Vince is a genius, and he finally found his stable muse in Andy. So, so many things to explore here - "Chains of Love" and "Stop" are a must from this era - but there's so much to follow.
Chains of Love is probably Erasure's "signature" song. "The Circus" is a good message song. And my SO particularly likes "I love to hate you" a lot, what's the meaning there?!?!? Always happy to see the love between Jordan and Amber.

This was their first hit in the UK and I've loved them ever since! I still dance to this one around the kitchen when it comes on. I think Jay's right - you should've started with this one. Try 'Oh L'Amour' and 'Stop' next both great tunes. Truly sorry to hear of your recent loss. Sending all the love from the UK.

They're just as good live, even today. Their album "Pop!" has their first 20 great hits on one album- so good. I highly recommend "Always" for your next reaction to Erasure.
ALWAYS loved this Song!! Thank You So much for reacting to this! ❤❤
BLUE SAVANNAH is probably my favorite song by Erasure.
Vince Clark is an absolute music genius. He was the writer and support in the band but also worked on early Depeche Mode and the fantastic Yahoo. Great vid and get well soon!
The guitar is a resonator guitar, which is made a little differently from a regular acoustic guitar since the entire main body, or at least the resonating chamber itself, is made of STEEL instead of wood, so it has a very distinctive sound when played. Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, for example, ALWAYS plays one when he plays acoustic, so their songs always have that very clear, distinctive sound (Romeo & Juliet has to be the very best example of that). You see them a lot in 80s music videos because they look REALLY COOL, too.

Yeah they have a very unique sound. The 2 main makers are National and Dobro they are sometimes also referred to as a dobro. The dobro as well as being played in the normal style can also be played flat in the slide guitar style similar to a lap steel guitar, Gerry Douglas is a great exponent of the slide dobro he used one on the sound track to O Brother Where Art Thou, especially the main song A Man of Constant Sorry. Gerry's work is well worth checking out.

Erasure are the masters of the 3-minute pop song.Vince Clarke and Andy Bell are so creative in many ways lyrically and musically.
It's so great to watch young people enjoy the music I grew up with! Such a wonderful couple and you always bring great joy to my heart. For me and you guys, and thank you for listening to music this brings back such great memories.

I was living in London as a kid 86/87 and I remember this song was played everywhere. On the radio, in the shops, on TV. Love it!
It's high time for Fascination by The Human League! Great bass guitar, synth, drums, singing, and very catchy! 👍👍👍
"Oh L:Amour" needs to be your next Erasure song. Fantastic group! I'm so glad you are enjoying them.
anything Erasure will make me happy, even their sad songs. Have had the privilege to be very close to the stage hearing them live. Both Andy and Vince deliver.
Great fave to bop to on the dancefloor and sing along to in the car. I just love Andy's voice❤ Vince Clark, fantastic Synthpop/NewWave innovator, was previously with early Depeche Mode and Yazoo
Awesome. Next one by Erasure has gotta be Chains of Love. 80s gold. 🔥🏆🎶
This is one of my faves by Erasure. Andy's voice and the synth is so ethereal. My favourite song by them is "Fingers and Thumbs". Give it a listen guys. Cheers, Paul.😀👍📀❤️
Absolutely love Erasure! Fantastic 80's... These are legends of the 80's
Such a vibe and the lyrics are so clever. I'm gonna suggest again (from a year after this was released) Sam Brown and her single Stop. Her voice is so unique. This was a massive hit here in the UK and definitely one for FEMALE FRIDAY.

I love Sam Brown. I had the chance to see her play in the corner of a small bar in Nottingham back in 1990, I was stood literally five feet in front of her and she rocked - her cover of Bad Company's 'Feel Like Makin' Love' was outstanding - it was possibly the most intimate gig I've ever been to.
Vince Clarke is a musical genious and Andy Bell is a great singer, what else can I say...

