He put the chill in cool. He toured Australia just as Silk Degrees was breaking. One of the best concerts ever. The whole band was decked out in white, amps were hidden behind white sheets, white backdrops... and the lighting guy had a blank canvas to work with. And Boz and the band blew us away.

My favorite, live version especially. Saw him this year, he can still bring it.
This got tons of airplay back in the '70's. A band I was in last year played this tune, and you could see people's faces light up, "Oh, I remember this one"! Then start groovin'. That's what it's aaalll about, y'all. 😎

Just like Bobby Caldwell's What You Won't do 4 love? A huge R&B feel, but yet he is a white guy. For me, I don't care what color skin you have, but if I can sway 2 it, I'm all for it.......🤩🤪😜
The album Silk Degrees was notorious for its funk, soft rocking, jazzy, mellow vide in the mid-7o's. It spawned 3 singles that kept it on the radio and dance clubs for a solid 2 years. Boz Scaggs also scored later with BREAKDOWN DEAD AHEAD and LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO ME. The song had been used in commercials which is why it's familiar to you. Now I have one for Asia to sing to BJ. Because the sentinel is right and it suits her vocal range. The song is by Gladys Knight and the Pips and it it called, NEITHER ONE OF US. And for that little bit of funk for your soul listen to YOU GOT THE LOVE by Rufus featuring Chaka Khan. Enjoy.
This is one of those songs you never get sick of...fabulous
This is the great, GREAT Jeff Porcaro on drums, one of the most recorded drummers in history. He's the drummer on "Beat It," for crying out loud. Last week was the 30th anniversary of his passing - he died too young at 38. To hear more of him grooving his ass off behind Boz Scaggs, check out "Jojo." It's a song about a pimp in a mink coat that sounds exactly like a pimp in a mink coat out for a stroll.

good to see BJ grooving out to this iconic 70’s song. This song was huge for Boz Scaggs and he went on to have many more hits after Lowdown; a brilliant artist 👌
Where to start ? With Boz Scaggs - you have to go down the rabbit hole. It s 5 decades deep at least. The early beginnings to now in his 70 s. So many love songs. So many soulful jazz songs. Such a cool guy with so much talent surrounding him too. His musicians are all top notch and so are “ his girls “.
Takes me back to a time when it was a good day every day. People were just People and we had a good time. God Bless.
Per Songfacts the song is about a girl who doesn't appreciate what her man gives her. The "dirty lowdown" is the honest truth - what Scaggs is encouraging this poor sap to face. The word "Lowdown" was popular slang meaning a summary of what's going on for real. The first Hot 100 entry with the term in the title came in 1969 with the instrumental "Lowdown Popcorn" by James Brown (#41, 1969). Next came Chicago's song "Lowdown" (#35, 1971.).

One of the coolest and most memorable hits of the 1970’s with incredible musicianship . The vocals are superb as well.
One of my favorite Boz songs. Exceptional voice and the drumming by Jeff Porcaro is masterful. The whole album Silk Degrees is 🔥🔥🔥

Boz is the definition of style.
Boz brought everyone out on the dance floor back in the day.
The most sophisticated fusion of light jazz, soul, R&B and elegant lyrics....and it defined an era of cool that will never be replicated. Almost any Boz Scaggs song just brought the evening into anytime of the day the way he could flood your mind with that vibe.

So much great music back then. The bands were incredible.
You've probably heard this one before guys; it's NEVER been off the radio, never forgotten. It's too good for that. Paiche on keyboards, Porcaro on drums, Hungate on that in-your-face bass - those guys eventually formed a little band called TOTO ("Africa", "Rosanna", etc.) Meanwhile, Boz - who knew good musicians when he heard them - sounds like the smoothest 70s m'fer ever. That dirty Lowdown! You can smell the Brut cologne and see the gold crucifix twinkling in the chest hair all the way from here.

“smoothest 70s m’fer ever” Well-played my friend!
You more than likely heard this in a grocery store. He's been around for a long time. His music is great. All of it pretty much.
Steely Dan was my first high school experience (73-76) and I loved them the moment I heard them, and it made me very picky as a music listener. Then I heard Boz Scaggs, and Fleetwood Mac, and I followed their path of sound at the same time. As a child, my Grandparents played Traditional Slavic music as musicians, which is very unique sounds so I was prepped since birth with a good ear for music. My Parents were from the Big Band era and while in high school - my oldest sister was a singer and married a classical 12-string guitarist from Spain in their band in Spain. I didn't know how blessed I was in the 1970s with this foundation of expansive music, good for the body and soul. I couldn't stand the cheap pop or he-man macho music of the 1980s and had to wait until the 1990s music to enjoy the sounds, rhythm, and atmosphere again.
Puttin' your business in the street. That's awesome. Always loved this one.

I think JoJo is my favorite Boz Scaggs song. It's a little funkier than Lowdown with some kick ass sax in it.

First I'd like to say it was fun watching how much fun BJ was having listening to this song. Boz Scaggs Silk Degrees and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life were two of the biggest albums of 1976. It's easy to see why. Both are fantastic albums from beginning to end.

