Hey Guys. This is early Chicago when they still had guitarist/singer Terry Kath. That's him playing lead guitar and he's the first singer you hear on this song. The early songs of Chicago were my favorites. Check out anything from their first album "Chicago Transit Authority" and you won't be disappointed. Enjoyed your reactions! Peace.

Oh yeah, Chicago could definitely jam like that for sure. And they had basically three lead singers.

Chicago was a jam band when Terry Kath was alive. After his death, they devolved into a pop ballad band led by Pete Cetera. I saw this group in ‘69, and they rocked! Stick to their first 3 albums, and for a real treat, check out their performance at Tanglewood in ‘70, Terry does a 3 minute solo on 25 or 6 to 4. ✌️❤️🎶

Chicago’s original lineup had three great singers and they all take turns on this song, also the three guys in their horn section are playing different percussion instruments 👍

One of their earliest and best CHICAGO songs which is a cover of a young Steve Winwood song that he performed with his first band. This is a much better full fledged cover.CHICAGO had 3 lead singers originally sometimes changing leads within on each song. Those 3 are Pete Cetera which your friend is familiar with, Robert Lamm, and Terry Kath. In their early days they were known for bluesy rock, jazzy fusion and even softer tunes.Later after Terry died,( he was a world class lead guitar player), Pete Cetera did most of their pop/rock romantic ballads which sold well though not in the elite class that they had established!

CTA was the best version of the group. Later lead singers really took them in some weird directions away from their roots.

Peter Cetera on bass, Terry Kath on guitar, and Robert Lamm on keyboards. Danny Seraphine on drums. Terry was singing first with the deeper voice, Then came in Peter with the higher voice, and than at the end was Danny singing.

Three other tracks from this debut album that you MUST listen to are the opening track, "Introduction" - written by and lead vocals by founding guitarist Terry Kath, "Poem 58", an insanely FUNKY 9-minute track with Terry Kath on guitar (he will MELT YOUR FACE!), Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass, and the killer jam "Liberation" that closes out this double-LP with about 14 minutes of mind-blowing instrumentals! There's the Terry Kath era from 1967-1978 of a jazz/rock/blues band with horns, and then there's the post-Kath era where they fell into being a soft ballad sappy pop band. Much like choosing Coke or Pepsi, people have distinct preferences of which era they like, and this 61-year-old dude is firmly entrenched in the Terry Kath era that I grew up in. Anything after Terry Kath's death in January 1978 is only a pale shell of Chicago.

Danny Seraphine is one of the best drummers out there. The first singer is the guitarist the onecand only Terry Kath. He sang on a lot of the early stuff until his untimely death. A lot of people back then called him the White Ray Charles.

You want more Salsa? Live in Tanglewood You want more cowbell? Live in Tanglewood You want more drums? ... Yup, Tanglewood Glad you did the studio version bc you def hear things a LOT clearer than that show. Unfortunately, Peter's mic was very low on this song, but the awesomeness is everything you already saw in your previous reactions and more. Looking forward to when you get around to it. Thanks Ace! Peace.

I think this tune was originally written by Muddy Waters, an electric blues musician from the late 1950's and early 1960's, from the Chicago area.

This is the first album. Chicago has slways had multiple singers. This is the origin libe up from the 1960s through kate 1970s when singer/guitarist Terry Kath shit himsemf woth a gun he thought wasn't loaded. First singer: Terry Kath - guitars Sevond singer: Peter Cetera - bass (most famous ofvthe three) Third sibger: Robert Lamm - keyboards Drums - Daniel Seraphine The percussion is by the horn section as the song has no horns Walter Parazaider - sax/flute/clarinet Lee Loughnane - trumpet/flugelhorn James Pankow - Trombone - hirn arrangements This is actually a cover of a Spencer Davis Group song originally written and sung by their keyboardist Steve Winwood. This first album is a lot more lije this tgan their later hits. Hit the first track, "Introduction."

"Chicago" is really two bands. The Terry Kath era and the post Terry era. I only listen to the Terry Kath "Chicago". Just so you know, Terry Kath passed away in the late 70's and the band changed in to a sort of "easy listening" or IMO elevator music.
