Kalandra are great. I recommend "The waiting game" The music video is so original and great that you almost forget to listen to the song. "Borders" also has a very beautiful haunting music video and a great song. For more live stuff you should watch their cover of Helvegen, it's very different from the Einer/Aurora version, they make it intimate instead of grand. I'm also fond of "Slow Motion" from Gillahallen and "Lullaby" from Storås. It's fun to see Katrine mixing her own voice in real time on stage. I look forward to see you continue this journey.

Funny you mentioned Aurora vibes. Aurora is my all time favorite but Katrine runs a really close second. Love her voice. Seen Aurora live and hoping Kalandra tours the US in the near future.

Fallen into the Nordic rabbit hole? Katrine and Aurora are both from west coast of Norway, the cities Stavanger and Bergen are not far apart. Eivør is from Faraoe Island, which was populated from same area, and another thing they have in common is colab with the band Wardruna, which made most of the music for TV show Vikings. Eivør, Katrine, Aurora all done a fantastic version of the Wardruna song 'Helvegen'. The lead singer of Wardruna, Einar is also from west coast Norway, very clean water there. :)

I forgot to mention that Kalandra actually put out a new video a week ago. It is called "Bardaginn" (Maybe icelandic for "struggle") I didn't know Katrine spoke icelandic, but the song is in icelandic. I have only watched it once so far, so I haven't internalised it yet, but it sounds great and has another great music video as I have come to expect from them, or rather from "Ragnarok Films" who makes their videos, shoutout to them.

I think its in Old Norse, not Icelandic (although Icelandic is the modern/living language that is the closest to old norse).

I love that this was recommended to you. They're such a good band. I recommend their songs The Waiting Game, Onto the Fire, Naïve, Borders, Slow Motion, Rest Your Soul. They also do a cover of a song called "Helvegen" by Wardruna (that features Aurora). Both versions are great and recommend listening to them too.

Kalandra is one of my favorite bands along with Aurora and Gazpacho. I've seen them twice live, the last time was a month ago, their last concert on their tour you mentioned in this reaction. They are also very nice, and they were so grateful that we came to listen to them (They thanked me so much when I went to get the record signed by them). I have two particular recommendations: Rockettothesky - Grizzly Man (Kalandra cover) (the harmoines in this will blow you away) And this will shock you: Kalandra - Bardaginn (Official Music Video)

Kalandra are amazing ... they started out with 3 I think they have 4 now. I collect all their music. Yes Norway has some amazing bands/performers .... Have you checked out Highasakite yet. They have an amazing concert from their HAIK special !

Kalandra is a girl's name meaning "lovely one" that is a variant of the Greek name Calandra. Yepp , Katrrine(lead singer) is the lovely one!

If you love her voice then you NEED to listen to With You. Then hit their videos - they are cinematic pieces in themselves. And while exploring the artists of Norway have you listened to Sigrid yet? A friend of Auroras and is in one of her documentary videos. I would listen to Dynamite the acoustic version. Also cannot recall if you have reacted to Eivor - falling free. Yes the Norwegian region is just filled with talent!! Thank you!! Enjoying your reactions!!!.

Glad you made this vid too. Kalandra is so underviewed and yes - Katrine Stenbekk is a natural.😊Been quite obsessed with them since finding them a year ago or so. Lyrics to "Brave new World" is built on Aldous Huxleys' novel of the same name. They made a live version of it in a Viking Great Hall (Gildehallen) with a drummer added. - Likewise amazing together with "Slow Motion" made there too. Thx

Hi Ashlena Thanks for your reaction to Kalandra. Great song. After seeing your reaction I looked up the tour information for their UK dates. They our playing in Leeds on Friday and the tickets are only £17 (about $28 Canadian). Took about 5 seconds to decide to buy a ticket. I went to the Leeds gig and they were fantastic! I recommend Blackbriar if you want more ethereal vocals, Zara is great.

I actually requested this song to you in the comments of one of your Aurora videos a while back, LOL I'm glad you found your way to them. :)

I'm glad you did this! Nice reminder to finally look into them more.... I checked this song out after hearing numerous people compare her voice to Aurora's. At first I was like uh huh....sure, we'll see about that. But wow, yeah....there is absolutely a similarity to their voices, and even melodic choices. It's that emotive power mixed with crystalline clarity. Like ice cold water on a bright blue winter morning. :}

Actually AURORA is from Bergen and Katrine is from outside of Stavanger. Both from the West Coast of Norway.

Aurora was born in Stavanger and lived her first year in Sandnes just south of Stavanger, before moving to Os. Katrine grew up in tananger/Sola just south-west of Stavanger and now operate from Oslo. So they were both basically from the same place and now one is in Os, the other in Oslo. That might be the source of confusion.

Also Aurora got/has a flat in Bergen still, I believe, although Os is a minor place a short while outside Bergen, she rarely makes that distinction. So even if she strictly haven't been living that long in Bergen, it's fair to say she's from there.