It's time for y'all to get back to Erasure. You can't go wrong with almost any of their singles between 1986-97. But you REALLY need to watch the hilarious video for their UK#1 cover of "Take a Chance on Me" by ABBA.
The one Erasure song you must react to is "Ship Of Fools", not just an amazing song but the story behind it is heartbreaking and the song tells it so well.
Stop! Is a banger of a dance song. Of course Chains of Love is their biggest hit they had. Vince Clark founded Depeche Mode, then Yaz or YAZOO and finally Erasure. He is the synth wizard behind them all.

The “backing” vocals are just Andy’s harmonies. He has an angelic voice 🎉😮❤ I loved how you both started swaying as soon as it started!
My fav Erasure song! I feel honored that ya'll did it and liked it. Thank You 😁 also still a lot of synth pop you have yet to do 😸 a lot. Oh L'amour should be the next Erasure song and then "Stop' and "Who needs love like that" and "Victim of love"
When Vince Clark was in Depeche Mode it was all synths. Both Depeche and Vince in Erasure eventually went on to include guitars and real drums in their arrangements.
I love them so much, Vince and Andy are amazing. Vince has had a hand in more than one successful group
Erasure is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time! This was their "breakout" song and their first hit in the UK. Went to No 2 over there. You have to do more of their songs to really understand why they are so loved. Oh'Lamour, Stop, Drama and Blue Savannah Song for sure!
I love Erasure. This was the first I song I heard when it came out and fell in love with them. That Yeah Heh was a game changer. It was their 4th attempt to break the UK top 40.
You can't go wrong with any Erasure song, but some of my favorites you may want to react to are Chains of Love, Don't Say Your Love is Killing Me, Always and Star.
“Chorus” is one of my favorites by Erasure!
Erasure put out an album called "Abbaesque" in which they covered ABBA songs. DEFINITELY check it out -- it's awesome. But honestly, you can NEVER go wrong with Erasure! Also, did the video's set look familiar? It's the same on they used for Billy Idol's "Dancing With Myself."
Love this song. Used to play this album on repeat back in the day, ca. 1987
Please do ALL of Erasure, they are simply brilliant. Andy Bells' voice is so bloody strong and wonderful to hear alongside Vince Clarke's melodies. The songs from The Chorus album are the band at their commercial peak...
Definitely their BEST song along with 'Always'. Please do 'Always' :)
Don't say your love is killing me, Always, Blue savana, Oh l'amour. Amazing songs. Very underrated band.
Here’s a few of their great tracks: Who Needs Love Like That / Oh L’Amour / It Doesn’t Have To Be / Hideaway / Victim Of Love / Spiralling (“Orchestral” version) / Chains Of Love / When I Needed You / Blue Savannah / Drama! / Star / Gloria / Piano Song / Chorus / Waiting For The Day / Breath Of Life / Am I Right? / Stop! / Take Me Back / I Love Saturday / Man In The Moon / Always / Run To The Sun / Because You’re So Sweet / Fingers & Thumbs (Cold Summer’s Day) / Stay With Me / Love The Way You Do So / Don’t Say Your Love Is Killing Me / In My Arms/ Boy / Rock Me Gently / How Can I Say? / Freedom / Here I Go Impossible Again / Breathe / Don’t Say You Love Me / All This Time Still Falling Out Of Love / I Bet You’re Mad At Me / Tenderest Moments (Acoustic version) / Sunday Girl / A Whole Lotta Love Run Riot / When I Start (To Break It Down) / Under The Waves / Hey Now (Think I’ve Got A Feeling) / Nerves Of Steel / Tower Of Love / And a must is their Abba cover & video of Take A Chance On Me. (On an EP of four Abba covers, but these weren't their first Abba covers either - they also covered Blondie's Heart Of Glass & Rapture and released a whole album of other covers)
Drama! and “I love Saturday”. Two great songs by Erasure!😃🎶
"Drama!" Should be your next Erasure hit to check out. Huge dance hit.
Erasure has so many great songs, you really can't go wrong with any suggestions from other commenters, but i'd say my favourite is "Always" hauntingly beautiful in every way.
Victim of love is another great song and don't see it getting enough ' love' here😊
