FIRST TIME HEARING---MADONNA--AMERICAN LIFE---REACTION

Музыка

American Life is the ninth studio album by American singer and songwriter Madonna. It was released on April 21, 2003, by Maverick Records and Warner Bros. Records. The album, produced by Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadzaï, features references to many parts of American culture. The album is a concept album, with themes of the American Dream and materialism. These themes reject the reputation Madonna held in the 1980s, earned by songs such as her worldwide hit "Material Girl" (1985). The album is a folktronica and eurotechno album; as well, it is influenced by acoustic music.

The problem is not Madonna going too far. The problem is us, we tend not to see things as they really are. This video is a masterpiece, raw but real.

The point is that a lot of people were more upset about this video, which isn't real, then they were about the real war that was based on lies.

Although Madonna is still a legend she lost a lot of American fans after this song/video. I think time proved that Madonna was on the right side of history with her message but at the time it was just a little too much for most Americans to handle. It's still a very difficult video to watch. I respect the hell out of her for taking the risks she takes to try and bring awareness to issues even though it comes with consequences.

From a fan perspective, yes she was on the right side but sadly the way she expressed that out wasnt exactly artistic. Both the song and the music video were quite cringy tbh. The general public ignored the rest of her American Life studio album which is tbh a masterpiece.

Love the American Life album.. it's a great mix of personal songs, soul searching, folk and electronica. It wasn't hugely successful at the time but has definitely grown in terms of respect over the years

American Life is my favourite record of hers. Last year when Chiptunes4Autism was compiling their charity record I submitted 2 songs and this one: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ooybxpSemdqsd8o.html was heavily influenced by themes I resonated with in American Life. It's called Analyze This and the whole brief was that we had to use video game sounds for the songs. I wanted my vocal to sound like I was talking over a megaphone in a kind of dystopian progressive chiptune landscape. Obviously I'll never come close to Mirwais but, I love how he works. The second song I submitted was called Game Over and that also made in onto the record. That one is heavy chiptunes sound. I just love the coldness of electronic sounds in American Life juxtaposed with the warm fuzzy guitars especially in songs like Hollywood and I'm So Stupid and Mother And Father. I also love that syncopated beat structure that keeps you constantly engaged. I also love especially how rough the songs sound. Like they were made by some rebel chick in a garage somewhere. In Hollywood when the birds come in you can hear they're looped. Theyre not perfectly faded in. Its so artificial, but that's the point, because Hollywood is artificial. Just the way Madonna and Mirwais use the music as a reflection of theme discussed in the lyrics is high art. Thats I went for in the Game Over song. It sounds lik a Nintendo gameboy and its about overcoming bullying (I'm autistic). In the vocal I was inspired by Nobody Knows Me and I even did that weird garbled baby-voice thing 😂😂😂. I mean who comes up with that? Mirwais is a genius! And Madonna for being brave enough to leave it in. And I mean, the Synth on American Life (the song) literally sounds like a radio scrambler they use in the military and to take that and build a whole song around it is brilliance. I could go on and on about how rich American Life is as a concept record!

My God, Madonna has always a thing to be ahead of her time. She did it twice or probably more. First time with the video of Ghosttown where she predicts the covid-19 and the isolation of human race as it really happened and here the American Life with all the situation that is happening right now in Afghanistan, my god can this woman be better and Intelligent? Love her.

i dont think that she done it all, I think it was her producer. It's not envy, because i'm Madonna fan and I think she's the greatest, But i think its not her credit, at least not alone. The producers and composers are almost always forgotten and shadowed by artist's light. Sorry for bad english, I'm still learning.

Madonna never fear to speak up her mind even if it hurts her career and record sales as this video and song did. But I think it speaks more about peoples ignorance than Madonna and what she does. Kudos to Madonna, love her.

She always expresses herself, she has the biggest balls in this business. America didn't like her criticism about the war in Afghanistan, she portrayed how americans see it as just spectators, they hated her for doing that. She put her career in risk, american radios banned her music, they tried to destroy her once again, but she's undestructible. Long live the one and only Queen of Pop, Her Madgesty!!

Thanks for reacting to this interesting video. I agree with you how it's relevant today with the pull out from Afghanistan and being the 20th anniversary of 9/11 today. . Besides The Dixie Chicks, I don't think there were any other mainstream artists questioning the American wars in the Middle East in 2003.

This was the first video and time Madonna pulled a video. The idea was amazing. The song was not my thing. I do think she should have went with the original video, but, after Erotica and the backlash I guess she had worries.

A couple of things happened. The video was shot before the unlawful US invasion of Iraq. Madonna has always maintained that the video is an anti war video, not pro or against one side or the other. Her official reason why she pulled the video was hence because the war has already started and she doesn't want to cause undue emotional distress on fallen American soldier. Also, there were death threats against her and her children.

  • @MrDirtpaw

Fact. Madonna never officially released this version of the video. She was too scared of the backlash and didn't want the same negative career impacts experienced with her Erotica album. Instead she released a safe alternate version. Watch here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fo2Y16ywZa_fdrA.html
