You'd be surprised how difficult it is to sing the way she did. Perfect pitch and incredible breath control. She floated those notes and made it seem easy, especially the lower/quieter notes. Trust me - what she did was perfection.

Growing up, I learned that Dionne Warwick sounded good, but didn't sing correctly. I was told there was a difference in having a great voice and using it properly, and if I wanted to hear real singing to listen to Roberta Flack. I've been a fan since 1976, when I was 12!

True, true, true! Lost my beloved husband of 42 yrs recently, this is such an incredible song! We loved Roberta, Barry white, al green, all Motown sounds. Just touch the heart 💗, soul, gives me goosebumps. While the words brought tears 😭 to my eyes, I’m so grateful to have had my soulmate, the time we had together, thank you God. Although, you never get enough time. I’d give all I have, to have him back for a day. I’ll love you till I die, and love you for all eternity....when we will be reunited, ... and it will feel so good ... 🥰. Victoria

This song was featured in the 1971 Clint Eastwood movie Play Misty For Me, it was recorded for her debut album First Take. There were going to redo the song for the movie, but Clint heard the song, and told Roberta not to touch it. The song was a big hit in 1972, spending 6 weeks at #1, and was top single of the year. It also won the Grammy Award for Record and Song of the Year in 1973. Incidentally Roberta won Record of the Year the next year 1974 with Killing Me Softly, which also won song of the year.

I spent 30 + years looking for this song, we did not have internet/google back then so you know how complicated it would be searching for someone or a song, I finally caught up to it in 2002. Love everything about this song and her singing, true piece of art even by today's standard . Thank you and Cheers

I wonder how many millions of babies were made to this song. One of the most beautiful love ballads ever recorded by an incredible vocalist who, herself, was pretty easy on the eyes. Released late '71, early '72. A huge number 1 song on the R&B, adult contemporary, and pop charts. A true "crossover" hit. I was a top 40 radio disc jockey back when this was out. You have to remember this was long before digital audio, so there was no such thing as compact discs or .mp3. Everything was on vinyl. And this song was recorded at such a low level, every pressing of the record was full of surface noise and scratches. It wasn't until the song was re-mastered for release on CD in the late '80s/early '90s that anybody ever heard it without all the noise. What a gorgeous recording. Check out her follow-up recording, "Killing Me Softly." Another timeless classic.
