Well, yes, we think this IS the best group out there. Between Tim's bass, Austin's high tenor, and Adam's unimaginable range, they can cover 6+ octaves. They have voices for nearly any type of song, Austin's voice is perfect for this song, Rob's is perfect for other songs. Yesterday they dropped their cover of Stand By Me where Austin and Rob share the lead - and you can fully appreciate BOTH voices 'side by side'. With Chance's ability to cover the bass when Tim is singing higher, and fill that baritone area, they truly have 'everything'. It's interesting that you didn't know this was a Percy Sledge song, since you kept calling Austin "Percy". And, yes, Austin had recovered from a breakup of a 5-yr relationship when this was recorded. His new love (and life partner) was in the studio for the filming and he was certainly channeling his deep love for her. As for originals - they have a lot of them. Look into their Dive Bar Saints album, which is mostly originals, although many of them were written for them, and their So Long Dixie album which, except for 2 covers, is songs written or co-written by Tim and Austin. Playing with Fire might be a good next song after this one, or Lonely Girls World, Give me a Sign (ohh!!! Do the trilogy - Give me a Sign, Stargazer Lilies, and MR), So Long Dixie or What's Left of My Heart. they have older originals, too, but my brain isn't up for digging them out right now.

You should check out Percy Sledge. This was his #1 song in 1966. Sledge was a ground-breaking black gospel and R&B singer. Most popular in the 60’s and 70’s. ❤ Is Home Free the best? They’re my fav, but Pentatonix is the most popular. The other group in the big three is VoicePlay. In high school terms, Pentatonix are the popular kids, Voice Play are the theater kids, and Home Free are goofing off in the parking lot. May be that’s why Home Free is my favorite. 😂

@@nancyholter5646 Yes. But all three groups have charisma and great personalities. It’s just what you want to listen to at the time. There is something so pleasing to me about the way these five male voices blend. And at the moment their casual, country style is most appealing.

Austin Brown is the lead on this cover of Percy Sledge. He has so much soul. The other guys do too, and their back up vocals add so many beautiful layers to this classic song. Great reaction!

Yes, Austin nailed it. He gives himself completely here and also plays very well with the cameras. The great harmonies, deep bass and the unbelievably freaking good beatboxing/vocal percussion/vocal sounds finish it all off for me. I think it sounds perfect because of all the different beautiful voices. I grew up performing Percy Sledge which I already loved. Then came Michael Bolton's performance where I couldn't say for sure if it was better or not. But this one from Home Free certainly is.

Yes Home Free is the best out there. My husband thinks I'm crazy because I'll listen to them all night every night. It depends on the song Chance sings lead on Adam's project '"Brother" or the Sea Shanty. Tim has a song out where he sings every part to make it acapella Will you love me tomorrow/ stay He will blow you away with his vocals.

Dear Pzo, by now, you probably realize that this is a cover of an extremely famous, soulful and beautiful by Percy Sledge. It's lovely that you came to it with "fresh ears", so that you weren't making any comparisons. The lead singer here is Austin Brown, and he has a very flexible tenor voice. And he can growl too!

Check out "Cover Me Up". Its another quarantine made video BUT with another member taking the lead. Chance absolutely slays. All of these guys are special and it's absolutely amazing that they found each other and blessed us with this music!! Thanks for your reactions....Keep going down the Home Free rabbit hole. Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. Drummers have often commented on just how realistic his sound is. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.

You know, by now, that I totally agree with you about this being better than Bolton's attempt. With or without the visual. Austin glides through this where Bolton worked hard.

I’m sure if I scrolled I would see others have already told you, but the original was released by Percy Sledge in around 1965-1966. Austin is absolutely killing this rendition, but the other talented men are just as good as this also! For a Tim and Chance lead, try Brothers in Arms if you haven’t already. Chance and Rob absolutely mail Helplessly Hoping. Dive Bar Saints is another of my favorites, you can’t go wrong with anything they sing!

The classic one (in red plaid shirt) is 2015, on the Russell Wolff channel. A must-see for your appreciation of what he brings to the table.

This is a cover. Percy Sledge sang the original in the 1960's. Michael Bolton sang a cover of the song in 1991. Many people think his cover is the original. Austin Brown is singing the lead for this song. Supposedly Tim (the bass) persuaded Austin to sing it. Austin's version is as good or better than the two earlier versions.

I think everything Home Free sings is delightful, and the singer who makes percussion sounds is really cool.

Rob, with the beard and glasses is an Opera singer, Austin, singing lead here is classically trained. Bass is Tim and he sings in 5 plus octaves, Chance the baritone sings in 4 octaves, Adam is the best beatboxer in the US

I always loved the late Percy Sledge's 1966 original (not so much Michael Bolton's cover - I thought it rather over-wrought). The lead on this is Austin Brown - he had a hard break-up of a long time relationship (he wrote "Love Me Like That" about it). His (now) wife was in the studio when this was filmed (she's who he's looking at). Austin wrote the "Stargazer Trilogy" for and about Amberly - it's simply terrific.

I liked Bolton',s version the best until I heard Austin sing the song. Austin IMO sings the song the best of the three major versions of it. This no way detracts from the others and their talents.