Everytime this song comes on the radio while I'm driving. I always feel badass.
Just imagine having Boz Scaggs AND Steely Dan on the radio. Music was so damn good. This right here…got to move when it came on! Lido Shuffle is another must.
Boz scaggs is one of the funkiest white men out there. He has got one hell of a voice and this song is absolutely amazing. What a perfect way to end my night.
This is vintage soft rock from 1976. It has a great R&B groove and great back up singers and Boz has a great voice also.
So smooth and makes you want to get your groove on and boogie like Scooby wearing a plaid shirt, sunglasses, and neon orange shorts saying, "Rut Row."
that's Lonnie Shelton on the guitar solo, he also played the solo on "Hello" by Lionel Richie, the guitar on ABC by the Jackson 5 and many many other classics.
This takes me back to my first high school dance. Sure, there was a lot of disco ("Do the Hustle"), but imagine also Aerosmith "Walk This Way" (the original), Earth Wind & Fire "Shining Star", Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody", Stevie Wonder "Sir Duke" and this cool jam! There was a little something for everyone.
Boz Scaggs had such a unique sound! And you two make me want to watch you dance together. You really move to this song so naturally!
So cool and brilliant musicians. It doesn't get better😎👍
A proper feel good song, great tune and easy vocal work makes for a song you couldn't possibly dislike.
You could pick any song from this album, Silk Degrees, and not be disappointed, but Lowdown is, in my opinion, a perfect song. If the groove does not get you moving, check your pulse, and Boz's vocals are just like the album name - silk. I loved seeing you both move and groove to this song - it made it that much more enjoyable!
The phrase is , The Groove, Bozz Scaggs was my introduction to what has been termed as Blue Eyed Soul.
I sold SO many copies of this album at the record shop I worked at in the late '70's.
I love this! these young peeps diggin this stuff where I came from. Asia doesn’t stop smiling.
The song is basically a mix of old R&B and disco. The drums and bass are definitely disco. Louie Shelton has a video on KZread explaining his lead guitar parts.

Biz Scaggs from 70s. Funk and jazz smooth feel!! Love it
This song is a typical style of music from that time. R&B. slow jam with a little Funk, percussion. A group I remember that fits that style, was Jack Mack and the Heart Attack, they had a little more horns throw in ala Tower of Power. One song I remember in particular was ^Wonderful Girl^ done by Jack Mack, same groove as Lowdown.
Hi Asia & BJ, You guys hit the jackpot with this track, because "Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs is such a smooth & soulful "JAM" from the 70's!!! And I'm telling you that when this song first came out and it was played at the clubs & parties, the dance floors got packed with people groovin' to this masterpiece!!! Once again, "Soul" has no color, it is something that you either have it or you don't...Plain & Simple...Mic Drop!!! 🎤
Listen to " look what you've done to me" it's beautiful and the Silk Degrees album is classic.
A few years ago I saw Boz Scaggs live in concert in Los Angeles. He was a very likable performer and the show was great.
Box Skaggs got it going on! At least he did in the 70’s!! Great sound, great groove! Dance music!!!
Check out 'We're All Alone' he and Rita Coolidge both had hits with that song...Frankie Valli even covered it...
I psych people all the time with this. It starts fast and people thinks its an upbeat disco song, then it leads into the verse and you can see them vibe.
Asia and BJ... You liked that drumming in Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgeting"? This is the same drummer (Jeff Porcaro) playing for the Boz in this song. He' was the drummer for the band Toto (in fact the Boz is using 3 Toto band members in this song).
Haven't heard this gem and Boz in a looong time.....thanks for the awesome throwback groove 🕊️💗
This is such a good song; Boz always has a great groove! Check out his song "Georgia." I think you'll like that one, too. BTW, this has been sampled in over 40 songs; may be why it sounds familiar.
FUN FACT: The melodies of the verses were also used in Blackstreet's "Booti Call".
TRUST ME On This Feel Good Smooth Soul Groove Classic,, The Blackbyrds "Walking In Rhythm"...A MUST HEAR.
Nice! Used to cruise around as a teenager in my 1970 Chevelle, Boz Scaggs was one of my favorite 8 tracks!! ( you might be too young to know what an 8 track cassette is? 😉)
This is part of the sound track of my high school and college years. Silk Degrees was one of my favorite albums of all time. Not a bad song on the album.
Great watching you two find that groove. Boz is fantastic.
Ahh, the Rock/Soul/Funk era of the mid 1970s! There's was no better time to be a music fan! We had a song for every emotion you could think of!
NO ONE Should Go Through Their Life Without Hearing This Soul Classic,, Junior Walker & The All Stars "What Does It Take"
This was a real crossover hit when it came out. Honestly, it’s almost more disco than anything else - but was just a stone groove. I can listen to it over and over. And those super hip, lowdown lyrics! Just too cool.

Half of these classic songs that you halfway recognize, it's because they seem to be on continuous loop as background music at every grocery store -- now, that's the lowdown truth!
