The album version of this song was recorded in Princess Leia's bathroom! James was staying with Carrie Fisher while making his debut Back To Bedlam album. Apparently the bathroom had a piano in it (how the other half live!) and the acoustics were perfect.

No it isn't. The lyrics of Goodbye My Lover also speak for themselves. It's literally the raw emotion felt in the aftermath of a breakup with the woman you truly believe was 'the one'.

Really enjoy your reactions. I don’t think there’s a better artist than James Blunt for expressing his emotions. He obviously has experienced what he sings about. Try reacting to his song ‘Monsters’ - another where he stretches your emotions.

This song always hits me.. I miss my ex so much 😢I never wanted a family.. then met the most amazing woman il ever meet had 2 beautiful kids with her she's the most amazingly strong beautiful woman I ever had, with her my love feels more like addiction, she makes me feel like I was worthy of something but life fucked it and it will always be my biggest regret, i had a dream that we were still together before the thing that broke us up and I held her and cried and begged not to go out on that day, and then I wake up and realise its gone 😢 if I could turn back time I would. Don't think il ever really love anyone as much as I do her

This is where I am, except on a different plane - Husband died last year, Kids put me into a nursing home, I was allowed to leave because of my sister, and the 3 Kids still don't speak to me. I don't know why........ my heart is broken like this very song, every day when I wake up...... I hope mine doesn't last 7 years, It's already been 1 year. Thanks for this.

You gotta move on. Find someone new. It is harsh, but others have it better and worse. My grandparents died within 2 weeks of each other. 63 years of marriage. My grandfather got ill, died within a week. My grandmother, right by him the whole time and sleeping, rolls over "Is he dead yet?" We all laughed. He went that night. My grandmother "I can get some rest now." She never woke up. They were the most likely to kill the other, but they also loved each other deeply. If I have a relationship an eighth of their's, I'll be happy.

@@jordan9604 That is just an adorable story, Jordan!! LOL!! That sounds like my grandparents. They loved each other and were married for about 60 years and they were a hoot, too! Sometimes we all wondered how they ever found each other....... :D . But, they loved each other deeply and were truly committed and faithful to each other. That's just about the way our marriage was......... Heck, we're human! All of us, but if there is Love in this world, we had it. Thanks so much for sending this wonderful story to me the time is so appropriate, our anniversary is the 25th and I've been a little down, but you have helped me smile this morning, Jordan😊. What I take from this song is. Regret! He was an army veteran and I assume due to the things he saw the relationship broke down and he’s now contemplating on what could of been but he wasn’t in a state to give it to her at the time. I also read somewhere that he didn’t want to release this song as it was personal to him but they said it would be a hit so he did lol