Her mother and I used to play this endlessly when my daughter was still in her mum's womb. It was the only song we could dance her to sleep with when she was a baby and she still loves it now she is 33.
Seen them live three times and all three were entertaining and everybody was dancing
This is my favorite Erasure track. And I agree with the comments about the mix of synths with the more organic instrumentation such as the acoustic guitars. Jay, I think you would appreciate “Blue Savannah” based on your comments about you love of synth pop. Amber, I think you would appreciate one of their bigger hits called “Always”. Hope you get to more Erasure sooner than later. Love you guys!
Rock Me Gently is another Erasure classic :-)
Jay & Amber, here’s a fun one for you and the girls! Jackie Wilson “Baby Workout” on Shindig 1965. Great voice and dance moves!!
Erasure , beside their great and distinctive synth pop is such an incredibly cross over band.
Love the joy you guys are showing...erasure reminds me of days in the clubs dancing the stress out the door!!! 😊
Erasure are awesome Am i right Breath of life Chains of love Chorus All need to be heard especially Breath of life Am i right Ship of fools
Ohhh! Erasure has so many good songs!! Ship of Fools, Always, Love to hate you, Oh L'Amour!! So many great songs!
I believe this was their first hit song?...I saw them in concert 4 times and they were awesome EVERY time! Vince Clark is a MASTER song writer. Please review Oh L'amour or Ship of Fools next! :)
Ship of Fools is often overlooked but I love it!
One of my fav vintage Erasure songs comes off one their arguably most popular albums, “The Innocents”. Every song is a hit. Check this one out. Erasure - “Phantom Bride”
Ive loved listening too Erasure since they first hit the scene in the 80s. Stop! never fails to get me in a great mood.
This type of guitar is called a resonator - a steel bodied acoustic with a resonating cone (or 3) inside. Originally designed to give huge volume for live performances, before electric and amplifiers arrived. Very cool.
Chorus is amazing.one of my favourite erasure songs. Got to give it a listen
Love this song, and the emotion expressed in Andy Bell's voice.
One of my favorite songs. First heard it when I was 12 in the fall of 1987 on a interesting cabinet type radio/turntable from the 60's my dad brought home from work that they were going to throw away (wish we had kept it). I was dancing around like the guy in the video when I first heard it. Infectious song. Love the horns and background vocals.
My favorite Erasure songs are their covers of Abba songs on their Abba-Esque album. Their version of Voulez Vous and Take A Chance On Me are so good. The original music is good but Abba-Esque is such a good album.
One of my favourite bands ever and I'm so glad you are discovering them. Stand out songs for me are also 'Stop', 'Chorus' and 'Chains of Love'. Their only UK chart topper was an EP of ABBA songs called 'The Abbaesque EP' including the ABBA songs 'Take A Chance One Me', 'SOS', 'Lay All Your Love On Me' and 'Voulez-Vous', the video to 'Take A Chance On Me' is hilarious and a real tribute to the ABBA ladies 🙂
"I Love To Hate You" or "Oh Lamour" Two more great songs by Erasure....❤
Short haired dude with the guitar is Vincent Clarke, who was the keyboard genius behind the 80s... depeche mode, yazoo, and erasure.
Erasure are THE BEST!!! Guaranteed floor fillers at any disco! 👍👍👍 Stop! is your next stop 😊👍👍👍
Always, In Your Arms, Blue Savannah, Chains Of Love, I Love Saturday, You Surround Me etc.
I've always said this is 'the' perfect pop song. Love 'em!
LOVE ERASURE!!!! Check out "Oh L'Amour," "A Little Respect," and "Ship of Fools"
The 1980s music scene saw the emergence of dance music and new wave. As disco fell out of fashion in the decade's early years, genres such as post-disco, Italo disco, Euro disco and dance-pop became more popular. Erasure shifted the style into dance pop.
Erasure has so many great songs to choose from. One of my personal favorites is Drama! Super catchy, and the video is really good. Thanks for reacting to them! They are my favorite
MORE Depeche Mode please - "Personal Jesus" is a must, but songs like "Blasphemous Rumors", "Master & Servant" are worth a listen
Finally got see them a few years back and they were soooo good. Great reaction thanks
