I heard that cast and crew who work behind the scenes on Conan all came out to watch this as soon as they heard the singer’s voice. Conan had never seen that done before. Everyone was paying attention and not talking. That was powerful.

This performance is pure perfection from beginning to end. Chills and tears every time. Nothing even comes close in my opinion. ❤

Nope. Popular misconception that many have heard. It was actually much worse- he had a bleeding lesion on a vocal cord for which he later underwent surgery. He speaks of this in many interviews.

One reactor mentioned "look at his eyes." David really understood what he was signing and clearly meant it.

Bone chilling and incredible ❤ Paul Simon said his version was a warning of what might be to come and Disturbed’s version is a reaction to no one heeding that warning. . Apparently staff behind the scenes on Conan came running half way through wondering what the hell they were hearing. Amazing 😊

If you dont get chills from this song, you are not breathing.

This is the best version out there in my opinion, I love Simon and Garfunkles too, but the desperation in this one hits in another way. 😢❤

Dave's vocal range is quite impressive. That jump from the low tenor/baritone up to the tenor is sublime... 😘 His intonation when he sings "Hear my words that I might teach you. Take my arms that I might reach you" with the "you" that sounds like "yewwwww" and the last "...whisperrrr in the sound of silence..." those "ooo" and his rhotic "rrrr" so forward in his mouth gives it such a extra fierce feel 😡 p.s: the big drums? They're called timpani drums.

I love this version by Disturbed. I also love their songs "Hold On To The Memories", "The Light", "Indestructible" and "A Reason To Fight". Lots more great songs besides these.

It’s hot here today. Listening to this song I getting the chills. I’m in my 60’s and sort of grew up with S&G’s version. David Draiman killed it.

David was in training as a cantor so yes he has had a classical education. I love this version of this song and I am a 77 year old that doesn’t really like this kind of music. But I do like the covers this band has done. ❤

David's father and grandfather were/are Jewish temple cantors, so it runs in the family.

I was cleaning house one day with some sort of internet rock station on and Disturbed The Sound of Silence came on. I'd never heard of the group, never heard anyone but Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel do it. I grew up in the 60's hearing and loving them. Disturbed's version floored me. I've heard it dozens and dozens of times and still get chills and tears, every single time. Thank you for your reaction, I really enjoyed it. I'll go check out your other reactions.

David Draiman did for Sound of Silence what Johnny Cash did for Hurt... gave those beautiful songs the true voice that was meant for them. The originals were good, but their versions are masterpieces. Not only a delight for the ears, but also perfect vehicles for deep and meaningful lyrics.

Great reaction!! I have read that David was hospitalized the night before due to illness hence reason why he’s sitting on chair entire performance. He has a beautiful voice and the entire band did an amazing job.

This is one on the most incredible cover, his voice makes me tremble, I am a 67 yo grandma, your enthusiasm regarding his talent was palpable...he is a power house!!!

THIS version, is THE BEST I have ever heard! It is best when its just like this performance as far as live and in person with the vocals and tone David has in THIS version. Just awesome!

OMG, the tissues I've 🤧 gone through since I discovered David Draiman and Disturbed performing their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on April 29, 2024. That day I have to believe my spirit 🙏 guides (out of the blue) first led me to a cover video by Dan Vasc singing "Amazing Grace" which was phenomenal 👏 and then to the cover video of Disturbed and David Draiman singing this most POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL 😂rendition of Simon and Garfunkels "The Sound of Silence". I'm 75 and was 15 when they released one of the most popular classic songs of our time during the 60's. It is amazing how relevant it is today. Actually I feel it is even more relevant than ever in so many different ways. I've spent days since listening and seeing, you notice I didn't say viewing, the many channel hosts and each of their reactions and have 😢 almost every time. It's funny that more males have gotten teary-eyed than females, just an observation. Thanks from Diane

Completely agree about the studio video's choices of graphic images. From the opening silence and then the burning keyboard to the ark at the end.....inspired genius. This is a performance we can go back to time and again because it is live and so perfectly done. Goosebumps for sure. Now I am going to make a plug for Phil Collins. His performance of 'In the Air Tonight' live is equal to this in my humble opinion and one you can hear over and over and still be blown away. Everything about it is perfect from the staging and lighting to the sound quality. Perfection.

FYI those are Kettledrums and yes they add soo much. They are a staple with in any symphony orchestra's referred to as a Timpani. One of my favorite percussion instruments of a orchestra. The depth and gravitas that they add to any musical piece really can't be replicated by any other instrument with in the the orchestra. When they are playing you will all ways feel and hear them no matter how many other instruments are playing at the time.

The drum is called a Timpani, also called a kettledrum. It typically has a foot pedal that allows the drummer to change the pitch of the sound. Basically tuning the drum note by note.

I saw them in concert, and did this!!! IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!

Professional singer that still goes on stage after being in hospital the night before and delivering a great performance. So well done 👍🇬🇧

His lead guitarist was playing the piano for this performance. His drummer was playing the Timpani or more commonly known as Kettledrums.

This version was my very first experience with Disturbed's cover of this song and I definitely felt the goosebumps too! If you want to check out yet another cover of the Sound of Silence, Pentatonix has done one as well. I would say theirs falls more in line with Disturbed's take than with the original by Simon & Garfunkel. It's pretty impressive too! If you do choose to react to it, just be sure to do all the things to avoid copyright issues since their record label stays on top of that with reactors. On a side note, don't ever apologize for pausing a video Nick. You are a reactor and as such, that is to be expected. If people want to watch the video uninterrupted, they need to go watch the original and let you and other reactors actually react.

