You just watched the KING of country. The video is from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. He made his debut there in 1983 because the original performer (Eddie Rabbitt) got sick and he never looked back. He has performed at the HLS&R about 30 times now and tickets are very hard to come by. The rodeo is in Houston for about 3 weeks every year starting either in February or March (dates differ). Y’all come on down and have a great time with 60,000 - 70,000 of us. Oh - and definitely react to more George Strait because after all these years, he’s still got it.

That footage is from when George sang at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the Astrodome. Those were professional bull and bronch riders. Every year, it's a three week party with rodeo competitions and then a famous entertainer every night. George and his brother were in the amateur rodeo circuit when they were young. George is the best!

I live in San Antonio and have run into "King George" several times over the years, mostly when I lived out in Boerne. He is such a sincere gentleman, humble and kind. He was actually a cowboy before he became a singer. This is definitely a rabbit hole to go down and not be disappointed. Oh and yes that was a fiddle. The difference between a violin and a fiddle is a violin has strings and a fiddle has strangs!

The fret on a fiddle is higher than on a violin. Fret-bar where strings on a stringed instrument is strung. The higher bar makes the fiddle sound on higher notes.

He lost his daughter in her teen years in a car accident a while back. She was killed by a drunk driver. He has a tragic family history. Hes also an actor. He was in a movie called Pure Country

@Sherry Stuer George Strait's daughter was 13 years old when she was killed and it has deeply affected him but he doesn't talk about it publicly because to him that is his private life. He actually recorded a song and dedicated it to his daughter after he lost her in that tragic accident caused by a drunk driver.

He lived down the street from me in San Marcos TX when his daughter was killed. Very sad

Saw George in concert in the 80s. Front row seat. He winks really well!!!❤

This is a great Terry Stafford song that George covered. He has a great voice. And he is a very good team roper. One of the few real cowboys in country. Give Chris LeDoux a listen if you like cowboys. His "Cowboy Up" and "Cadillac Ranch" are good songs. But my favorite of his is "This Cowboy's Hat" and is worth a listen imho. The reason he is considered the king of country goes deeper then just his music folks. First and for most he's a real cowboy and to folks that care that holds its weight in gold to us. Also it's the fact he has stayed true to who he is and again to his fans that is a big deal friends

I was there! I'm a Houston girl! Go to the rodeo every year! It used to be every year at the Astrodome, now they hold it at our football stadium NRG Reliant! Troubadour is a huge hit of his! And it's not a violin but a fiddle!

George is the real deal. A true singing cowboy. He lives on a ranch and ropes calves. I ❤ his music. George IS the King of Country.

Rodeo: A staple among rural America. It brings back the struggles of the 1800's, where Cowboys had to "bust" the bronco's to tame them, and turn them into a "work horse." Driving cattle on the range up to the nearest cattle train. (I.e. I'm from Abilene Kansas, not Texas. Abilene Tx name was taken from Kansas. This was the crossroads for all cattle trains running East to West Coast.)

He played Houston. rodeo last year. As good as he was 20 years when I saw him. Legend.

I love how you all got excited about the bull riding, and rodeo events - very competitive stuff. Houston is the big event, but I love Cheyenne, WY, Rodeo Days. So many great up and coming young rodeo talent! I saw George Strait live in Fort Worth, TX, 3 years ago. He still is as great as ever! You should maybe listen to "You Look So Good in Love", and enjoy! Jamie Foxx did a great version and tribute of it on a George Strait special on CBS in 2009

He has been my all time favorite since I was 12, I'm now 51. Gene Elders played the fiddle. (flute 😉) All the years he has been making music he has stayed true to his roots. He is a genuine Cowboy as well, yall should watch him ride. I was lucky enough to go to one of his rodeos in the 80's. ❤️ Would love to here more Country/Rock🤘🏻, & maybe some older 50's rock.

George Strait is from Pearsall, right outside of my hometown San Antonio. That’s Amarillo By Morning which was a HUGE hit. Here in SATX he’s a HUGE star. A major celebrity. He used to live about 10 miles from my house. He’s my favorite singer. Period.

Just so you know. "Lookin for eight when they pull that gate". The rider on bulls and broncs has to stay on for 8 seconds in order to get a score. When the rider comes off and his hand is still attached to the horse, he isn't trying to hold on. The hand is wrapped in place and the cord didn't let go like it's supposed to. Country bangers Chris Ledoux, try "Cadillac Ranch" (fun song), then for real western music try "Call of the Wild". He was a real rodeo cowboy from Wyoming and had his own ranch too. Was also a major inspiration to the next banger Garth Brooks, try "Ain't Goin' Down ('Til the Sun Comes Up)", and "Friends in Low Places" Darius Rucker, "Wagon Wheel" First popular black country singer from the 60's. Charley Pride "Kiss an Angel Good Morning"