Vince Clarke putting an acoustic guitar over the top is genius Erasure, everyone synth pop guilty pleasure
The man with the chromed guitar is one of the greatest 80's producers, Vince Clark was one of the founders of Depeche Mode and some years later, the mind of Yazoo! He's a New Wave/Synth Pop master!
This is a pretty good song, imo. Good dance tune as well. Very nice 80s song. 💃 🕺
Another great song from an incredible band! They've got so many others in their deep collection too, but I agree with others. Oh L'amour is another must listen.
My absolute favourites from the 80's, have seen them live many times (which is amazing, even now!). Andy's voice is incredible, and Vince is something of a genuis, having been a member of Depeche Mode, and along with Alison Moyet before that was my second favourite group of the 80's with Yazoo! Always on my playlist. Victim of Love/Chorus/Am I right/Blue Savannah Song, all worthy of a listen for a bit of variety from them.
I am so glad you both reacted positively to this track, it's this style of music that fills us 50 somethings with fond memories, like our parents had with the Beatles :)
yup, that's what new wave does....takes the pain and betrayal of life and transforms it into a celebration of life you can survive by dancing through it
Brilliant band and great song. Vince and Andy in synth masterclass 🎹👍🏻 Check out “Ship Of Fools”, “Stop” or “Always” next. Rob Squad You are the best - greetings from Denmark 👍🏻😊🇩🇰
Erasure is one of those great techno/new wave bands from the 80's and early 90's. Andy Bell has an amazing range in his vocals and Vince Clark is a genius. First starting with the band Depeche Mode and being an integral part of the forming of that band and then moving on to eventually form Erasure. As we contend with some that take issue with LGBTQ today, we need to applaud both of these men for being out and living their true selves back then when it was not something people did as easily. You should check out - "STOP!", "Drama"
Love some Erasure
So glad you’re doing this song! This was an early hype song for me as a young teen in 80’s. They’re also amazing in concert! Yess, Amber, the angsty-ness lol was perfect for teens. And Andy Bell coming out to the front of the stage, strutting one side to the left, black corset, black boa whipping to the ground, black leather platforms, singing his heart out and we singing ours back to him 🎉 Feel better, Jay. Oh, we called it New Wave :)
Jay, the silver guitar is a Dobro, a resonator style guitar (same as the National brand guitars). The body is made of hollow chrome plated brass with a resonator, which is a metal cone like metal which amplifies the acoustic sound of the guitar. The some is similar to a speaker cone. These guitars where popular in the 30's and 40's, it was the first attempt to make a "loud guitar" before the electric guitars became popular. Typically used by acoustic blues players of that time. It's an absolutely beautiful instrument and sound
Love you guys. You give great amazing reviews please don't stop
I met the band once. I was flying to Hamburg, Germany to join a new ship. At the airport, they got off the plane just ahead of me. Vince was dressed normally but Andy had on a red latex Baywatch one-piece girl's swim suit, fishnet stockings and red Dr. Maarten boots. Customs didn't even blink an eye. 😁
Always is another good song by erasure
Hi, just subscribed - have watched a few of your vids recently & you've been reminding me of the songs/artists I not heard in too long. Not sure what one of your Erasure songs was but Oh L'Amour or Blue Savannah are good. I remember driving back from Wales to London with some friends & singing along loudly to Erasure most of the way! 😊
I grew up with Erasure, i was a full card carrying metalhead and Erasure was and always has been my guilty pleasure
Seen them live in a small club setting. They whole show was made up of audience requests from their catalogue. It was great!
Fantastic stuff. Erasure have had many hits in the UK. They were the backbone of Pop! in the 80's and 90's. You mentioned not ever seeing an acoustic guitar in a synth pop song. But just wait until you react to their single Drama! and see a Minimoog fall from the sky.
I really enjoyed their Union Street album. The song “Rock Me Gently” always gets to me…
