Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti wrote the music for their songs. He told Songfacts "'One Last Breath' is one of my favorite guitar lines, so it's one of my favorite musical compositions for Creed. It's a song that turned out to be one of our biggest songs we ever put out.

Creed one of the most under appreciated bands ever imo. Don’t ever put Creed in any bracket with Nickelback. Creed’s first 3 albums are all brilliant. Packed full of great songs. What if, Are You Ready, Torn, My Own Prison, Say I, Hide, Weathered, Illusion, Wash Away Those Years, Faceless Man, One, Bound & Tied, Young Grow Old, Pity For a Dime, Bullets and that’s not including their monster hits.

@@trishc3099 Every single band member has refuted many times they are not a Christian rock band. In fact, according to Scott Stapp’s book, them being labeled as a Christian rock band drove a rift between Stapp and his band mates ultimately one of the reasons leading to their disbanding. They all have their own beliefs, most obviously Christian, but the band as a whole never intended to be labeled as such.

They’re not a Christian band, but their lyrics have some deep roots in Christian messages. The lyrics are uplifting and deeply spiritual. They were HUGE in the late 90’s. They got so big that they earned a lot of haters, as bands will do when they completely take over a scene (i.e. Limp Bizkit, Nickelback). All 3 bands were very, very good but almost became parodied because of how big they were. Creed never deserved the hate they received.

According to a 1999 piece in The Washington Post: The biblical imagery of singer Scott Stapp's lyrics got Creed typed as Christian rock by early listeners, and the band's denial of any religious objective has unsettled some of its more fervent fans. "We are not a Christian band," Stapp insists on the band's web site. "A Christian band has an agenda to lead others to believe in their specific religious beliefs. We have no agenda!" Bassist Brian Marshall, who named the band, has noted that Stapp uses spiritual imagery as a metaphor in his lyrics.

ONE is my favorite Creed song.. please check it out and possibly do a reaction to it.

In my opinion I think Creed was Alternative. If you like Creed then you seriously need to listen to AlterBridge. When Creed split they 3 remaining guys formed another band and it is AlterBridge! The front man in that band is Myles Kennedy. That man can sing and has such a range it is ridiculous. The lead guitar is Mark Tremonti. He is one of the best guitar players out there in my mind. The entire group of guys is something super human. BUT having said that, they appear to be one of the most humble guys also. Im not sure what Scott Stapp is doing these days but I did love his voice. So angelic but when he knows he has to kick some serious butt, he turns on that deep baritone grit. Incredible. But for sure go check out AlterBridge. You wont be disappointed. Mark Tremonti wrote a song called "In Loving Memory" . It makes me cry because of how beautifully written it is and he wrote it when his mother passed away. I lost my sister to Breast Cancer. My son made me a beautiful video of her and I over the years along with other family. He warned me that I should wait to watch it until I was in a better place. He put "In Loving Memory" as the background for the video. AlterBridge have some of the most beautiful super meaningful songs on every album.

He thought he was headed right, but ended up down the wrong road, he is feeling hopeless and is close to breaking and being buried six feet down seems a lot closer than it should and he is appealing for help and anyone he knew in his past who was good to just hold him down, keep him safe, and prevent him from doing something really bad......but through it all...like Job in the Bible...he has kept his faith and hopes God still has plans for him in his life.............That's my take anyway.

Just fyi, Creed isn't Christian rock, and there are plenty of interviews from the band out there where they flat out say they aren't a Christian rock band. Scott Stapp uses a lot of spiritual references in his lyrics, but that's where it ends. There was a lot of hate for Creed from critics, and they'd toss the Christian label on them as a way of insulting them, and then there were a ton of fans who were Christian who wanted to claim Creed as a Christian band because of Creed's success.

Creed wasn’t really grunge. They were Hard Christian Rock. Very unique and great band. Creed was really good back in their heyday. I was in HS at the time they blew up and everybody loved them. Their live performances were legit. It’s ashame, they didn’t stick together. They could’ve had tons of great records. But, the couple they did, are awesome.

They were never released as Christian rock. Listen to Stapps interviews on why there are some lyrics about faith. It's pretty dark.

Creed is basically a hard rock band, or modern rock band... much like Alter Bridge is now... but the 2 sound different, despite having 3 members of Creed... They debuted in the 90's (1997) just as 90's grunge was falling out of flavor... so, I guess the music industry needed a new selling point... so "post grunge" was used to describe their music. Many thought Creed were a Christian rock band, but that was never the case.

They were never a Christian rock band but the singer would incorporate lyrics with faith based themes.
