A monopoly exists when there is only one owner of a product or service. Because there is only one person or business that serves that product or service, they have no competition. For example, let's say you need to buy some groceries. In this hypothetical scenario, there is only one grocery store, called Big Grocery, within 100 miles. Clearly, you are going to have to shop at Big Grocery because there is simply nothing else close enough. Because Big Grocery has no competition, they can charge whatever prices they want, and get away with it, because they have a _monopoly_ on the grocery industry in your area. So, in the song, the lyrics say _Pain monopoly,_ referring to the fact that drugs have the monopoly of pain over you. You can't even look for pain elsewhere because it's all wrapped up in the drugs.

You really need to pay a lil more attention to the words, altho just the arraignments of their masterful switches in tone is enough to understand w/o the words. Think, as the music slows and progresses, as if high, then coming down in a crash, screaming for the Master to "Fix Me". Either leave me alone or get me high. At the end, the master (the drug(s)) is laughing, hearing the screams. Their album cover shows the puppet masters with strings to the graves, the graves also represent the lost war heroes ❤ Metallica is and was in a class by themselves before anyone else could think to join. I enjoyed this. Thx

I was about to make that same point. Only a true Metallica fan would know that. The layers of the arrangement as well as the lyrics tell a story.

@Patrick Bateman 73 lol so. Last I heard no one has over dosed on pot. Also a lot of states have already legalized it. Now if they were shooting up, or smoking crack my opinion would be different.
