The acoustic version yes but his cover of BJ came out on his solo album a couple years before MJ died. Not sure if MJ ever heard it.

Chris was a musical genius! Everyone should listen to all of Chris’s music if they like music. I own all of Chris’s work and I listen to it on a daily basis.

I've never seen MJ mention anything about the cover, but it was recorded on the album Carry On in 2007, so he must have been okay with it at least.

At about the 1:20 mark, when Cornell starys singing the "People always told me" part, he sounds a lot like Kenny Rogers, and pretty much identically to Rogers in a few spots. It's crazy how much range Cornell had, in pitch and timbre, among other out of this world talents.

Highly recommend Rival Sons (Too Bad, Shooting Stars, Jordan) Halestorm with Lzzy Hale lead singer is amazing their cover of Heart's All I Wanna Do is great if you liked Beth Hart style. Lzzy Hale and Amy Lee from Evanescence also do a great track called Break In. Alter Bridge as well lead singer Myles Kennedy you must try Words Darker Than Their Wings (live version!). Bruce Springsten too but he good stuff like Backstreets, Jungleland, The River or anything live performance! His cover of Stayin Alive by Bee Gees was great!

Sometimes Soundgarden would go under the moniker “Nude Dragons”! My favorite live performance is Beyond the Wheel in Seattle 2010, Chris is breathtaking and literally perfection xoxo
