She got kicked out by her dad for how she dressed and not following house rules. Like most teenage runaways, she gets caught up in prostitution to survive (though the video tones it down and makes it like a dance hall++ dollar a dance and most goes to the pimp/ owner. She and the others get out of there, but then it is back to how does a minor survive on the street? It was a powerful video for the time

@@NikkieTwix when it came out, I was 15 & my youngest aunt had her first son and he was around 9 months old. I was always called on to babysit so I always say he was mine too. One day she came by and picked me up bc she needed help with him while she shopped. “We Belong” came on the radio and she said, “watch this.” After the intro, she started singing and before she got to the second line, he was full on crying huge tears. She was laughing and I was trying to turn the station. She said he cried every time he heard it. So, now that he is in his upper 30’s, I tag him on post on Facebook, just to kid with him. lol

I bought this 45 inch single when it was released back in 1983. I was 16 and worked at Sears in customer service part time after school (and when they actually sold records) with about 5 older white women who basically took me in as their work son. ❤️ I said all that to say when I showed them the record they saw the title and all literally clutched their pearls and said oh my goodness! 😂😂😂 I’m sure they’ve all passed on now but I miss those day and those ladies so much.

They were her parents. I mean, to me, that’s the most logical. She threatened to leave, and her father said “if you do, don’t come back.” That’s a common threat to prevent the person from leaving. She left and her father in the video felt guilty. The boy was presumably her brother.

Sometimes, I find, the song, music, lyrics, voice get lost when experiencing the story in a video, or trying to figure out the story the video is trying to tell. The story a song itself creates for me and the story the video for that song tells can be entirely different. For me, this is one of those cases. That said tho, Pat Benatar rocks. What a powerhouse.

"Hell is for Children" is a very powerful song they wrote after Pat had read an article about child abuse, while she was living in New York City. The article shook her up so bad they wrote the song and then got so much feedback from people, they started a foundation for abused children. It was the "B" side to the single "Love is a Battlefield" and got so much airplay it reached #7. I highly recommend that and "Invincible". Thanks for the reaction to an amazing singer.

She was a trained opera singer but wasn't interested in that style of music. She is definitely a fantastic singer and performer. She experienced many different hardships during her career including sexism and harassment. Dude is like “ima smack the fck out of you” Pat Benetar is like: “not if these jazz hands have anything to say about it!!” My mom had this one lover when I was a kid, this one was from around 2nd grade till 8th, and she freaking loved Pat Benatar. Also Tina Turner. Quintessential 80’s female singers. I’d never seen this video but I’d heard the song a million times. It’s so perfectly 80’s.

Pat Benatar was classically trained for opera, so that's where the vocal range and the high notes come from. Heartbreaker is a really good early 80s rocker that demonstrates her vocal range. Hit Me With Your Best Shot is a great, defiant and sassy song. We Belong is a really good ballad. She doesn't have any bad songs.

I got to see Pat Benatar in concert and she was awesome!!! Jayvee I believe you are long overdue to return for another reaction to the greatest vocalist of my 62 years, ANGELINA JORDAN, whose first single on Republic Records, Million Miles, is dedicated to anyone who has lost a loved one. Certainly a very important song during a pandemic.

Love that the drum machine track was Neil Giraldo learning how to use one and accidentally deleting a bar. And then realising the mistake sounded better than what he had done originally and so he used it instead. It's such a simple guitar line also but Neil has a talent of making it sound so awesome. A great example of palm muting technique. If you are into guitar you always have to listen all the way to the end of Pat Benatar tracks as some of his best riffs are on the outro.

"Love is a Battlefield" the video, stands as a high water mark in music videos. More of a short film than a music video it showed what true film making could create. A perfect snapshot of the era and vibe, the music and the visuals are a beautiful thing to behold. 5 out of 5✨!
