the book and movie, "Roots".
First album I ever bought.I was 12 when this came out.I've never been the same since I played it that first time. And I did let my grandmother check this out.She loved it.

Believe or not and take a look at the video of the song. These cats were teenagers at that time. Hands down the leaders in string. Rip Drac

Since you have a thing for Funk Music, I have been playing catch-up on your reactions, I don't recall you ever getting a taste of The Fatback Band. Their songs Backstrokin and Gotta Get My Hands on Some (Money) are as funky as it gets. I may be wrong about you listening previously. I have a lot to catch up on.
Check out their album "Hardness for the World" Also "DRAC IS BACK" Classic Mark Hicks shredding.
Another banger that was always in rotation in our barracks while Deployed Overseas!! "76-78"💽 #MilitaryLife🇺🇲Hooahh!!!
Slave is definitely one of my favorite funk bands of all time! Hailing from the funk capital, Dayton, Ohio, along with The Ohio Players, Roger & The Zapp Band, Heatwave, Lakeside, Sun and Faze-O, they also spawned the subgroup Aurra and Steve Arrington's Hall of Fame! Their hits included, besides "Slide", "Watchin' You" and "Just A Touch of Love", "Stellar Funghk" kzread.info/dash/bejne/d3dsqdiYZ6WbltY.html , "Snapshot" kzread.info/dash/bejne/qpiTuLRrm8SxirQ.html but you should also review Aurra's "Checkin' You Out" kzread.info/dash/bejne/g4igu7prpZDUoKw.html as well as Steve Arrington's "Way Out" kzread.info/dash/bejne/iaqklNJyp5anlaw.html, "Nobody Can Be You" kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zmie1sSpiq-fpJM.html, "Dancin' In The Key of Life" kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIqMu9WKh9m_pZM.html, "Weak At The Knees" (Live! at the Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas): kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4SZmtOih9faaZs.html and "Feels So Real" kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4dkzbVwgqy0lrQ.html. For the record, I always thought the picture on the cover was of a man holding up a globe of the world but I will ask Steve Arrington to be sure!
The horns put this over the top
Some rap samples. Go Ahead In The Rain- A Tribe Called Quest Freeze- Success n Effect Pawns In The Game- Professor Griff
The similarity you mentioned after the first few seconds is THE FUNK sound. Bands from Ohio and elsewhere spread the Funk sound all over the world. You will be funketized soon. 🙂🎼🎶🎵 Someone may have already commented regarding the album cover. I believe it was their depiction of Atlas from Greek mythology.
I'll Make You Weak in The Knees. By Steve Arington one of the members. React to that you will not regret it. One of my favorite records of all time.
Slave in my top 5 bands for sure. On point reaction - nice request.