I love the live version with Myles Kennedy too. They are amazing together.

I think I like this more than the original. I've listened to many reactions to it.

I saw this performance as it was shown on the Conan show, having never heard this cover, and not knowing anything about Disturbed. I was just stunned. Now that I've had the chance to watch both this and the official video version a bazillion times, I always recommend that people watch the video first to get the full visual experience and listen to the perfect vocal performance that they got on tape. But then I always insist they come listen to this live one, because to me, it is more intense, more passionate, and even more beautiful than the studio version. Less technically perfect, but somehow better and more vibrant for the imperfections.

I have always enjoyed Simon and Garfunkel. This version by Disturbed is excellent. When I first listened to this, I was totally blown away. I've watched it numerous times since. There is however one other version of this song that you really should check out. Geoff Castellucci has recently done another version of this song. It's totally different than either Garfunkel or Disturbed and well worth watching.

Those are timpani drums or kettle drums. They are a huge part of the drama of this song. Love those drums in it!!! Orchestra also amazing. David is powerful!!! My favorite song now ever.

Great reaction. The look on your face is exactly how i felt the first time i heard this. Gut punched. I grew up hearing the original. Simon Garfunkel came at it from a folk version whereas Disturbed approached it more from an angry standpoint. So impactful.

David on his worst day with the flu will always be 1000x better than anyone else on their best day. Yes he is classically trained. With his range, fry and training as a cantor, he is among THE most talented voices I've ever or will ever hear. 💯

I was privileged to tune into Conan this night. Had never heard of Disturbed, but instantly fell in love! Have since listened to most of their music and my appreciation has only grown exponentially. I do think that the video lends much to their interpretation of Simon’s lyrics in that it has a very positive ending with the music coming together with the lyrics. Loved it! I think I prefer this version just for texture of David’s voice. The video hit differently because of the visuals but is beautiful in its own right.

I've listened to a lot of reviews on this particular song and the interesting thing to me is how everybody hears his voice and the music and the instruments and all of that I have yet to hear anybody talk about the meaning of the song and how important it is to back to feeling or relating to each other as human beings because that's really what the song is about.

Disturbed version is better then oryginal, period. Can't help it, but that is what i feel. David's progression through the song is so meaningful for the lyric. Love it.

This is by far the best cover I've ever heard done. But if you can believe it, there's a version of this that goes to another level. David does this song as a duet with Myles Kennedy (from Alter Bridge) and it's incredible.

Great reaction! There are 2 more fantastic versions of this song out there. One is at a Disturbed concert where Myles Kennedy does the second “Garfunkel” voice. Absolutely epic. And the second is Dan Vasc performing this version as well. I understand that you might not want to keep reacting to this version, but at least enjoy it privately as I know you will appreciate them.

I saw Dan Vasc's cover yesterday and it blew me away.

As I recall, the live performance was the one that Paul SImon commented on.

I’ve heard the Simon and Garfunkel version described as a warning for the future and the Disturbed version (especially this live performance) as the rage at the warning unheeded.

I agree to be in that audience and then this !!! Amazing mind blowing performance.

The video version is almost a nihilistic brutalist thing, this live version hits chill inducing visions of 1984.... A complete masterpiece that is a diametric opposite of the original. Great reaction as always 👍

Paul Simon said the original song was a warning, he said this version is because we didn't heed the warning. He has also said this version is better (probably because of the times).

Geoff Castellucci also did this song. It's very beautiful.

One really good song by Disturbed not played on radio is "Who taught you how to hate" love this song along with many other songs from them. Disturbed is my second favorite band next to Godsmack.

I forgot to mention that David Draiman was really sick for the Conan live performance and I heard he was not pleased with his performance, being the perfectionist that he is I can understand why he felt that way. However, the production as a whole was amazing and his performance was EXCEPTIONAL! I loved it. So POWERFUL and EMOTIONAL! David Draiman.... yikes, this man can sing! From baritone to clear tenor! Notice how he can actually add vibrato to his vocal fry? .... NOT an easy thing to do! As a matter of fact, I've never heard anyone else do it that well imho. Amazing performance! Try "The Light" next Nick... think you'll love it!

He was running fevers and he stated how awful he felt. The show wanted to use auto-tune since he was singing live. He was very upset with them because he said absolutely not! They did it at a part anyway and he was pissed at them. I dont6have a trained enough ear to know where that part is but I'm sure a vocalist could point it out.

This cover, and this performance moves me so much, like I can see it does you! Like I said when you reacted to the MV, I had just discovered it then too. I listened to it so many times, couldn't stop for about a month. It's great to waqtch it with you again! 💜

Shinedown's cover of "Simple Man" is right up there!

David had a lision on his vocalcord because of a heavy cold. He had 50 mg Prednison in his body to get the swelling down and he has a specialist on call in case something would happen with the lision

The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is sad resignation. The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is DAMMIT!

Never heard of Disturbed but love the performance of this song. For a gritty voice check out Slade, Noddy Holder with one of best voices in rock according to Ozzy Osbourne 17 consecutive top 20 hits with 6 No.1’s, three of which went straight in. Cum on feel the Noize, Mama we’er all Crazee now or the slower My oh My are good choices

I, too have watched this performance many times. It's all great but the two moments that sealed it for me were "songs" @4:49 and "Sounds" @7:42. as a 50+ year old I was not a Listener of Disturbed before this. now I am.
